Lisa Kudrow Talks About Her Vassar Commencement Address With Regis and Kelly (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 15th 2011 3:45PM
Lisa Kudrow on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'Lisa Kudrow isn't an idiot, but she used to play one on TV. She spoke Friday on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated) about returning to her alma matter Vassar College to give the school's commencement address last year, despite the fact that her most well-known character, Phoebe from 'Friends,' may not be the best embodiment of a Vassar education.

"I apologized to all the parents in the audience that you have this person who played who played an idiot on a sitcom sending your children into their future," said Kudrow. Kelly Ripa pointed out that it takes a smart person to play an idiot convincingly, and Kudrow agreed.

Husband Gets Lessons in Romance on Regis and Kelly's 'Fix My Man Week' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 14th 2011 3:35PM
Vincent and Barbara Froehlich on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'It's that time of year again: "Fix My Man Week" has arrived on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated). On Thursday's edition, Vincent Froehlich learned to put a little more romance into his 18-year-old marriage with his wife Barbara.

To Vincent, it's seemed like longer. Or at least he was caught on camera erroneously saying he and Barbara were approaching their 19th anniversary. That's a big no-no, but Barbara told Dr. Robi Ludwig that Vincent was actually a pretty good husband, he just needed a little help. "He's a great cook," said Barbara. "He cleans the house. He mows the lawn. But there's absolutely no romance."

Ludwig helped Vincent out, and Barbara got that candlelight dinner she was looking for. The happy couple showed off the photos of their romantic New York vacation to prove it. Regis Philbin asked directly, "Have we solved a problem, here?" and Vincent said yes, "They have gone above and beyond." Now if they can only get Barbara to mow the lawn sometimes ... but hey, that's a different show.

Glenn Close Previews 'Damages' Season 4 on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 13th 2011 5:30PM
Glenn Close talks about 'Damages' on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'There's an old adage in show business that advises actors to never to work with animals or kids. Well, on 'Damages,' Glenn Close plays lawyer Patty Hewes, who is kind of an animal. And on season four, which kicks off Wednesday on DirectTV, Close works with a kid when Hewes is left to take care of her granddaughter. Close previewed the new season Wednesday on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated).

Regis and Kelly wanted to know if having a little child around would soften Hewes. "I think in some ways, yes," said Close. "Because if anybody knows her back story, she did, she had a little girl that she lost. So I think that has to bring up, you know, some thoughts."

Emma Watson talks about her post 'Harry Potter' career on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'The last installment of the 'Harry Potter' series, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2,' opens Friday, which means Emma Watson is officially finished with her duties as Hermione. Watson said Tuesday on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated) that she once thought she might not end up in the entertainment industry after 'Potter,' but now feels like she just graduated from "the most incredible film school," and is excited about continuing her career as an actress.

Watson was reassured acting was the path she wants to continue on after shooting the just-completed film 'The Perks of Being A Wallflower.' "I just had the best time," she said. "And, you know, having an experience outside of 'Potter' that was just as great kind of solidified for me that acting is really what I wanted to do and really focus on."

Krya Sedwick talks about the final season of 'The Closer' on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'Kyra Sedgwick plays the often frazzled Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, the title role on 'The Closer.' Monday night marks the premiere of show's final season, and Sedgwick said on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated), that things will get worse for her character before they get better.

Regis Philbin set up a clip by saying Johnson was "really getting frustrated about the way things are going at the department, but that's always been, more or less, her little angst, right?"

"She really gets hammered this season," said Sedgwick. "It'll be good."

Kelly Fools Regis With Fake Firefly (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 8th 2011 4:00PM
The fake firefly (and Regis Philbin's dirty fingernails) on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'Kelly Ripa said Friday on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated) that she had done a thoughtful thing for co-host Regis Philbin. She said she had caught a firefly for him in her backyard, and even had the studio lights dimmed so she could show him the critter trapped in a jar. But it turned out to be all lies.

