In just a little over a month (Wednesday, January 21st can't come soon enough), season five of Lost begins on ABC. After a shortened fourth season (because of the writer's strike), fans have been salivating for answers after the absolutely insane three-hour finale.

Where did the island go? How did Locke die? And why the heck do the Oceanic Six need to go back?

Well... keep holding your breath for those answers. Fortunately, the Lost season four DVD will provide some respite in the meantime. While it won't be released until next Tuesday, 12/9, many of the DVD featurette extras have been made available online and we got our hands on a couple.

So if you feel like knowing what happens behind the scenes down in Hawaii, then you're going to want to see these clips. Plus, if you feel like being spoiled a tiny bit, I've also included a sneak peek from the upcoming season five premiere, "Because You Left."

OK, so we've all seen the latest episode of Lost and we now know who the Oceanic Six are.

There seems to be some confusion among fans as to whether we've seen the last of the six "survivors" (in quotes because who the hell knows what the end game will reveal). Up until last night's episode we saw that Jack, Kate, Hurley, and Sayid definitely survived. Last night we were supposed to find out the last of the Oceanic Six. It was revealed that Sun survived too, but Jin died (possibly on the island, but that's another plot point to be revealed later).

First off, spectacular season finale. It was exciting, dramatic, gave us answers (and even more questions) and was just beautifully done all around. Easily the best season-ender in the short history of Lost, and one of the best season finales of any series, ever. Every character had something to do (loved Hurley in the van and Locke throwing the knife into Naomi), the editing was phenomenal, the music was just really well done (the ominous drums, the sad music with Charlie dying, etc), and Matthew Fox deserves an Emmy for this episode alone.

I'm not sure if you've been reading Doc Jensen's Lost theories over at Entertainment Weekly's web site. The guy is obsessed (in a good way), and has come up with some very intriguing and plausible ideas on what is really happening on the island and what all the clues (the numbers, the names, how people are connected, etc) might actually mean. Not sure if I follow his logic with his latest theory though.

He's been thinking about the names and what they could mean in the overall picture. The people behind the show have said that the character names have not been chosen randomly. Each name means something (though I wonder what "Hurley" could mean. Does he vomit a lot? Is he really a baseball player?), and the name that especially intrigues him is the new character, Jacob, who we saw in a quick scene on one of the monitors wearing an eyepatch (if that was him, that is!).

(S03E06) Wow... where to begin. That was certainly an episode worthy of being called a mid-season finale. Good doesn't even begin to describe it. Definitely gives us plenty to talk about while we wait for the show to return in February for it's uninterrupted run though.

This episode focused on Kate's flashbacks and those have always been sort of 50-50 for me, but this one was great I thought. Even better than when she blew up her father. Of course I'm slightly biased because these flashbacks featured Nathan Fillion and the idea of having Mal Reynolds on Lost... it's making my head hurt. Fillion played Kate's husband (she was married!) Kevin. So I suppose rather than "what Kate did" you could call these flashbacks "who Kate did."

Anyone see Nightline last night? It was basically a commercial for Lost.

I know that the show has sorta steered away from the typical hard news that Ted Koppel used to do in almost every single episode, but this was rather odd. They were talking about the Lost phenomenon as if it was brand new and some cultural force they had to talk about. But it wasn't even that serious, it was really just a fluff piece on the show, the theories, and the web world it has spawned. An informerical for another show on the ABC network (and conveniently timed for a day before tonight's episode airs).

Not that it wasn't interesting to Lost fans. The three producers they had talking about the show (J.J. Abrams, Carleton Cuse, and Damon Lindelof) had some cool tidbits, but I don't think that at this point they're going to add any new fans. And I thought it was odd that an ABC news show would take an entire half hour to talk about their own sci-fi drama.

With the holiday shopping season being a mere 38 days away, it's time to sit down and think about what you want to give out as gifts this year? Elmo TMX? Nah, they'll probably be sold out of those until the middle of 2007. The new Sony Playstation? Well, it's going to be so expensive that all of your friends will probably need to share it. Lost action figures? Come on, they don't make action figures from your favorite show.

Wrong, Mr. (or Mrs.) holiday consumer! The truth is that they do exist and will be coming to a store (or website) near you this fall, courtesy of McFarlane Toys. According to the website figures.com the company will release six fan-favorite characters from the first season. These include characters such as Charlie (pictured here and in Anna's post from August), Jack, Kate and Hurley. Future releases will feature characters like Sawyer, Jin, Walk (with Vincent his dog) and Boone.

(S03E02) Someone want to tell me why they had to call this episode "The Glass Ballerina?" It referred to one tiny thing at the very beginning! I don't know, I guess I just like my episode titles to actually tell me what's going on and not give me some vague reference to something that's ultimately not all that important. Alias used to be notorious for this. But in the end, what did we learn from the glass ballerina? We learned that Sun is a big ol' cheating liar.

This is really odd. It's a promo for Lost from Channel 4 in England. I'm not sure quite what to make of it other than it seems to me that it has to be a promo for season one. I say that because A) it prominently features Boone and B) bits and pieces of Flight 815 are still strewn all over the shore. I just don't get why they needed such a weird ad for the show? What's wrong with the ones that air here in the States?

It has it's moments though. I thought it was funny when Locke and Walt were "conducting" the dance and the crazy organ music (I think that's what it's supposed to be). Plus, it was very telling that Jack and Sawyer were fighting over Kate. If all this sounds confusing, you can watch the video after the jump. Any other interpretations? Am I right in thinking this is an old promo?
