'The Amazing Race' Winners Reflect On Their Journey (VIDEO)

by Stephanie Opella, posted Dec 12th 2011 8:15PM
After winning the $1 million prize on 'The Amazing Race,' Ernie Halvorsen and Cindy Chiang dropped in on 'Live!' (weekdays, syndicated on on ABC) to tell Kelly and guest-host Taye Diggs about what it was like to compete in, and ultimately win the competition that took them on a global adventure.

Kelly asked the engaged couple whose idea it was to go on the show. "It was her idea," Ernie said, and Cindy elaborated. "When we first started dating he was like, 'Oh, let's go out to dinner,' and I was like 'No, we have to watch the show.'" Ernie talked about the regimen that Cindy, a self-professed type-A personality, created for the couple to prepare for the competition.

Kelly Ripa Humbly Requests That Derek Hough Never Wear a Shirt Again (VIDEO)

by Stephanie Opella, posted Dec 5th 2011 6:30PM
In her search for a new 'Live!' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) co-host, Kelly Ripa was coupled Monday with 'Dancing With the Stars' pro Derek Hough. Although Hough failed to take home the Mirror Ball Trophy this season for the first time in 'DWTS' tenure, he still had a pretty good year. 'People' named him one of their Sexiest Men Alive, and Kelly just so happened to have a copy of the magazine on hand.

In Hough's photo-spread, he's hanging shirtless from a steel beam with his pants looking like they're about to fall off. Kelly shook the magazine and did her best Regis impression, yelling, "C'mon! Everything is defying gravity, darn it!"

Maya Rudolph and Kelly Ripa Have an 'Oprah-Off' (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Dec 2nd 2011 3:00PM
Maya Rudolph's been trying to tell people for months that her 'Up All Night' character Ava, who just so happens to be a flight talk show host, isn't a re-imagining of her famous 'SNL' Oprah impression. But Friday on 'Live!' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC), at the behest of guest-host Neil Patrick Harris, Rudolph and Kelly Ripa broke out their dueling Oprah impersonations for an 'Oprah-Off.'

Rudolph started off the competition by announcing a fake audience giveaway that would make Snooki proud. "Today, we're giving away ... pickles!!" she exclaimed, as the audience cheered wildly. Ripa followed up with, "You get a pickle, and you get a pickle and you get a pickle," and got some feedback from Rudolph on her impression.

The Month That Made Me Love Kelly Ripa

by Maggie Furlong, posted Dec 2nd 2011 2:00PM
Kelly RipaKelly Ripa is cute and fashionable and does a helluva job making me believe I need shiny new energy efficient appliances in my home. But still, I've never really been a fan. Until now.

Yes, TV people, this was the month that made me love Kelly Ripa. She's now charming audiences sans Regis every morning with a roundup of guest co-hosts for 'Live! With Kelly' that makes me think someone's picking names out of a deep and diverse celebrity-filled hat over there. And you know what? The chemistry is totally there, with all of them.

But that's not what turned the tides and made me see the bright, talk show host light about Kelly Ripa. Here are just a few recent examples of her media perfection, in and outside of her 'Live!' day job.

NPH and Kelly Ripa Inhale Sulfur Hexafluoride, Get Hilariously Deep Voices (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Dec 1st 2011 2:35PM
Everybody knows that inhaling Helium will give you a temporarily high voice and make you sound like Pee-wee Herman. Today on 'Live!' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) Kelly Ripa and guest-host Neil Patrick Harris demonstrated the inverse scientific effect. They had on Science Expert Bob, who came carrying a canister of Sulfur Hexafluoride, a chemical gas that makes your voice hilariously deep.

Bob filled each host up a balloon, and when Harris asked if it was dangerous, Bob could only reply, "Okay, let's do it." Things got pretty entertaining after they inhaled, as they each launched into movie quotes fitting their newly baritone voices. Kelly went to 'Star Wars,' quoting "Luke, I am your Father," while NPH went with a slightly darker reference. "It puts the lotion in the basket," he said, quoting Buffalo Bill from 'Silence of the Lambs.' After that, they burst out in laughter and pretended to be addicted to the stuff.

