Julianna Margulies on 'The Good Wife's' Move to Sundays

by Maureen Ryan, posted May 24th 2011 1:00PM
Julianna Margulies isn't worried about 'The Good Wife's' move to Sundays.

I spoke to the 'Good Wife' star at Monday's Peabody Awards ceremony, where the CBS drama was one of 38 winners. And far from worrying about the switch from Tuesdays to Sundays, Margulies said she thought it represented the depth of the network's commitment to the show.

"It's the biggest testament to their belief in us," Margulies said. "It takes us away from the procedurals, which don't really feed into our show."

Julianna Margulies Has No Idea Why Her Young Son Has a German Accent (VIDEO)

Julianna Margulies, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Parents are often surprised by some of the things that come out of the mouths of their children. But most probably haven't had to deal with what Julianna Margulies and her husband do. Apparently, her son has some sort of German influence, as she told 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS).

And this isn't just something that's her imagination. When she and her husband went in for their first parent-teacher conference, the teacher asked them who in the family was German. The problem is, that no one is. So where's he picking up an accent that identifiable?

Margulies gave us a sampling of his accent, which she said is starting to incorporate a little Broooklyn flavor into the mix. We would love to hear this kid for ourselves. Next time you come on one of these talk shows, bring a recording of him. It sounds adorable!

A Love Letter to 'The Good Wife'

Julianna MarguliesSomething strange happened after watching a recent episode of 'The Good Wife.'

Following 'Cleaning House,' the fourth episode of the show's second season, an overwhelming feeling of pride swept over me. A TV show that I have no connection to whatsoever -- besides being a viewer -- filled me with immense pride. Why? Well, 'The Good Wife' is nothing short of amazing.

When a show can easily blend the generic nature of a procedural with weekly character development and overarching plots, it deserves to be called amazing -- perhaps even the best drama on network TV. (Our own Mo Ryan named it among her top 10 best shows of 2010.)

'The Good Wife' Season 2 Preview: Will Alicia and Peter Work Things Out?

by Kelly Woo, posted Sep 27th 2010 5:30PM

Look for 'The Good Wife' to get a little naughty in season 2.

When the CBS hit returns Tue., Sept. 28 at 10PM ET, it will have a tremendous first season to live up to. Last year, 'The Good Wife' racked up both viewers (an average of 13.1 million per episode) and awards (including an Emmy nomination for Best Drama).

And the show aims to keep the momentum going by raising the stakes even more.

Julianna Margulies Cursed Out Barack Obama's Chief of Staff (VIDEO)

Julianna Margulies Cursed Out Barack Obama's Chief of StaffMaking a college graduation speech must be nerve-wracking. There's all that pressure to inspire the young people of tomorrow, plus the fear of making a fool of yourself in public. Certainly, actress Julianna Margulies had some trouble with it.

On 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), she tells David Letterman how her terror of giving a bad speech led her to curse out Rahm Emanuel, the current White House Chief of Staff. Which was really a potentially awful idea on her part.

Emmy Picks: Best Lead Actress in a Drama

by Joel Keller, posted Aug 22nd 2010 4:30PM

With the Emmy awards a week away, I'm continuing to pick who I think should and who I think will win the major awards.

On Friday, I discussed the Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy category. Now come the categories for lead actress and actor, starting with the six worthy nominees for Lead Actress in a Drama.

Connie Britton, 'Friday Night Lights'
Glenn Close, 'Damages'

Mariska Hargitay, 'Law & Order: SVU'
January Jones, 'Mad Men'
Julianna Margulies, 'The Good Wife'
Kyra Sedgwick, 'The Closer'

Who will win:
The temptation here is to say that one of the previous winners, such as Hargitay or Close, will take the award because of the Academy's lack of creativity with their picks. But Margulies is a known quantity -- she's been nominated six times for 'ER,' both in the lead and supporting categories, winning after the show's first season -- and 'The Good Wife' was widely-watched enough to make me think that she may get the award this year. She carried the first year hit on her shoulders and did a great job playing the wounded but resilient Alicia Florrick.

Television Critics Honor 'Glee,' 'Modern Family,' 'Lost,' 'Breaking Bad,' 'The Good Wife' - TCA Report

Ryan Murphy and the cast of 'Glee' accept their TCA award for Program of the Year for 2009-10
The TCA Awards are always a hoot, mainly because the critics put their tape recorders away and just hang out with the folks we're honoring that night. And tonight, there was a pretty good crowd:

-- Ryan Murphy accepted three awards on behalf of 'Glee' (Best New Program, Program of the Year, and Jane Lynch's award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy), he and writer Ian Brennan extolling the importance of public funding for school arts programs,

-- Tom Hanks, accepting the Outstanding Miniseries or Movie award for 'The Pacific' saying 'I'm not f--king dressing up for you guys anymore" after seeing host Dax Shepard's red suit, Murphy's t-shirt-under-tux-jacket look, and the entire cast of 'Yo Gabba Gabba' out to accept the award for Outstanding Youth Programming,

-- Damon Lindelof, accepting the Outstanding Achievement in Drama Award for 'Lost' (which tied with 'Breaking Bad') reading all the nasty tweets he got after the show's epic finale,

-- Steven Levitan, accepting the Outstanding Achievement in Comedy Award for 'Modern Family,' telling the crowd that he was out of the country and didn't have time to memorize his speech, then talking about just-departed ABC entertainment chief Steve McPherson, quoting him as saying "as long as I'm around, your show is safe."

Does Alicia Choose Will or Peter on 'The Good Wife'?Alicia is no longer the junior litigator on 'The Good Wife' (Tue., 10PM ET on CBS), but her love-life is still in flux. Nothing's happened between her and Will since they kissed -- except admitting that their timing has been off since law school. On the season finale, Will laid it all out.

[Spoiler alert.]

In the middle of Peter's press conference, he called Alicia. "OK, I just need to say it," said Will. "We've been up and down, back and forth, and I look at you, Alicia, and I think--"

"Will, no," said Alicia. "... I have the press -- they're just waiting for a whiff of a new scandal, and I have a husband. So if you want to cut through all that noise, then show me a plan."
