Grammys: Tina Fey vs. Betty White!?

by Chris Harnick, posted Dec 1st 2011 12:10PM
Tina Fey Betty White GrammysThe Grammys have always put some of our favorite artists up against one another, but the latest batch of nominations is giving us one very epic battle: Tina Fey vs. Betty White. Say what!?

Both funny women have been nominated for Best Spoken Word Album, Fey for her reading of 'Bossypants' and White for 'If You Ask Me (And Of Course You Won't).' We can't wait for the (hopefully) hilarious split-screen reactions from the actual ceremony.

White and Fey aren't the only TV stars to pick up nominations.

Seth MacFarlane picked up a few noms, one for the 'Family Guy' original song 'Christmastime Is Killing Us' and another Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Over in the Best Comedy Album category, Kathy Griffin, Louis C.K. and Lonely Island are up against one another.

Kathy Griffin Brings the Jokes as Guest Judge on 'America's Next Top Model' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 27th 2011 1:15AM
Kathy Griffin, 'America's Next Top Model'Just for fun, and probably to drum up some attention, 'America's Next Top Model' (Wed., 9PM ET on The CW) invited Kathy Griffin to join the judging panel for this week's episode. While she didn't bring any particular fashion knowledge, she did bring plenty of jokes.

She introduced herself to the models by announcing that Tyra Banks had been fired. "Sometimes people get fired because they don't have it," she said. "So they decided to hire me as a real model, and I'm going to give her some training and some lessons."

Kelly Ripa and Kathy Griffin Eat Candy-Laced Pate on 'Iron Chef America' (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Oct 24th 2011 8:40AM
Iron Chef: AmericaThis week on 'Iron Chef America' (Sun., 10PM ET on FOOD) Chef Marc Forgione took on 'Top Chef' fan favorite Lee Anne Wong in Battle Halloween.

Kathy Griffin and Kelly Ripa were given the task of judging a range of dishes all prepared using the secret ingredient: Halloween candy.

We love Chef Wong, but honestly didn't think her duck liver pâté on crostini looked too appetizing: The strawberry hard candy gastrique lent it an unpleasant bloody tinge. Still, given some of the secret ingredients in the past, the judging panel got off lightly.

Ripa joked that adding candy's "a great way to get your kids to eat pâté," while über-dieter Griffin didn't manage to convince us that she really is "a pâté fanatic." Forgione's offerings, however, seemed to fare better with the ladies. Did he take home the title?

Kathy Griffin Would Like to Be Made an Honorary Kardashian (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Sep 16th 2011 6:15PM
Kathy Griffin on 'The Talk'Kathy Griffin has won two Emmys for 'My Life on the D-List,' which has been nominated for Outstanding Reality Program in each of its six seasons. She has one more chance at it on Sunday's Emmy Awards. Might she have won more if she had a more famous name? Kardashian, for example? Griffin went on 'The Talk' (weekdays, 7AM on CBS) to talk about her chances and lobby Kris Jenner for a name change.

Griffin said she had lost to 'Deadliest Catch' in the past, which she found ironic, since that's a nickname for her ladyparts, she joked. Julie Chen asked Griffin who some of her big targets were these days, and she turned to Kris Jenner, who was sitting next to her, and said, "Ear muffs." Then they showed a clip of Griffin's less-than-kind wishes on Kim Kardashian's wedding site.

Kathy Griffin Gets Naked -- Often -- At Anderson Cooper's House (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 14th 2011 2:00AM
Kathy Griffin, 'Anderson'Anderson Cooper invited Kathy Griffin to stay at his house, and while he may have been surprised by a lot of what went down, we certainly weren't. He had Griffin on his new show, 'Anderson' (Weekdays, Syndicated), where he showed some of the footage. It was almost 'Too Hot for TV!'

To make matters worse, the first night Griffin was in his house, she was there alone. That freed her up to send pictures of herself in various states of undress, draped all over his house. Clearly she was making herself more than comfortable in his house.

She then crawled into bed to continue making him uncomfortable, asking him if he wanted to touch her, and even revealing that she's wearing his underwear. But nowhere turned out to be safe from her shenanigans.