Neil Patrick Harris Sneaks a Kiss From Betty White (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Nov 29th 2011 12:30PM
Yesterday, 'Live! With Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) guest-host and 'How I Met Your Mother Star' Neil Patrick Harris joked that he wanted to make out with Betty White. On Tuesday he got his chance, as the 89-year-old comedienne stopped by 'Live' in advance of the 'Hot in Cleveland' Season 3 premiere (Wed., Nov. 30 at 10PM ET on TV Land.)

The two talked about a potential White 'HIMYM' cameo that never came to be. Before White's late-career resurgence, Harris wanted White to guest-star on the show as sexy cougar that his character Barney Stinson would hook up with. White shared that she was thrilled after getting a call from a 'HIMYM' producer asking her to be on an episode, but never heard back about it.

To make up for the missed opportunity, Harris asked White for a kiss on the cheek. When she leaned in, he turned his face around snuck one on the lips. Something tells us she didn't mind.

Kelly Ripa Gets Raunchy in 'Live' Thanksgiving Gadget Segment (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Nov 23rd 2011 1:15PM
Over the past few years, Kelly Ripa was often Regis Philbin's voice of reason, reeling in the old cad when he went too far off the deep end. But now that he's gone, Ripa's letting it all hang out. In a 'Live! With Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) segment spotlighting some wacky Thanksgiving gadgets, Ripa donned a red-wine-filled bra and joked about a possible alternate use for a Robo-Stirrer.

As resident technology expert David Pogue introduced the Robo-Stirrer, which can robotically stir a pot as it simmers. "Once you take off the soup, it makes a "darn fine back-massager," he said, to which Kelly jokingly replied, "Allright ladies, well I think we all know what's that code for." Pogue was horrified, yelling out, "Oh my god!" and even Jerry Seinfeld seemed taken aback. All the comedian could muster was, "That's the first time someone in Manhattan has said 'darn fine,' but let's keep going."

Jerry Seinfeld Asks New Yorkers Who Should Replace Regis (VIDEO)

by Stephanie Opella, posted Nov 21st 2011 5:30PM
Today began a new era in daytime TV, as 'Live With Regis and Kelly' became 'Live With Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) in the wake of Regis Philbin's retirement. Kelly was joined by Jerry Seinfeld, who's serving as her temporary co-host. "I feel very honored that you invited me ... to be the first person to be part of Operation Smooth Transition," he said early in the show. And although Regis' absence has left 'Live' with an identity crisis, Seinfeld, at least today, capably filled the void.

But the question of Kelly's permanent co-host still needs to be answered. Jerry took to the streets, hoping the people of New York might have the answer, but everyone he asked suggested he take the job permanently. "Who that we could afford?" he quipped. When the next person insisted that he would be a good fit, Jerry jokingly caved. "Alright, I'll take it."

It's Regis Philbin's Last Day on 'Live!' -- Now He Wants to Host 'SNL'

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 18th 2011 7:45AM
Today is Regis Philbin's last day co-hosting 'Live! With Regis and Kelly,' but it seems as though thoughts of retirement are still far from the 80 year-old's mind. Talking to reporters after Thursday's show he said "I feel pretty good," but he did admit that he may not feel quite so good next week when the show carries on without him.

"I wasn't looking forward to this moment," said Philbin. "You never are in your life when you're leaving a success that you worked your tail off to make." However, the hardest working man in television won't be idle for long. He's embarking next week on a US book tour to promote his new memoir, 'How I Got This Way,' and he's already been toying with the idea of making his own reality show.

However, he told 'The New York Times' that what he'd really, really like to do is host 'Saturday Night Live.' Saying it would be "irresistible" if he got the call, Philbin quipped "It's come up in my mind, but not theirs. I think the audience for that show would rather have some young guy playing a vampire somewhere."
