Kyra Sedgwick Found Out She's Distantly Related to Husband Kevin Bacon (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 15th 2011 5:00AM
Kyra Sedgwick, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Kyra Sedgwick always wins when playing "The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" because she's married to him. But she inadvertently found out something else about him when she participated in a show with Henry Louis Gates Jr. that traced her lineage back 200 years, as she revealed on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS).

It was all fun and games when she found out she was distant cousins with the likes of Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon and even Marilyn Monroe. "I can see the resemblance," Sedgwick smiled.

But she also found out she was a 10th cousin once removed of one Kevin Bacon. So she's married and related by blood, albeit just marginally, to Kevin Bacon. Now no one will ever be able to beat her at that game!

Tom Hanks Declares Kevin Bacon the Best Smelling Actor (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 30th 2011 3:13AM
Tom Hanks, 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'When you talk to celebrities multiple times as the host of your own late night show, sometimes it's fun to just ask the most inane questions you can think of. Craig Ferguson has built a whole show around it.

But it was Jon Stewart on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) who asked Tom Hanks the following question.

"In your experience, and I think this is very important, the best smelling actor that you've worked with?"

It was Hanks' own fault for saying that Julia Roberts smelled great in their current project, 'Larry Crowne.' But it wasn't Roberts he declared the best smelling.

Kevin Bacon & Bethenny Frankel, 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'Thanks to the sale of her Skinny Girl Magarita brand, Bethenny Frankel went from being broke to being on the 'Forbes' 100 richest celebrities list. On 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC), she described the whole situation as crazy and surreal.

"I just am wiping my behind with dollar bills now," Frankel said of the $100 million deal. "It's just a little abrasive and I'm getting used to it."

"I'm always lookin for a gig," he replied gamely.

Kevin Bacon Got a Little Freaked Out When He Was Pulled Over for Speeding (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 26th 2011 4:30AM
Kevin Bacon, 'Late Show with David Letterman'There are advantages and disadvantages to being a celebrity. In a story he related on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), we're not sure which was the case with Kevin Bacon. He was travelling cross-country with his two dogs when he got pulled over.

Bacon admitted that both times he got pulled over on this trip, he'd been speeding. But was it the speeding that got him pulled over the time he went into detail about, or was it his fame?

As Bacon explained it, the officer had him come back and sit in the police cruiser while he ran background checks and everything. While there he asked if Bacon knew why he'd been pulled over. Bacon admitted to the speeding and apologized, but the officer responded as if they were talking about something else entirely.

Craig Ferguson Uncomfortable With Ellen Page's Character in 'Super' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 7th 2011 4:52AM
Ellen Page, 'The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson'Something unexpected happened on 'The Late Late Show' (Weeknights, 12:35 AM ET on CBS). A guest actually talked about the project they were there to promote. Even more shocking, it was Craig Ferguson who made sure they got the chance to do it. Then, he looked uncomfortable the whole time Ellen Page was describing 'Super.'

He got a little animated at one point when she mentioned that Kevin Bacon was in the film. After all that makes Page "One Degree of Separation" from Kevin Bacon. "So there you are, you've got your Kevin Bacon #1," he said. "Good for you."

But she lost him completely when she described her own character as "a bit of a psychopath, and a little bit of a sexual predator."

Kevin Bacon Plays Kevin Bacon's Biggest Fan in New Ad

by Joel Keller, posted Dec 2nd 2010 3:00PM
Kevin Bacon plays Kevin Bacon's biggest fan in a new Logitech adKevin Bacon is not one of those movie stars that's above doing TV ads for American audiences; he did a really funny "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon"-themed ad for Visa in the early '00s and he got repeatedly rejected by Michael Jordan in a Hanes ad.

But there, Kevin was playing "famous actor Kevin Bacon." In this new ad for the new Google TV device from Logitech, Bacon takes it one step further, playing Kevin Bacon's biggest fan.

