Worst 'American Idol' Finalists Ever: #2 -- John Stevens

by Andrew Scott, posted May 25th 2010 1:00PM
John StevensWe're teaming with Vote for the Worst to name the 12 worst 'American Idol' finalists ever. Check back tomorrow to see their pick for number one.

Name:
John Stevens
Season: 3
Worst Performance: 'Crocodile Rock'
Why We Loved to Hate Him: Of all the 'American Idol' contestants, none affected me as personally as John Stevens. Though I hate to admit it, we went to high school together at the time of his meteoric rise (and subsequent fall) on season 3, and six years later, it remains one of the most bizarre experiences of my life.

It all started innocently enough: I had heard through a friend that summer that John had made it to Hollywood, and though my stomach churned a little, I thought very little of it. By that point, John was, to me, simply that really tall, red-headed sophomore who looked a heckuva lot like Conan O'Brien.

I felt the same way when John officially appeared at the New York City auditions and gave a pleasant, albeit weak, rendition of 'The Way You Look Tonight.' Though he seemed like a really nice kid, I assumed that, like most things from Buffalo, NY, John wouldn't make it very far.

'American Idol' Stars: Where Are They Now?

by AOL TV Staff, posted Jan 11th 2008 6:00AM
Call it what you will -- the downfall of pop music or its savior -- there's no denying that 'American Idol' is a fickle god-maker.

Some winners have found great success (hello, Kelly!), some have been dumped by their labels (so sorry, Ruben and Taylor), while some also-rans have gone on to bigger and better things.

We check in on 30 'AI' alums and fill you in on which ones are in trouble with the law, which are still giving it their best shot ... and which have fallen off the radar.

Bad performances on 'American Idol' aren't just limited to the audition room.

In just seven seasons, we've seen over a handful of performances bad enough to shut down any karaoke bar in the country -- everything from Carmen Rasmusen's 'Can't Fight the Moonlight' to Jon Peter Lewis' 'A Little Less Conversation.'

The members of Votefortheworst.com (VFTW) recently narrowed down the performances and compiled a definitive list of the top 20 guiltiest 'Idol' pleasures of them all.

Jennifer Hudson wins Golden Globe for Dreamgirls - BREAKING NEWS

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Jan 15th 2007 11:52PM
DreamgirlsEx-Idol finalist Jennifer Hudson was awarded the 2007 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture during tonight's award show. Even though I don't particularly like film adaptations of stage productions (don't even get me started on how much I hated Rent or The Producers), I did enjoy Dreamgirls and was blown away by Hudson's spectacular performance (both her singing and acting were incredible). She not only holds her own in a film full of major stars -- such as Beyonce Knowles, Eddie Murphy, and Jamie Foxx -- she pretty much steals the show.

The Five: American Idol contestants who wouldn't go away

by Anna Johns, posted Feb 27th 2006 7:21PM
nikki mckibbonThe funny thing about each and every season of American Idol is the contestants with mediocre talent who continue to sail through to the next round. You know what I'm talking about. They're cute and cuddly and have oodles of personality, but they're a little short on the talent category. There's a faction of television-watching, telephone-using Americans out there who insist on keeping these people on the show while other contestants with more talent get the boot.

I have five examples of American Idol contestants who wouldn't go away:

5. Constantine Maroulis. Yeah, I said it. Constantine thought he was sexy and talented. Not an attractive characteristic on a man who only has mediocre looks and talent. Constantine regularly sang out of tune and falsely advertised himself as a rocker. He was in Rent, for crying out loud! A musical! The dude was a poser and I wanted to slap that pout right off his face. I think we all know who the true rocker was last season. (P.S. More proof he's a poser: his new album is Adult Contemporary. Watch out, Clay!)