Kathy Griffin Carefully Presents Her Opinion of Marcus Bachmann (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 2nd 2011 5:48AM
Kathy Griffin, 'The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson'Kathy Griffin was very careful in how she worded her thoughts on Michele Bachmann's husband Marcus on 'The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS). But, carefully chosen words or not, she made it very clear what her take on this man was.

"I would say that Marcus Bachmann reminds me of a lot of the type of men who come see my live shows," Griffin said, referring to the large number of gay men who support her.

She was even going to name her special after Bachmann's "Pray the Gay Away" initiative. "I was going to call the special 'Pray the Gay Back,'" she said, but Bravo changed the name to 'Kathy Griffin Pants Off.'

Kathy Griffin Asked Michele Bachmann If She Was Born a Bigot or Grew Into One (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Aug 16th 2011 11:35AM
Kathy Griffin has made a living ripping on female Republican Presidential candidates. Okay, really just Sarah Palin, but she can now add Iowa Ames Straw Poll winner Michele Bachmann to her resume.

Griffin told an amazing story on 'Conan' about running into Bachmann at an event in Washington, D.C., when the comedienne was organizing a rally in support of 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' repeal for 'My Life on the D-List.' When she found herself riding an escalator with Bachmann, Griffin asked the Tea Partier if she'd support the rally for gay rights. Bachmann said, "I don't think so."

Weirdly, Bachmann's aide then pulled out a flip-cam to record the conversation for her website. Griffin couldn't resist, and followed up with a zinger: "Congresswoman Bachmann: Were you born a bigot or did you grow into it?"

Kathy Griffin and Margaret Cho Spar Over Almond Milk on 'Drop Dead Diva' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 15th 2011 2:11AM
Kathy Griffin, 'Drop Dead Diva'Fans of 'Drop Dead Diva' (Sun., 10PM ET on Lifetime) know that Kim can be catty with Jane, and pretty much everyone else on the show. What we learned this week, is that this behavior is a family trait, as Kathy Griffin guest-starred as her sister.

When Teri (Margaret Cho) catches Griffin drinking the last of her almond milk out of the refrigerator, even though it was clearly labeled with her name, Griffin offered no apologies. When asked if she was planning to replace it, she said, "I would tell you to have your assistant buy you another carton, but I can tell by your shoes that you are the assistant."

The two comedians threw a few barbs back and forth, with Cho getting in jabs about Griffin's plastic surgery and wardrobe choices. Griffin is certainly having a bit of a renaissance on television right now, appearing in shows across the dial.

Non-Celeb Kathy Griffin Tries Stand-Up Comedy on 'Same Name' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 1st 2011 2:02AM
Kathy Griffin, 'Same Name'Both Kathy Griffins learned something on the latest installment of 'Same Name' (Sun., 9PM ET on CBS). The 'D-List' Kathy Griffin learned a little something about domesticity, while the mother from Atlanta learned a little about gay culture and about the pressures of performing on stage.

As part of her stint as the celebrity Kathy Griffin, the Georgia mom had to step in to one of Griffin's stand-up gigs and give comedy a try. She got in a few good quips, but was lucky to get bailed out at the last minute by the return of celebrity Kathy.

What's more, she'd brought along her Georgian counterpart's family, who certainly looked like they enjoyed mom's inaugural try at stand-up comedy. They were far more excited, though, just to see her. We have a feeling, she'll be leaving the comedy to Hollywood's Kathy Griffin.

Kathy Griffin and Her 'Same Name' Counterpart Discuss Life-Swapping Experience on 'The Talk' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 29th 2011 6:15PM
Two Kathy Griffin's from 'Same Name' on 'The Talk'Kathy Griffin spent years showing people how tough her life was on 'My Life On the D-List,' and now she has outside testimony to prove it. Kathy Griffin, a fiberglass saleswoman from Fayetteville, Ga, appeared on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) to discuss her experience switching places with comedian Kathy Griffin for the show 'Same Name.' The more famous Griffin appeared by video from her namesake's home in Georgia.