If this were just a random actor playing the 'Footloose' star's biggest fan, proudly displaying his needlepoint portraits of Bacon while surrounded by posters of his movies, the ad would be creepy. But because Bacon plays the guy, it feels even more creepy.

But, you know what? It's so creepy that it's circled back to being funny again. The ad and more after the jump.

'Bored to Death': Ray Accidentally Punches Kevin Bacon in the Nose (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Oct 25th 2010 5:09AM
'Bored to Death' -- Ray Accidentally Punches Kevin Bacon in the NoseIn a sense, all the characters on 'Bored to Death' (Sun., 10PM ET on HBO) are leading a double-life. For instance, even mopey author Jonathan Ames (Jason Schwartzman) enjoys a second career as a secret private eye. But even on this show, Ray Hueston (Zack Galifianakis) is a special case. Ray is an artist who draws his own comic book -- starring himself as a character called "Super Ray."

Now, at last, there is major excitement about Ray's art -- when actor Kevin Bacon arrives and displays an interest in portraying "Super Ray" in a film version of the comic. Everything could finally be working out for real-life Ray -- if he can avoid messing things up.

Then, Ray's sometime lover Jennifer (Kristen Wiig) shows up, and begins berating Ray while standing in the middle of a bar. Ray takes the abuse -- until he can't take it for a single second longer. A bartender wants to toss Ray out, and in anger, the artist pulls his arm back ... and accidentally punches Kevin Bacon in the nose. Not good.

by Chris Harnick, posted Oct 5th 2010 6:00PM
Jonathan GroffRyan Murphy is at it again. He's talking 'Glee' every chance he gets, only this time it's on a subject we care about: Jonathan Groff's return.

The 'Glee' boss told E! Online that Groff won't be around soon. "Jon Groff is definitely coming back next year," Murphy said. "Next calendar year. He's not available until January, but he'll be in the back [nine] episodes of this season."

As for the hyped post-Super Bowl episode, Murphy said he doesn't want to do something people expect. Rumors have swirled around Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and Prince, but Murphy told E! that he doesn't know what he wants.

Cast members also told E! that they heard Murphy was planning an episode to respond to the recent gay suicide epidemic.

In other TV news ...

Ron Moore is reportedly working on a reboot of 'The Wild Wild West.' The man responsible for Syfy's successful 'Battlestar Galactica' reboot is said to be in the early stages of writing a new version of the 1960s western. Too early to name networks or pretty much anything. [Ausiello Files]

HBO is developing a new comedy with Kevin Bacon. The actor, who is executive producing, may also star on the country club comedy based on Clint McCown's book, 'Member-Guest.' [Deadline Hollywood]

Is a 'Modern Family' musical episode on the way? If it is, Julie Bowen doesn't want to be a part of it. The cast recently took the stage a charity event with Bowen as host, but don't expect the star to belt a tune soon. While she said many of the other actors are musically inclined, she is not. "I could be in a coma and be imagining the whole thing in my head," she said. "It's an option." [TV Guide]

Kevin Bacon Talks Winning Over Kyra Sedgwick (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Feb 17th 2010 3:00PM
According to Kevin Bacon, it wasn't easy winning over Kyra Sedgwick when they first met on the set of the 1988 made-for-TV movie 'Lemon Sky.' Sedgwick thought Bacon was "cocky," when in fact he was just nervous and unsure how to approach her, he said on 'The Rachael Ray Show' (weekdays, syndicated).

"I had to really fight my way in there. It was a real challenge," Bacon said. "I don't think she was all that into actors necessarily. She just thought I was a jerk."

Michael C. Hall, Mad Men score Golden Globe awards

Mad Men, Golden Globes 2010
Did your favorite actors and TV shows score Golden Globe awards tonight? Let's take a look at how things shook out in the TV categories at the 67th Annual Golden Globes.

