'Lie to Me' Season Finale: Lightman Has the "Sex Talk" With His Daughter (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 13th 2010 11:53PM
Well, we all have our little blind spots. And usually, these blind spots relate to our friends or loved ones. Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) is an expert at uncovering the truth and decoding the body language of others. But it turns out that he's not so good at this when it comes to his own daughter. On the season finale of 'Lie to Me' (Mon., 9PM ET on Fox), Lightman arrives home to find his teenager daughter Emily (Hayley McFarland) messing around with a boy upstairs. Cal is outraged, and forces the young man (played by Carter Jenkins) to leave. Emily is pretty upset herself, and says this to her father: "It's just sex, dad!" Which really doesn't improve the situation.
Ria and Eli Get Awkwardly Romantic on 'Lie to Me' (VIDEO)

Office romances! They're always a bad idea. But thank God, no office-related fooling around takes place on 'Lie to Me' (Mon., 9PM ET on Fox). What a relief.[Spoiler alert.]
Thus far, Ria (Monica Raymund) and Eli (Brendan Hines) have wisely refrained from engaging in a workplace romance. This shows considerable restraint on their part: especially since Eli has been flirting with Ria since their first meeting, some three seasons ago. On tonight's episode, the pair still avoid fooling around in the office ... they just wait until they're drunk in a bar after work. And then they start passionately -- and randomly -- making out. See, that totally solves the problem. No worries!
Turning Kidnappers Against Each Other on 'Lie to Me' (VIDEO)

Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) is a genius-level psychologist, and an expert at uncovering the lies of others. But this doesn't mean that he's not willing to tell a few lies himself -- when necessary. On the new 'Lie to Me' (Mon., 9PM ET on Fox), Cal tells a fib. He has a good reason for doing it, though. He does it in order to save another man's life.[Spoiler alert.]
DEA agent Dave Burns (Max Martini) is kidnapped by drug dealers. The head kidnapper suspects that Dave caused the death of his father. To make matters more interesting, Dave is also the boyfriend of Dr. Gillian Foster (Kelli Williams) -- the woman that Cal Lightman is pretty much in love with. Obviously, Cal is still going to try to save David; but it makes it a little more poignant that he's risking his life for the man who is sleeping with his secret crush.
'Lie to Me' - Dr. Lightman's Daughter Is in Danger (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 17th 2010 12:44AM
What's the worst thing that you can threaten another person with? Probably it's when you threaten the life of their child. And that's what happens on 'Lie to Me' (Mon., 9PM ET on Fox).[Spoiler alert.]
Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) is dealing with the aftermath of a case from the past. Lightman sent a killer to his death for murdering an 8-year-old child. But now, it seems as though the same killer is still on the loose -- which would mean that Cal captured the wrong guy. Did Cal unwittingly prosecute an innocent man?
To make matters worse, it looks like the child-murderer is after Cal's daughter Emily (played by Hayley McFarland). At this point, Dr. Lightman gets a terrifying call over the phone: " ... Do you know where you daughter is?" It might be the worst message that a father could receive.
'Lie to Me': Your Word Against Mine (VIDEO)

Deceit, murder, and (of all things) a stolen jewel-encrusted egg. We enter the tangled world of juvenile delinquents on 'Lie to Me' (Mon., 8PM ET on Fox).[Spoiler alert.]
Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) is called in to investigate a series of crimes involving the delinquents. But of course, this being one of those TV procedural drama-type shows, the bad guy is going to be ... the last person that you would expect. So is the villain one of the kids who already have a criminal record? No -- of course not! Duh!
Kelli Williams Talks About Selling Lemonade With Johnny Carson (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 13th 2010 9:00PM
Kelli Williams -- star of the drama 'Lie to Me' -- appeared on 'The Kilborn File' (weeknights, 7PM ET on Fox). There, she discussed her "normal" childhood, growing up in Beverly Hills as the daughter of an actress and a plastic surgeon.Ms. Williams spoke of being a little kid in Hollywood, and having famous stars as her neighbors -- including Kenny Rogers, Sonny and Cher ... and Johnny Carson, who lived right across the street from her. Since tour buses stopped there to look at Johnny Carson's house, the young Ms. Williams opened up a business called "The Johnny Carson Lemonade Stand" -- in order to separate some of the tourists from their money.
The lemonade stand idea was Johnny Carson's own suggestion. While discussing the topic, host Craig Kilborn hinted that Johnny might have wanted a share of the profits from the lemonade. Ms. William neither confirmed nor denied this.
A Last Goodbye on 'Lie to Me' (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 12th 2010 11:55PM
Dr. Cal Lightman can read the truth -- or the lack of it -- in anyone's face. But on the latest episode of 'Lie to Me' (Mon., 8PM ET on Fox), Lightman must use his truth-reading methods for the most important purpose of all: conveying a man's last message to his wife and child.[Spoiler alert.]
Dr. Lightman (Tim Roth) is called in to investigate a case involving a policeman who was shot in a federal housing project. After the injury, the cop is completely paralyzed -- and can only communicate by blinking his eyes. Lightman interprets the dying man's reactions to his questions -- and manages to solve the crime. But then, the policeman is about to expire from his injuries, and Cal must use his skills to convey a final dying statement of love.
Contempt of Court on 'Lie to Me' (VIDEO)

