Oliva Munn Interviews Her Very Own 'Tiger Mom' (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Apr 27th 2011 12:35PM
Amy Chua's parenting memoir, 'Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mom' is controversial because of Chua's descriptions of her hash disciplinarian techniques, which she attributes to her Chinese upbringing.

'Daily Show' (weekdays, 11 PM ET on Comedy Central) correspondent Olivia Munn was also raised by a Chinese mother. So, during a segment about Chua's book, Munn traveled back to her childhood home to talk to her mom about the strict way she raised her.

Walking into the kitchen, Munn pointed out to her mother a dent in the stainless steel refrigerator.

"Yes, I bang your head. You talk on the phone at all times. You see the dent," Mrs. Munn joked, pointing at dent. "Your head mark."

Jon Stewart Calls Out Media For Relentless Coverage of Donald Trump (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Apr 26th 2011 1:45PM
On 'The Daily Show' (weekdays, 11 PM ET on Comedy Central), John Stewart called the media for paying too much attention to the bizarre political posturing of Donald Trump.

"They have to put Donald on every show, spewing the craziest s--t he can think of, because Donald's poll numbers are high, mostly because they keep putting on television to spew the craziest s--t he can think of," Steward explained.

Jon Stewart Labels Mitt Romney 'Captain Buzzkill' (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Apr 13th 2011 4:35AM
'Daily' Calls Mitt Romney 'Captain Buzzkill''The Daily Show' (weekdays, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) has been having a lot of fun over the last year with some of the more eccentric potential Republican candidates for president, such as Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann and now Donald Trump.

However, on Tuesday, Jon Stewart got some news that sent a chill down his comedic spine: Mitt Romney has launched an exploratory committee into a presidential run.

"No, not Captain Buzzkill!" Stewart shrieked. "Not the guy who looks like everyone who ever fired your dad. He's gonna suck all the fun right out of this crazy thing!"

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Apr 12th 2011 8:45AM
Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters on 'Daily Show'The Foo Fighters performed on 'The Daily Show' (weekdays, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) as part of what Jon Stewart called "our latest installment of our band-a-year series." Between the songs "Bridge Burning" and "Arlandria" from the band's new album 'Wasting Light,' Stewart engaged Foo Fighters' front man Dave Grohl in some lighthearted banter about what was going on backstage.

"I've known you for a long time. You've been a rock star the whole long time. But, dude, not to blow the image -- backstage, it's like romper room back there. There must by 28 little kids," Stewart said.

Preview: 'The Comedy Awards' on Comedy Central

by Joel Keller, posted Apr 10th 2011 10:30AM
Stpehen Colbert and Jon Stewart on 'The Comedy Awards'
People in the entertainment industry love to give each other awards... except for the folks in the world of comedy.

There could be a couple of reasons for it: Most comedians would rather make fun of awards shows than be a part of one. And with comedians being a generally self-deprecating group, self-back-patting has never been in their DNA. It's probably why there hasn't been any major comedy awards show since 2001, when the American Comedy Awards went kaput after 14 years.

But Comedy Central knows comedy should be rewarded, which is why it's giving out the first annual Comedy Awards tonight at 9PM ET (it airs on Comedy Central, Spike TV, CMT, Logo, TV Land, VH1 and Nick at Nite). Because the ceremony was taped on March 26, there are plenty of live blogs out there to tell you what to expect. Some highlights, and preview clips, after the jump.

Jon Stewart Spoofs Glenn Beck's Fox Departure (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Apr 8th 2011 6:15AM
Jon Stewart as Glenn Beck on 'The Daily show'Jon Stewart whipped out the glasses and the chalkboard, embraced the weird camera angles, and spent the first 20 minutes of 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) reporting on Glenn Beck's departure from Fox News as if he was Glenn Beck.

Although the spoof was often longer in ambition than execution, Stewart did an excellent job of parodying Beckian logic in a nifty riff on the Nielsen ratings.

"People will tell you Glenn was fired because of plummeting ratings: 30 percent of his viewers have abandoned him, his audience's medium age is now dead of natural causes," Stewart-as-Beck-commenting-on-Beck hysterically explained.

Jon Stewart Proposes Geraldo Rivera Assume Leadership of Libyan Rebels (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Apr 7th 2011 7:30AM
On 'The Daily Show' (weekdays, 11 PM ET on Comedy Central) Jon Stewart played some clips of the reporting Geraldo Rivera has been doing over in Libya for Fox News.

In the clips, Geraldo dodges bullets, strikes poses, and at one point seems to be barking orders at the rebel fighters. The last clip Stewart played was one of Geraldo reporting that the anti-Qaddafi rebels in Libya are so poorly trained that they would be a grave danger to themselves if they were given more powerful weapons.

"If only someone would come forth, take control of this control of this ragtag bunch," Stewart said, playing off what Geraldo had reported. "A charismatic brave somewhat narcissistic figure who already posses the confidence and the facial hair configuration of an old world guerrilla force leader."