Mad Men, Best Television Series - Drama.
With competition from Big Love, Dexter, House, and True Blood, I'm really glad I wasn't picking the winner here. They're all fantastic. I wouldn't say that True Blood delivered its best episodes last season, so I don't have a problem with that one not winning (though I'm a big fan of the show). Mad Men is definitely deserving (especially the "lawn mower" episode), although Dexter and Big Love both had great seasons.

Beau Bridges on His Guest Role as a Transsexual Cop on 'The Closer'

by Leonard Jacobs, posted Dec 11th 2009 5:50PM
Beau Bridges' upcoming guest spot on 'The Closer,' airing Mon., Dec. 14, 9PM on TNT, will fascinate fans of the longtime actor. He plays Det. George Andrews, former partner of G.W. Bailey's crusty and hard-edged Lt. Provenza. About a decade has gone by since they last saw each other and much has changed -- including Det. Andrews' sex change.

The context for the episode involves the Major Crimes Unit reopening an old case in which Det. Andrews figured in prominently. That means Provenza isn't just dealing with Andrews' news but doing so publicly -- to the delight, maybe, of Kyra Sedgwick's Brenda, who is only too happy to forget her own low-simmer turmoil with Jon Tenney's Fritz.

The Closer: Waivers of Extradition (summer season finale)

by Allison Waldman, posted Aug 25th 2009 1:34AM
Brenda_TNT_The_Closer(S05E12) Kind of like the summer season finale for Burn Notice, it seemed like they saved the best for last with The Closer. There was an interesting case, a colorful new character to go nose to nose with Brenda, and an up tick in the action, including a chase that was top notch. Kudos to Kevin Bacon who directed the episode and brought it all together.

For a time, it looked like Brenda and Major Crimes were on the trail of a ninja. No, not a real ninja, but a guy dressed all in black who kind of looked like a ninja. He used a blade, albeit a knife, and he was a stone cold killer who showed no mercy and seemed to take pleasure in the kill.

The Closer: Smells Like Murder

One of the reasons The Closer is a good show is that it's smart. It presents challenging situations and complicated crimes, and as Brenda and her crew figure out what happened and how to get the guilty to incriminate themselves, the viewer is along for the ride. The title of tonight's show was Smells Like Murder. I think the subhead should have been, smells like a dud.

There was a good premise, a decent set up, suspects that were interesting ... all the elements were there. What went wrong was character. Things happened that were so out of character that it sunk the entire episode. More on that -- and Jack in the box -- after the jump.

Kyra's doing wonders for orange juice

by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 23rd 2009 4:29PM
Bacon and SedgwickOn The Closer, Kyra Sedgwick rarely gets the chance to dance. She plays a homicide detective in Los Angeles, for goodness sake! But as the harried Brenda Leigh Johnson, the actress didn't even share a waltz with her new TV hubby Fritz after their wedding on the season finale last winter.

However, have you seen Kyra strut her stuff in this new orange juice commercial? Not only is the commercial terrific, it's a little bit of an homage to Kyra's real life husband, actor-director Kevin Bacon.

'Taking Chance' Interview With Kevin Bacon

by Maggie Furlong, posted Feb 19th 2009 6:00AM
"We don't have like Kevin Bacon Movie Night, where the family sits around with a big bowl of popcorn and 'Tremors.'"

Kevin Bacon is everywhere these days -- but for the man who's the origin of the infamous "Six Degrees" game, what do you expect?

His latest project is 'Taking Chance' (premieres Sat., Feb. 21, 8PM on HBO), a Sundance Grand Jury Prize-nominated movie based on a true story. Bacon plays Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, a decorated Desert Storm vet who volunteers to escort the remains of a young Marine, Chance Phelps, back to his hometown to be laid to rest.

Bacon chatted with AOL TV about his back-to-back military roles, his advice for Zac Efron, his most random Six Degrees connection ... and the downside to being famous. -- By Maggie Furlong