Philbin was suspicious when the firefly shone its green light. He said he'd never seen one like that and asked if anyone in the audience had. "He's turned on by you, what can I say," said Ripa. But even when he called for a close-up with the lights on, Philbin didn't realize he was holding a jar with a fake firefly. "Look at this guy," he said. "He's really interesting. Can you see him here close up? He knows what's going on. 'Hi, Regis, how ya doing?' he's saying."

That's when Ripa let him off the hook and revealed it was a battery-operated firefly with an LED light you can buy for $14.95, if you're intent on fooling your friends into thinking you have a firefly and have fifteen bucks to spend on the mission.

Larry David marks his territory in a photo with Regis Philbin and his wife on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'Wednesday, Regis Philbin fulfilled a long-held dream when Larry David appeared on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated). Regis was still gushing about the experience Thursday, so much so that Kelly Ripa called him out on his man-crush.

"I admire his writing ability and his comedic ability," said Philbin. "No," Ripa admonished. "You're in love with him." Philbin said David was great and that maybe he had a little crush, but Ripa wouldn't budge, saying, "No, you're crushing on him. You have a crush." Philbin explained that these things sometimes happen to men.

'Hand Test' Gives Regis Confidence With Rose Byrne (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 5th 2011 4:10PM
Regis Philbin shows his hand test off to Rose Byrne on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'The so-called "Hand Test" was a popular topic for discussion Tuesday morning. Kathie Lee and Hoda administered the test to the 'Today' crew, and then Kelly Ripa gave the test to Regis Philbin on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated). The test supposedly indicates that men with ring fingers longer than their index fingers are more well-endowed, and the Reeg scored favorably.

After learning the good news, Philbin couldn't help but show off a little for guest Rose Byrne ('Bridesmaids,' 'X-Men: First Class'). After noting that she was single, Regis asked her about the men in her native Australia, but then quickly offered his own opinion. "Well, I think they're pretty vigorous, although, have you seen this," said Philbin, smiling and holding up his hand.

Regis Creeps Out Kelly (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 30th 2011 2:35PM
Regis Philbin would like to take Kelly Ripa hostage on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'Regis Philbin has been letting himself get a little creepy as he heads toward retirement, ogling photos of Rosie Huntington-Whitely and pausing a bit too long thinking about Jennifer Lawrence's nude make-up preparation for 'X-Men: First Class.' You'd think his co-host, Kelly Ripa, would be used to it by now. But Thursday on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated), Philbin made a comment that legitimately creeped Ripa out.

The conversation was about a three-hour standoff at a liquor store in Brooklyn Wednesday, in which an armed man took hostages before being surrounded by police and eventually surrendering. "If you're going to be held hostage," joked Ripa, "a liquor store isn't a bad option."

Regis Gets Flustered by 'Transformers' Actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 28th 2011 2:00PM
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Regis Philbin, and Kelly Ripa on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'Like a lot of men around the country, Regis Philbin has found himself rather taken with Maxim's most recent cover subject, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Tuesday on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated), Philbin openly ogled the photos in the magazine, and then got flustered when she came out on the set for an interview.

Kelly Ripa asked if Philbin thought Huntington-Whietley were looking at him in her pictures. "I don't think she's looking at me, but I know she's thinking of me," Philbin joked. Shortly thereafter, Ripa got to ask Huntington-Whiteley if she had, in fact, been thinking of Philbin. "That's what got me in the mood for all of this," she said. "I had some pictures in my dressing room of you."

That was apparently too much for Philbin to take, who momentarily lost his composure. "You look... pretty... just fine," he said. Ripa said she'd never seen Philbin like this, and Regis begged for a break, joking that he hadn't slept all night. Huntington-Whiteley probably should have taken the magazine with her when she left the studio, if only so Philbin could concentrate on the rest of the shows this week.

Regis and Kelly Give Their Retroactive Emmy Acceptance Speeches (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 27th 2011 7:15PM
Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa hold their Emmys on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa have occasionally mentioned the lack of Emmy recognition for 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated). That was remedied June 19 when the pair won Outstanding Talk Show Host at the Daytime Emmys (in a tie with Dr. Oz'). On Monday's show, Philbin and Ripa appeared with their Emmys in hand, and announced they would withdraw their names from future consideration. Which is of course a moot point because Philbin is retiring later this year.

