It's official: Erstwhile 'Smallville' resident Kristin Kreuk is set to star opposite Jack Carpenter ('I Love You, Beth Cooper') in CBS' 'Hitched,' the Josh Schwartz-produced comedy pilot, according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter.

In the half-hour multi-camera comedy, Kreuk and Carpenter will play newlyweds faced with the reality of their family and friends after returning from their honeymoon.

The game of programming roulette continued Monday as several more shows were picked up by the networks -- each hopeful to have locked in the next big thing.

Fans of 'The O.C.' and 'Gossip Girl' have reason to rejoice. Creative wunderkind, Josh Schwartz and his 'Chuck' co-exec producer, Matt Miller, have sold a new sitcom called 'Hitched' to CBS. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the half-hour, mulitcamera comedy will focus on a young newlywed couple trying to figure each other - and marriage - out.

Joining 'Hitched' on the eye network will be a new untitled comedy from Tad Quill. Quill, a longtime collaborator with Bill Lawrence on such hits as 'Spin CIty' and 'Scrubs', has written a still untitled comedy about a widower dad who grapples with raising his 12 year-old son and getting back in the dating scene.

One of the pleasures of blogging here at TV Squad is getting a press kit from a network to promote a new or returning show. Sometimes it's just a folder with a screener. Sometimes it's a cornucopia of doo-dads and tchotchkas that might be cool. I've seen some reviewers build an entire wardrobe from press kit tee-shirts, hoodies and caps. So, it was with real excitement -- like the anticipation of a birthday gift -- when Fedex turned up with NBC Entertainment Publicity's big box of promotion for Chuck.

The ongoing revival of the multicamera comedy format continues. Josh Schwartz is best known as the creator of The O.C. and one of the masterminds behind The CW's Gossip Girl; a show so powerful that it reshaped an entire network around it. He's also an executive producer and writer over at Chuck. Now Schwartz is teaming with Matt Miller, a fellow producer on Chuck, to get into the comedy business.

Schwartz and Miller are writing a multicamera comedy script for CBS. The premise doesn't break any new ground; it's about a newlywed couple in their 20s, picking up the story right after their honeymoon. But it's the pedigree behind it that gives it promise. Both Gossip Girl and Chuck have strong comedic elements.

If it comes off right, you can bet CBS will be interested. They've had tremendous success with multicamera comedies the past few years, almost single-handedly reviving the format with huge hits like How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory. It's the writing, not the format. And writing is something at which Schwartz has proven himself quite adept.

To me, this should be a no-brainer. NBC should renew Chuck for a third season, even if it only commits to 12 episodes, it should bring the show back. However, I'm not one of the geniuses in Jeff Zucker's world; you know, those mental giants that have committed five hours of prime time to Jay Leno starting next fall and recently signed up for more Donald Trump celebrity/reality BS. No, I'm just a loyal Chuck viewer who has seen a show improve from week to week culminating with a superb final two episodes in 2009.

Well, there were rumors that on Monday at NBC's "infront" -- a preview for the "upfront" -- that Chuck would get a pick up. TV Guide says that's not the case. On Friday, Chuck star Zachary Levi told a reporter that Josh Schwartz, the Chuck exec producer, had emailed him that NBC's decision about Chuck was on hold. The pick up, if it comes, won't be for a couple of weeks.

TheWB.com's 'Rockville, CA' (premieres Tues., March 17) revolves entirely around one of the things Schwartz's hit shows are known best for: killer soundtracks. Taking place at fictitious Club Rockville, the web series' cast consists of a bevy of easy-on-the-eyes twenty-somethings, including the club owners, their friends and, of course, the music fans.

Chuck is one of my favorite shows on TV right now. It's so ridiculously entertaining that I haven't even thought for a second that it might not be renewed for a third season. But that's a possibility.

Co-creator and producer Josh Schwartz tells Sci-Fi Wire that even if the show is not picked up for another season, the season finale will be very satisfying for fans but at the same time will be a "game changer." Schwartz says the finale (and they are considering this a finale, because they don't know if they're going to be renewed or not) will launch the show in a new direction. It's actually the finale that they've been planning to do since the first episode.

