Julianne Moore Reprises Role on 'As the World Turns' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 5th 2010 4:00PM
As a way to honor the end of the soap which launched her career as an actress, Julianne Moore briefly reprised her role as Frannie Hughes today on 'As the World Turns' (weekdays, 2PM ET on CBS). Moore played the dual roles of half-sisters Frannie and Sabrina on the soap from 1985 until 1988, when she won a Daytime Emmy Award.

Officially canceled by CBS last December, 'As the World Turns' is a casualty of declining ratings and a changing daytime TV landscape in which soaps are waning overall. The show will come to a close in September after a 54-year run.

Julianne Moore Returns to 'As the World Turns' on Monday

by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 1st 2010 11:05AM
julianne_moore_close_upWhen it was announced last month that movie star Julianne Moore was returning to 'As the World Turns' for a guest appearance, it sounded like a prank. And the fact that today is April 1 -- April Fool's Day -- maybe you think this is a gag. It's not. Julianne Moore, four-time Oscar-nominated actress -- is really going back to her roots.

On Monday, April 5, Julianne Moore will be on 'As the World Turns' as Frannie Hughes, the character she played from 1985-87 on the CBS soap. She also played Frannie's look-alike British twin Sabrina. She was so good on 'ATWT' that she won the Daytime Emmy in 1988 for Outstanding Ingenue in a Drama Series. And she was! So often in the soap genre, actors are given the opportunity to play a twin -- evil or not -- and they either rise to the occasion... or crash and burn.

Soaps' Most Famous Dual Roles: Heche, Moore, Canary and More

by Michael Maloney, posted Mar 18th 2010 5:00PM
Julianne Moore's return to her role as Frannie Hughes on 'As The World Turns' and the upcoming retirement of David Canary from his part as Adam Chandler on 'All My Children' got us thinking: some of the best performances on daytime television have come from actors who've played dual roles!

Here's a look back at ten stars that have done double-duty (and sometimes more) in TV's most demanding genre.

Anne Heche, 'Another World'

Marley Love. The sheltered sister of Donna and Peter Love, Marley had traditional teen woes before discovering her family tree had a case of root rot -- Marley was, in reality, Donna's daughter.

Julianne Moore and Toni Collette Play Charades on 'Jimmy Fallon' (VIDEO)

Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Toni Collette, Julianne MooreDo you ever get the feeling the late night hosts are running out of stuff to do? On 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC), Julianne Moore and Toni Collette played charades.

Ok, there are probably worse things than watching Jimmy Fallon try to do 'Jersey Shore' in charades. We can't think of any at the moment, though.

It's Official: Julianne Moore Returns to 'As the World Turns'

by Brad Trechak, posted Mar 1st 2010 12:29PM
Julianne MooreConfirming the rumor that was previously mentioned here on TV Squad, Julianne Moore will in fact be returning to the show and the Emmy-winning role that she played from 1985 to 1988. Moore is certainly at the point in her career where she can do whatever she wants, even if it's for nostalgia's sake.

This is a pretty big deal as movie stars rarely do a career step backwards, but Julianne Moore has been unconventional as of recent (thinking primarily of her '30 Rock' appearance). What if other movie stars returned to the roles that spawned them? Would Robin Williams play Mork again? What about having Bruce Willis revisit David Addison? Of course, neither of those shows are soap operas that are still in production, so the logistics would be a little tougher.

Or maybe this is just a case of a fading star trying to keep the shine going? What do you think? Sound off in the comments.

Will Julianne Moore Return to 'As the World Turns'?

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 1st 2010 11:03AM
julianne_moore_before_they_were_stars_abcOnce upon a time, long before 'Boogie Nights' and 'Far From Heaven' and '30 Rock' and a zillion other projects, Julianne Moore was a soap opera sensation. She was riveting in 1988 when she won a Daytime Emmy for playing Frannie Hughes and her look-alike sister, whom she had never known growing up, Sabrina Fullerton, on 'As the World Turns.'

With the end of the soap coming in September 2010, reportedly CBS has asked Julianne Moore to make a brief return to 'As the World Turns' ... for old time's sake.

Julianne Moore Eyes Return to 'As the World Turns'

by Scott Harris, posted Mar 1st 2010 10:30AM
For years, novelty mugs and t-shirts have sported the pithy slogan "Stop the world, I want to get off." But for Julianne Moore, the opposite may be true: The 'World' is about to stop -- and she's ready to get back on.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Moore is in talks to return to where it all started for her, the long-running CBS soap opera 'As the World Turns.' The afternoon staple, which debuted back in 1956, is slated to end its 54-year saga run September.