Philbin and Ripa were not at the ceremony. "Quite frankly, you get beat down after decades of losing these things," Ripa said by way of an excuse. Philbin and Ripa described what they would have said had they been there. "I would have said, 'Academy, what took you so long?'" said Philbin.

The pair would have thanked each other, they said, and would have been sure to thank executive producer Michael Gelman, as well. "Otherwise there'd be, you know, hell to pay around here," said Philbin.

Who's Replacing Regis Philbin? Ryan Seacrest, Andy Cohen, Mark Consuelos on Short List

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jun 20th 2011 6:10AM
Regis PhilbinEver since Regis Philbin announced his impeding retirement live on-air back in January, speculation's been rife as to who will replace him on 'Live! With Regis and Kelly.'

Now one report says that the morning show's distributors, Disney-ABC Domestic Television, have narrowed the field to just three candidates.

According to 'The Wall Street Journal,' those candidates are: TV hosts Ryan Seacrest ('American Idol') and Andy Cohen ('Watch What Happens Live'), and co-host Kelly Ripa's husband, actor and TV host Mark Consuelos ('All My Children').

In contrast to the 79-year old Philbin, they're all relatively young, with Cohen the oldest at age 43. All three are veterans of hosting live TV, and both Cohen and Consuelos have filled in for Philbin recently.

The 'WSJ' reports that producers plan to reboot 'Live!' once Philbin steps down in November. So who's got the edge?

Betty White Co-Hosts 'Regis and Kelly,' Brings Bevy of One-Liners (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 14th 2011 12:15PM
Regis Philbin and Betty White on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'If you've been suspecting that Betty White has an evil plot to take over television, you got some confirmation Tuesday morning when she co-hosted 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated). Sitting next to Regis Philbin at the table where Kelly Ripa usually sits, the first thing she said was, "Well, I finally got rid of Kelly. It wasn't easy."

During the usual morning conversation, White played the role of charming comedienne to perfection. Regis asked if White was still dating, and warned her against the old geezers that might come calling. "They're not that old," quipped White. Had she heard about the Anthony Weiner controversy? "Heard about it? I had his picture framed."

As for the one role you'd think White wasn't offered, 'Spider-Man' on Broadway, White said she turned down because it was too dangerous. "I have great legs, but not enough of them," she joked.

Kelly Schools Regis in Summer Health Quiz (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 9th 2011 3:25PM
Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa take a summer health quiz on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'If you see Regis Philbin out in the sun this summer, you may want to offer him a glass of water. Judging from his poor showing on the "Summer Health Quiz" on Thursday's 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated) he needs all the heat-related help he can get.

Philbin and Kelly Ripa took the quiz, administered by Doctor Greg Yapalater. Ripa did well on the series of true or false statements mainly by looking at what Philbin answered and choosing the opposite. One statement was, "Heat related illness can only strike when it's extremely hot outside." Philbin answer yes, Ripa no. "Dehydration sets in, next thing you know, you're answering 'true' to a false question," she joked.

Even when Regis thought he had a right answer, he got it wrong. Dr. Yapalater incorrectly congratulated Philbin for his answer to a question about over the counter drugs, and had to reverse himself.

Animals Invade 'Live With Regis and Kelly' for World Ocean Day (VIDEO)

Regis Philbin tosses food to a pelican on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa celebrated World Ocean Day Wednesday on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated) with animal expert Chuck Cureau and a host of guests from Busch Gardens and Sea World. They got to interact with clams and an alligator, although there's only so much you can do with a clam and only so much you'd want to do with an alligator.

Philbin showed his extensive clam knowledge, correctly guessing that clams are hermaphroditic (please don't Google that). He also got to toss food to a pelican named Ginger. The alligator creeped out Ripa. "He's really eye-balling us," she said as it stared down her and Philbin.

Of course, it wouldn't be an animal segment without poop, this time provided by a Chilean flamingo, which give a kind of croak before dabbing the floor. "An anointing!" Ripa shouted, with a "ta-da!" wave of her arms.