"My biggest surprise has been the work that goes into a production," said fiberglass Kathy. "It's a lot of work. Kathy's got a tough life. And being a comedian, I learned, is really not easy." Comedian Kathy wasn't having a good time of it, either. "My domestic abilities are not what they're used to," she said, surrounded by the other Kathy's husband and two boys. "First of all, with my fame, I had to actually pour my own soda, find the ice, and the straw."

Brian Regan Can't Match the Elegance of Ellen Pompeo's Words on 'Marriage Ref' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 11th 2011 6:20AM
Ellen Pompeo, Brian Regan & Kathy Griffin, 'The Marriage Ref'Ellen Pompeo may be the most eloquent guest yet on 'The Marriage Ref' (Sun., 10PM ET on NBC). The issue at the heart of this couple's marriage had to do with the wife's very expensive little hobby.

She liked to build and furnish lavish dollhouses, but the cost of the furniture accessories was almost the same as buying the same thing at full-size. The wife says other hobbies are expensive too, but this is the one that makes her happy. The husband's simply balking at the price.

Pompeo sided with the wife, but managed to do it so masterfully that the husband was nodding and hanging on her every word as well.

Kathy Griffin and the Women of 'The Talk' Discuss Their Pink Buttons (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 8th 2011 5:40PM
Kathy Griffin points to her 'Pink Button' on 'The Talk'And now to test the limits of our euphemistic abilities, a clip of Kathy Griffin and the women of 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) talking about "My New Pink Button." This is, in Julie Chen's words, "a cosmetic dye that temporarily restores color to your genital area." At least, that's where the discussion started, and it drifted into more questionable territory from there.

Griffin imagined the impressive application of such a product. "You're taking your clothes off and he's like, what, it just keeps getting better, and you're like, 'Check this out,'" she said. Leah Remini said Pink Button could be useful to some women, but wouldn't maybe not her, specifically. "Some stuff can look like it was in a small house fire," she said. As the audience began to woo and laugh, she quickly added, "I'm not saying mine."

Getting even more personal, as is her wont, Griffin revealed her nickname for her happy lady part. "I call her 'Little Kathy,'" she said, "and she's always in a good mood and she goes, 'Hi, come on in!'"

Kathy Griffin Rips on Sarah Palin Some More on 'Kathy Griffin: Gurrl Down' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 23rd 2011 10:20AM
'Kathy Griffin: Gurrl Down'Another Kathy Griffin comedy special means another chance for her to rip into Sarah Palin. But on 'Kathy Griffin: Gurrl Down' (Wed., 9PM ET on Bravo), she explained that it's not because she has a vendetta against Palin and her family.

"It's just that they're so f****** funny," she said.

She went on to tell a story about Palin's response to her thoughts about Griffin playing a Palin-like character on 'Glee.' According to Griffin, Palin said, "If Kathy Griffin wants to make fun of me ... she should come to Alaska and make fun of me."

That's Griffin's favorite part, because she's not only already gone to Alaska making fun of Palin, she went right up to Palin's front door and knocked on it. Of course, with Palin either exploring Alaska for a reality show or traveling the country on a bus it's no wonder she wasn't there to answer. But we're sure these kids will get together and hug it out someday (not really).

Letterman Has a Hard Time Believing Kathy Griffin Is Friends With Cher (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 8th 2011 4:31AM
Kathy Griffin, 'Late Show with David Letterman'For some reason, David Letterman had a hard time believing that Kathy Griffin could be friends with Cher. Maybe it's because Griffin always talks about how she's on the 'D-List,' but on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) she revealed how the pair met.

It was through a mutual friend, Rosie O'Donnell, who's still above that 'D-List' herself. Griffin said she wasn't sure if she should give Cher her number, but the latter cleared that up. According to Griffin, Cher told her, "Of course you should, I'm f****** Cher."

What this might mean is that it's time for Griffin to upgrade the title of her show. Maybe it should be 'Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List Hanging Out With A-Listers from Time to Time.' Or, if that's too unwieldy, 'Kathy Griffin Knows Cher.' That would certainly draw some more attention toward the series.