What if you had to appear in court, and were sworn to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? And then what if you were a master of uncovering lies? [Spoiler alert.]
A Bomb Explodes on 'Lie to Me' (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Jun 14th 2010 10:05PM
Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) is a genius. He can see through lies and deceit. He can "read" other people in order to learn the truth. He's an expert in psychology and in human behavior. But how much use is all of this ... when a bomb goes off right outside your office?[Spoiler alert.]
Review: Lie to Me - Tractor Man

With the fall TV season slowly winding down, it was a pleasant surprise when Fox announced that Lie To Me's fall finale would air practically halfway into December. Now that the episode has come and gone and the TV schedules are becoming more and more barren over the coming weeks, I'm already wishing that Fox would just make up their minds and figure out when the final twelve episodes of the season will start airing. While "Tractor Man" wasn't Cal and the gang's strongest outing, it was still a solid reminder why Lie To Me has become so much more than just another crime procedural.
Review: Lie to Me - Fold Equity

There's always a potential for screw-ups when networks start airing episodes out of the producers intended order (see NBC and their goofs with Detective Crosetti's death in season three of Homicide), but Lie to Me seems to have avoided that sort of miscalculation despite FOX's shuffling of the season order. That is, until "Fold Equity" aired last night. Originally set to air during Fox's Simpsons week (catch the Sideshow Bob reference?), "Fold Equity" didn't drop the ball on anything as major as a character's death, but more than once during the hour it felt as though we were taking some giant steps backward.
Review: Lie to Me - Secret Santa
by Jonathan Toomey, posted Nov 24th 2009 2:31PM

(S02E08) "You believe in Santa Claus?" - Lightman
Ho Ho Ho... you're going to Afghanistan. Not exactly a Christmas present to be happy about. Having said that, Cal must surely be happy about what he accomplished in last night's episode of Lie to Me.
Sent to a US Marines outpost in the middle of the desert near Kabul, Cal was tasked with uncovering the truth about a deep-cover US operative who got left for dead and had to join to Taliban to survive. Cal was able to get plenty of info from his subject about two missing Marines but we ended up learning far more about Dr. Lightman as a result of his methods.

(S02E07) "Finally got you thinking like a criminal. Wonders will never cease." - Cal to Gillian
I have to admit, that image of Cal Lightman in a girlie apron still makes me laugh out loud. Lie to Me may have scored a place in our drama category here on TV Squad, but in our household, we laugh all the way through the show. That's partly because my son does a perfect Cal Lightman impression, with his penguin walk and in-your-face look to see whether you're lying or not.
But on to this episode -- the perfect scenario for Lightman and team, in figuring out Max's lineage. I lost track of how many cold cases they solved along the way. Lots.
Review: Lie to Me - Lack of Candor
by Jonathan Toomey, posted Nov 10th 2009 11:59AM

(S02E06) "You work here. I know everything." - Lightman
Looks like we've got a bit of a trend going on here. Just a few weeks ago, we got a glimpse into Cal's seedy criminal past and now we got a taste of what Reynolds was up to before he became the FBI liaison to The Lightman Group.
As enjoyable as a one-off case on Lie to Me can be, it's way more interesting when Cal starts using his talent on the people working in his own office. There's more than enough material to mine here and hopefully there's more of this in the future.
Review: Lie to Me - Grievous Bodily Harm
by Jonathan Toomey, posted Oct 27th 2009 11:37AM

(S02E05) "It's always the popular ones who think they can get away with murder." - Loker
Easily the best episode of Lie to Me to date, I have to wonder -- I can't be the only out there who's just dying to know more about Cal's past, right? Lennie James guest-starred as Terry Marsh, one of Cal's old crime pals and his arrival created so many questions that have just pushed aside anything else going on at The Lightman Group. Unless Gillian or Loker turn out to be serial killers from past lives, nothing else really matters right now besides Cal's history.
