"A Very Special American Idol" charity benefit returns

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 12th 2007 10:24AM

Idol Gives Back 2007It's a no-brainer really. Last year's American Idol charity-special, "Idol Gives Back," racked up killer ratings for FOX and raised $75 million for charities in the U.S. and Africa. And more importantly it brought in killer ratings for FOX (did I say that already)! Of course they're going to do it again this year, and now according to Variety, they've set the date for "Idol Gives Back 2008." April 9, 8/7c the two-hour star-studded extravaganza will once again bombard our retinas.

Is it better for Blake that he didn't win Idol?

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted May 28th 2007 3:03PM
Blake LewisI was never a Blake fan, but as the end of American Idol season six drew near, I came to admire his attitude even more than his singing or beatboxing skills. I like that Blake never talked back to the judges in a snotty, defensive manner. I like that he took his lumps with a smile and a shrug. I like that he didn't cry "foul" when forced to sing the generic "This Is My Now."

In the age of reality TV where everyone wants to win at any cost, it was nice to witness a guy who actually seemed to be enjoying the experience itself.

In a conference call with reporters, Blake said, "I honestly didn't care one bit [about] winning or losing, because I call myself a winner just by getting into the top 10."

Odds are on Jordin to win Idol

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted May 14th 2007 3:23PM
Jordin SparksWe're down to three remaining challengers in this year's American Idol, and it looks like it's going to be a very tight race for second place. But according to odds makers, first place is pretty much a lock for Jordin Sparks -- the odds-on favorite to win this year's Idol.

Odds makers are also predicting a final showdown between Jordin and Blake, leaving Melinda as a third place finisher. But we all know that anything can happen - and it ain't over until Seacrest is out.

Jordin sparkles, but J-Lo is a fanjaya

by Elizabeth Chan, posted Apr 4th 2007 2:20PM
Jordin Sparks is a better singer than SanjayaJordin Sparks and Sanjaya Malakar have a lot in common. Both are seventeen, have great hair and are fighting for the top spot on American Idol. However, the similarities end there. Jordin's last performance on American Idol makes it quite clear that this girl can run laps around Sanjaya in the talent department.

But do "Fanjordins" exist? Probably not in the way that "Fanjayas" do. Where exactly are these people? Apparently not in the Ellen audience, who resoundingly booed Sanjaya after a swift mention by the host herself. However, the widespread sentiment did not stop the one and only Jennifer Lopez in showing support for Sanjaya and explains why she respects him.

Sure, we may never see the curtains on this Sanjaya craziness, but there was at least one happy ending last night...