Jon Stewart Mocks Democrats' Plan to Label Republicans 'Extreme' (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Apr 6th 2011 5:00AM
'The Daily Show'Last week, an open mic caught Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer explaining that he had been instructed by his caucus to always use the word "extreme" when referring to Republicans.

On 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), John Stewart played a clip of Schumer's live-mic gaffe, and then followed it up with a clip of the senator actually using the word "extreme" when talking about the GOP in a televised speech.

Stewart was not impressed with either the Democrats' (meant-to-be) secret strategy, or how Schumer applied it. "Democrats are just weak," Stewart argued, after watching the clips, and looking exasperated.

Billy Crystal on 'The Daily Show'Billy Crystal was on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), where he told a story about the filming of Meg Ryan's famous orgasm scene in the movie 'When Harry Met Sally.'

Apparently, Ryan was nervous about making such personal noises in front of a bunch of crew and extras she didn't know. So director Rob Reiner, "a big bear of a man" as Crystal described him, decided to show her how to do it.

"So Reiner proceeds to have an orgasm that Mighty Joe Young would have," Crystal explained to Jon Stewart. "Oh it's huge, he's pounding the table. The little spice balls are flying off pickles."

Norm McDonald on 'The Daily Show'Watching the uprising in the Middle East from afar has stirred up a revolutionary spirit in Norm MacDonald. As he told 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), the comedian now wants to do something about his home country of Canada still being under Queen Elizabeth II's auspices.

"I'm from Canada, we've got a queen, she lives in England," McDonald told Jon Stewart. "I swear to God I can get two or three dozen buddies of mine, we can go over to Buckingham Palace, take over."

"I would totally do that with you," Stewart offered.

Jake Gyllenhaal on 'The Daily Show'At the end of Jake Gyllenhaal's interview on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy central) Jon Stewart asked him, "Are we going to hang out and play basketball at some point soon?"

"No we're not because you never called me back," Gyllenhaal responded, and then reminded Stewart that the last time he was on the show Stewart made the same basketball offer, but apparently didn't follow through.

"I was actually on the Conan O'Brien show the other day and I likened him to the Abraham Lincoln of talk show hosts," Gyllenhaal continued. "You, I liken to the Spud Webb of talk show hosts. So, yes, I would love actually to play basketball with you."

Jon Stewart: The US is to NATO as Beyonce is to Sasha Fierce (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Mar 30th 2011 6:40AM
'The Daily Show'Jon Stewart has been skeptical of the United State's involvement in military action against the Libyan government ever since Operation Odyssey Dawn was launched about a week ago.

President Obama's speech Monday didn't do much to answer Stewart's questions about the mission, and, on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), Stewart mocked Obama's claim that the U.S. is de-escalating its role in the conflict by turning over authority to NATO.

"So there is an exit strategy. We turned over the mission to NATO! Man, I feel bad for whoever the sucker is that's the main driving force financially and weapon-wise in that organization, because those guys are ... wait a minute. We're NATO!"

'The Daily Show'On Friday, The New York Times reported that General Electric paid no U.S. federal income tax in 2010, despite earning $14.2 billion in profits.

While the article got a ton of play across the media, Jon Stewart and 'The Daily Show's (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) crack team of video-watchers found that there was one particular media organization that completely ignored this stunning revelation on the day the news broke.

And that would be NBC. Which is owned by ... GE.

Jon Stewart to Bret Baier: Much Like 'Three's Company,' Fox News' High Ratings Don't Equal Quality (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Mar 25th 2011 7:20AM
Bret Baier on 'The Daily Show'Bret Baier, the host of Fox New's six o'clock show 'Special Report,' stopped by 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11 PM ET on Comedy Central.) At the beginning of the interview Jon Stewart suggested to Baier that he was a "human shield" because he is the guy Fox News uses to argue that they have good journalists, not just partisan personalities.

Baier rejected that characterization, and this prompted a long disagreement between them about the nature of Fox News. Toward the end of their debate they had this exchange, which summed up each of their positions:

"Listen, on the opinion shows there's no doubt on Fox they come from the right," Baier explained. "But if you watch my show, Shepard Smith's show ... "

Richard Lewis Can't Complete a Single Joke in 5 Minutes on 'The Daily Show' (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Mar 24th 2011 6:20AM
Richard Lewis on 'The Daily Show'Comedian Richard Lewis was on 'The Daily Show With Jon Stewart' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), where he spent his five-minute segment starting and stopping anecdotes and jokes, and never really getting to any point or punchline.

As the segment came to a close, Lewis attempted to tell a religious joke, but kept getting distracted by tangentially related things that were popping into his mind.

"Complete one thought," Stewart finally said. "Just one. You had five minutes. You can get one. Just one. Just follow one through."
