Music's Superstars Highlight '2011 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 30th 2011 12:30AM
Victoria's Secret Fashion Show'One of television's most unusual annual events returned as 'The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show' (Tue., 10PM ET on CBS) took over the airwaves with lots of underwear and wings. But Adriana Lima and the gang on the runway were joined by a bevy of superstar musicians as well, to make it more of a show for non-fashion fans.

Okay, we get that the fact that supermodels wearing nothing but lingerie is enough to draw in a lot of non-fashion enthusiasts, but for those who need more, they got Kanye West and Jay-Z performing together, along with performances by Adam Levine -- who planted a kiss on his surprised girlfriend Anne Vyalitsina -- and Nicki Minaj.

Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Beyonce and Cloris Leachman Highlight the 2011 VMAs (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 29th 2011 3:21AM
Britney Spears & Lady Gaga, '2011 MTV Video Music Awards'As always, the 'MTV Video Music Awards' (Sun., 9PM ET on MTV) was a spectacle of sight and sound, filled with the hottest faces and voices in popular music. Jay-Z and Kany West lit up the stage with a duet, while Mrs. Jay-Z, Beyonce, performed and revealed that the couple was expecting.

Lady Gaga presented yet another crazy costume, only this time the craziest thing about it was that she was portraying a man -- her own lover, no less. She stayed in character to present Britney Spears with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, where the pair almost kissed, but Spears said, "I've done that already."

Dia Frampton Owns Kanye West's 'Heartless' As Piano Ballad on 'The Voice' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 8th 2011 3:41AM
Dia Frampton, 'The Voice'Despite having already released a major label album with her sister as Meg & Dia in 2009, Blake Shelton noticed that Dia Frampton seemed to have a nervous energy about her on 'The Voice' (Tue., 9PM ET on NBC). The band is unsigned now, so perhaps she sees this as a last opportunity to make a career doing what she loves.

In this first week of live competition, it's more important than ever for the contestants to come out strong and give their best performances. Shelton gave Frampton a real chance to shine with an unusual song choice in Kanye West's 'Heartless.'

To direct her nervous energy, she performed behind a grand piano and gave a very interesting and compelling performance. While her voice may not have soared as acrobatically as those on Christina Aguilera's team this week, Frampton certainly gave one of the most memorable performances of the night.

Katy Perry and Kanye West Get Alien for 'E.T' on 'American Idol (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 22nd 2011 1:12AM
Katy Perry, 'American Idol'You weren't fooling anyone Ryan Seacrest by pretending you were backstage with Jacob and Stefano after Katy Perry and Kanye West's performance of 'E.T.' We've seen enough of these 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX) to know a pre-recorded segment when we see it.

Or how about the fact that the audience was deathly quiet when they cut to the trio backstage. They were just cheering raucously at the conclusion of Perry's memorable performance, as well as West's mid-song appearance.

When the number began with a clip of West rapping from the 'E.T.' video, we weren't sure if he was going to be on hand, but he showed up later to bring his signature style to the hit single.

Kanye West and George W. Bush -- Best Friends Forever (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Nov 15th 2010 1:25AM
Kanye West and George W. Bush -- Best Friends ForeverFormer President George W. Bush and singer Kanye West have been in the news lately, and 'SNL' (Sat., 11:30PM ET on NBC) reveals that, surprisingly, they actually have a lot in common.

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Kanye appeared on live TV and notoriously said: "George Bush doesn't care about black people." Last week Mr. Bush discussed the accusation in an interview with Matt Lauer, during which he said it represented "an all-time low" for his presidency. He then denied he meant that criticism of his handling of the crisis was worse than the crisis itself.

'Saturday Night Live' Bryan Cranston/Kanye West Recap

by Dr. Ryan Vaughan, PhD (no, seriously), posted Oct 3rd 2010 11:30AM
'Saturday Night Live'['SNL' - 'S36 E02']

Last week's 'Saturday Night Live' was good, but it had a few built-in tricks to ensure its quality: it was the season premiere, a former cast member was the host, and the musical guest had large breasts.

The second episode of the season would need to stand on its own with only the wiles of its multi-faceted host and enigmatic musical guest. When you played Tim Whatley on 'Seinfeld,' hosting 'SNL' is about the only thing left to do in your career, outside of getting into a feud with Kanye West. Bryan Cranston's bucket list might now be two items shorter.

'The Cleveland Show' Season Premiere -- Cleveland Vs. Barack ObamaWe all know that President Barack Obama comes from a fairly humble background. Still, who knew that Obama was so humble that he actually used to hang out with Cleveland Brown? But that's the revelation on the season premiere of 'The Cleveland Show' (Sun., 8:30PM ET on FOX).

Yes, apparently Cleveland used to go to school with "Barry Obama." When it's further clarified that his old friend's name was "Barry Hussein Obama," Cleveland suddenly realizes that he once knew the current President of the United States.

[Warning: Spoiler alert.]