UPDATE: EW.com has since confirmed Moore's appearance, which will be a walk-on role that may tape as early as Wednesday.

Julianne Moore, Maria Bello Among Big Name Talent on Nets' "Wish List"

by Audrey Fine, posted Jan 27th 2010 1:00PM
Julianne MooreOnce upon a time, hot shot movie actors would never have deigned to stoop so low as to appear on -- gasp --- TV, but thanks to big screen talent like Glen Close ('Damages'), Alec Baldwin ('30 Rock') and Laurence Fishburne ('CSI) having made the leap, more and more "A listers" have begun to think of the old boob tube as less, well, boob-y.

In fact, during any given pilot season, the networks compile a "wish list" of movie stars they'd love to get their mitts on and this year's no different. The Hollywood Reporter details that this time 'round, Oscar nominee Julianne Moore and indie darling Maria Bello rest atop the list for several of the more meaty female roles.

It seems that Moore, who's been dipping her toes into the television pool with a [much-mailgned] guest arc on '30 Rock' would be the dream addition to the Peacock net's take on PBS' long-running 'Prime Suspect.' ABC, too, has its eyes on Moore for its upcoming comedic drama 'Scoundrels' but has also approached Bello and former box office heavyweight-turned-compulsive-tweeter, Demi Moore about the role of a mom who tries to get her family of small-time criminals back on the straight and narrow.

Review: 30 Rock - Winter Madness

(S04E11) "They're all named Sean, they're mean, and I hate it here." - Kenneth, about Boston

Being from Boston myself, I'm really enjoying these Boston (and Waltham)-centric episodes of 30 Rock. I often cringe at shows that have episodes set around this area. They'll get a location wrong or make dumb assumptions about us or get an accent wrong (more on that after the jump), but this show is getting a lot of little things wrong. Even the street scenes were well done, with the brick and all that.

And wait... Nancy mentioned Kelly's Roast Beef and, holy crap, Jack and Nancy actually imitated Chet Curtis and Natalie Jacobson? That is 55 kinds of awesome. Someone at 30 Rock knows Boston well.

'30 Rock' Season 4 Episode 8 - 'Secret Santa' (VIDEO)

'30 RockIt's holiday time at '30 Rock,' and Kenneth wants everyone to participate in his Secret Santa gifting. Not everyone is a fan, and most will do everything to avoid it -- including making up a fake religion. Turns out gift-giving is a sensitive topic for the team at TJS.

Also, Jack is reunited with an old high school flame (Julianne Moore) after reconnecting on a social network, and Liz and Jack offer to exchange Christmas presents.

I'm glad to see Danny back on the show. He hasn't been on that much (if at all) since being hired as the new cast member, and I thought it was going to be another one of those things where we don't see him again even though he's supposed to be on TGS still. But didn't you want to hear him sing normally during the TGS Christmas show? I didn't back Pete's plan to try to make Jenna angry (really, who wants that?) and it would have been a nice, Christmas-y ending for Danny and Jenna to sing well at the end and Jenna be OK with it. Instead, we got Jenna placated yet again and Pete going crazy. Eh.

Still, it was great that they got Cheyenne Jackson's singing in the show in a couple of scenes. Maybe in a later episode fans will find out that he's actually good.

Barbara Walters and Julianne Lock Lips (Again) on 'The View' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Dec 10th 2009 11:27AM
We'd classify this clip as best watched once, then quickly forgotten before it can cement itself in long-term memory.

On 'The View,' Barbara Walters recalled an interview in 2003 with Julianne Moore in which she tested the actress' assertion that it's more pleasant to kiss women than men. Apparently, the initial kiss was too fleeting for Walters, because she decides to go back for another helping.

Julianne Moore Spotted on '30 Rock' Set: Can She Pull Off Comedy?

by Rebecca Paiement, posted Nov 6th 2009 1:39PM
Julianne Moore 30 RockYesterday, Julianne Moore was reportedly seen in New York's Rockefeller Center, aka the filming location for NBC's Emmy-winning comedy '30 Rock.' Sources at E! are now predicting that Moore will be Jack Donaghy's (Alec Baldwin) new love interest this season.

Reps for NBC and Moore have yet to release an official statement. But in a recent interview, Baldwin himself said "I won't say who it is, but someone very near to us may be coming on to play my girlfriend for four episodes."

Onlookers at yesterday's filming didn't find any evidence to either confirm or deny the rumor, only catching things in between takes. But one snoop said that the two looked "very chummy," and seemed to be the only ones on location.