I like Scott Bakula. I've liked him in just about everything I've seen him do. The latest news that Scott Bakula is joining Chuck as Papa Bartowski, Chuck and Ellie's long-lost dad, seems like great casting to me.

I can't imagine how the clever writers of the show -- that starts with creator Josh Schwartz -- will keep from referring to Quantum Leap and Enterprise in some way. In fact, knowing their penchant for weaving topical bits into the plot, there should be a slew of references.

Here at TV Squad, we often bemoan the quick cancellation of a show that deserves a chance to evolve. We've chronicled the demise of a fan favorite like Moonlight, and empathized with our readers. There have been times when we've agreed that networks spend so much time and talent developing a show that it seems a down-right shame when the plug is pulled after a half-dozen episodes.

So, knowing all that, we have to acknowledge when a network does something right. NBC is bending over backwards to see to it that Chuck becomes a ratings hit, to go along with its already established and growing fan base. Creator Josh Schwartz expressed his thanks to NBC for the post- Super Bowl Chuck episode. The Super Bowl is Sunday, February 1.

"They were doing this big promotion inside of the Super Bowl and handing out 150 million 3-D glasses, so we are the beneficiaries of that. ...Chuck seemed like the best fit for that type of thing."

I was really bitter towards CW for canceling Veronica Mars, so I was planning on not watching Gossip Girl out of spite. However, as a fan of (at least the first few seasons) of The O.C., the idea of another Josh Schwartz show intrigued me. Okay, that, and the fact that I loved Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (shut up), and the realization that my one-woman boycott wasn't going to bring VM back, all led me to the show.

When I tuned in, I really thought it would be The O.C. East, but Schwartz and the rest of the writers did a good job of making it its own show, I'm sure in no small part due to the fact that they had a series of books to work with. In fact, last night's 90210 premiere reminded me more of The O.C. than Gossip Girl ever has. So when I read that an O.C. alum was making her way to the Upper East Side, I wasn't exactly thrilled.

There are only so many hours of television I can fit in a day, so I'm picky and particular about what I watch. Chuck is one of those shows that I watched early last season, I liked it, but for reasons I can't think of, it didn't make the cut. Seeing as it was good enough and is clearly popular enough to have a second season, with the first season DVDs out in a couple of months, I may have to do some catching up and find a way to fit it in.

This session was great for fans of the show, as the first five minutes or so were filled with a video montage of scenes from next season. I'll describe some of those scenes in my summary below, but I'll start them off with SPOILER in case you don't want to know.

Today was the very last day of the press tour here in Beverly Hills. It was "TCA Day," with members of the association (including me) going to the Warner Brothers lot to visit the sets of ER, Pushing Daisies, and Chuck, where we spoke to cast members and producers (Oh, we went to the set of America's Best Dance Crew, but let's just forget I mentioned that one). Then we bused it over to the Fox lot, where Joss Whedon showed us around the set of Dollhouse, and the entire cast of King of the Hill gave a table read of their 250th episode. All this fun will be in upcoming posts later this summer.

Despite some of the griping you may have seen from me, it's been lots of fun. It's just a very tiring experience. Case in point: On Monday, NBC decided to close out the press conference portion of the tour by having us sit through ten panels, five of them after lunch. Here's a wrap-up post that goes over some of what went on yesterday that I haven't already covered.

Anyone who's followed the NFL over the last fifteen years knew what Michael Strahan's plans were going to be after retirement: TV, TV and more TV. It was a given; during most of his career with the Giants, Strahan loved to be in front of the camera, and often did commentary and studio gigs on his off-weeks or during the playoffs.

Now, with a Super Bowl ring in-hand, the newly-retired defensive end is making his move. Not only has he joined the FOX NFL pregame show, but he also just completed filming a cameo on the NBC geek adventure comedy Chuck. He plays Mitt, the manager of the sporting goods store that's in the same shopping center as Buy More, the store where Chuck works. He and his crew take over the home theater portion of the store during lunchtimes, playing Madden '09 and making a mess. My guess is that we'll set up a geeks vs. jocks scenario with retail being the venue, instead of the locker room.