Chelsea Recaps Her Experience Hosting the 'VMAs,' Curses the Haters (VIDEO)

Chelsea Handler Curses, Recaps Her Experience on the 'VMAs'Everyone else is probably still recovering from last night's 'MTV Video Music Awards' -- especially Taylor Swift and Kanye West, but also all of us viewers who had to deal with witnessing the whole Taylor/Kanye feud yet again. Meanwhile, 'VMA' host Chelsea Handler is already back at work, resuming her normal duties on 'Chelsea Lately' (weeknights, 11PM ET on E!).

Here is Chelsea's summary of her MTV experience: "I had a really great time last night, and for anyone who thinks that I didn't do a good job, f*ck off!" She also added that she got "pretty f*cked up." Oh, Chelsea -- such language, young lady! Do you kiss your mother with that mouth? Also, we're assuming and/or hoping that she got "f*cked up" after the show -- not during or before it.

Taylor Swift Sings New Song at VMAs 2010 About Feud With Kanye (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 13th 2010 10:25AM
Taylor Swift Forgies Kanye West, Calls Him 'Innocent' - but Kanye Strikes BackThe whole world remembers what took place at last year's 'MTV Video Music Awards.' You do remember, right? While singer Taylor Swift was accepting the award for "Best Female Video," Kanye West crashed the stage. He then interrupted her speech with the now-infamous words, "Taylor ... I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!!!" Well, it's been 365 days since then, and we're still dealing with the fallout from that little incident.

Taylor Swift certainly recalls what happened. And on this year's 'VMAs' (Sun., 6PM ET on MTV), she addressed the controversy with a premiere performance of a song from her upcoming album.

George Lopez Picks a Tattoo, With Some Help From Kat Von D (VIDEO)

George Lopez Picks a Tattoo, With Some Help From Kat Von DIs getting "ink" a good idea or not? George Lopez must consider this question. He's 49 years old, and thus far, he has no tattoos. But all of that may change tonight.

On 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights, 11PM ET on TBS), George talks with legendary tattoo artist Kat Von D. And she gives him a bunch of different options for works of art that he could have permanently inscribed into his skin. Here are some of the options:

1) A tattoo of Kanye West's "Twitter" page.

2) A tattoo of a United States passport. (This being a sly "illegal immigrant" reference on Kat's part.)

3) The names of Lopez's wife and daughter. (Aw! How cute!)

4) A "Golf or Die" tattoo. (Which refers to George's love of ... golf -- duh.)

So those are the options! They're all fairly good -- or awful, depending on your point of view. Which one should George go with?

Chris Brown Tries for Redemption at the 'BET Awards 2010' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jun 28th 2010 2:40AM
Chris Brown Tries for Redemption at the 'BET Awards 2010'The 'BET Awards 2010' (Sun., 8PM ET on BET) took place tonight. The show featured performances by Alicia Keys, Enimem, and Drake. Among the nominees for awards were Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, as well as many others.

Kanye West also showed up to perform -- in one of his first high-profile events since notoriously interrupting Taylor Swift at the 'MTV Video Music Awards.'

But the highlight of the show was an performance by Chris Brown, who paid tribute to Michael Jackson. Brown famously pled guilty last year for assaulting his girlfriend Rihanna, and ever since then, his sales and reputation have suffered. But he appeared to make a stab at redemption with his emotional rendition of several of Michael Jackson's hit songs -- including 'Billie Jean' and 'Man in the Mirror.' At the close of his performance, Brown broke down into tears. Were they tears of remorse for what he had done to Rihanna?

Sundays with Seth: A Quiet Anniversary Celebration

by Jason Hughes, posted May 3rd 2010 9:37AM
'Family Guy' - 'Brian and Stewie'
One hundred and fifty episodes is an impressive achievement, but it's particularly gratifying for Seth MacFarlane's 'Family Guy.' Once canceled by FOX, and revived due to fan response to DVD sales and airings on cable, MacFarlane is now the king of FOX Sunday nights. So how did he choose to celebrate his perseverance?

'Family Guy' is known for elaborate musical numbers, innumerable cutaway gags, and sheer nonsense sequences like a giant chicken fight that lasts for minutes and minutes. Quite literally, anything was a possibility, so what a surprise that MacFarlane chose to have two of the show's most popular characters have a conversation. And that's it.

The tail end of the hour-long episode was a clip compilation of some of those musical numbers. But the bulk of the episode had Stewie and Brian, locked in a bank vault for two days, just talking to one another. No cutaways, no broad humor, though I won't say there wasn't toilet humor.

South Park Season Thirteen on DVD, and a New Microsite

by Nick Zaino, posted Mar 16th 2010 8:44AM
Eric Cartman from the Today is the day you can finally own epic episodes of 'South Park' like "Fishsticks," in which decimates Kanye West and Carlos Mencia (actually decapitates Mencia), "The Coon," which is Cartman's superhero identity, and "Whale Whores," which shows the 'Whale Wars' crew as selfish asses. Yes, season thirteen is out on DVD and Bluray today, a day before season fourteen debuts on Comedy Central.

The rollout for these feels a bit like an old infomercial. But wait! That's not all! In addition to the DVD, which features some deleted scenes and a short feature touring the South Park Studios, you also get a microsite dedicated to season thirteen. There, you can get a bunch of 'South Park' goodies like wallpaper and ringtones (including West's "Gay Fish Song").
