Kirstie Alley: Before She Was Famous (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted May 21st 2011 9:00AM
Kirstie AlleyKirstie Alley is back in the spotlight with her 'Dancing With the Stars' success and that organic diet product she's shilling. But with all the ups and downs of her almost 30 year career in Hollywood (and her weight), we thought it'd be fun to look back at Kirstie before she was famous.

Imagine a time way back in the day -- a glorious time right around 1980.

Ugly clothing, bad hair and wannabe actors coming to Hollywood with a hope, a prayer and the belief that just being on TV, no matter the show, would get you "noticed."

Hence, the hot game show circuit, teeming with celebs in the making who were given the chance to play silly games with illustrious (and actually famous) people such as Betty White, Lucille Ball, Charles Nelson Riley and Jamie Lee Curtis, among other comedic game show staples.

'DWTS' Backstage Q&A: Kym Johnson's 'Never Been So Scared'; Ralph Macchio Says No Finale, No 'Karate Kid' Tribute

by Michael Maloney, posted May 17th 2011 7:00AM
Kym Johnson and Hines WardThis season of 'Dancing With the Stars' has proved that you don't need polarizing reality stars, manufactured romances between celebrities and dancers, or other contrived stuff to make a compelling two hours of television on Monday nights.

The heart-stopping neck injury suffered by fan favorite Kym Johnson during rehearsal last week, judge Bruno Tonioli's censored remark to Karina Smirnoff and host Tom Bergeron's lightning fast ad-libs are providing enough drama, gasps and laughs to keep the veteran series more popular than ever.

Alas, one couple will be going home tonight and, despite Ralph Macchio earning the lowest score, there's no guarantee it will be him. The actor's vocal fan base has already voted him through one likely elimination.

TV Squad talked to the semi-finalist pairs on the post-show press line last night to get their thoughts on Monday's performance show and taking part in arguably the most competitive season of 'DWTS' so far.

by Michael Maloney, posted May 11th 2011 7:00AM
Tom Bergeron, Brooke Burke, Romeo, Chelsie HightowerIt's always bittersweet leaving 'Dancing With the Stars,' especially right before the semi-finals. But rapper/actor Romeo, who was sent packing last night, can still hold his head up high. He and partner Chelsie Hightower gave impressive performances throughout the season.

It looked like Ralph Macchio and his partner Karina Smirnoff might be going home after an injury he received had contributed to them earning low scores from the judges on Monday. But 'The Karate Kid's fans rallied to support him and he survived to dance another day.

Romeo and Hightower walked the post-show press line to talk about their journey, and the four finalists -- Macchio, Kirstie Alley, Hines Ward and Chelsea Kane -- shared their hopes of taking home the coveted mirror ball trophy. Also, fan favorite Alley confided to TV Squad the real reason she wants to emerge as this season's victor.

by Jason Hughes, posted May 11th 2011 12:40AM
Week 8 Elimination, 'Dancing with the Stars'If it were solely up to the judges on 'Dancing with the Stars' (Tue., 8PM ET on ABC), Ralph Macchio would have been eliminated last night. Dancing through a knee injury, the former 'Karate Kid' star racked up 46 points from the panel across two performances, while the other four competitors stacked up from 52 to 55 points.

Luckily for Macchio, there is an audience vote element as it gave him a chance. That said, it was a pretty big hurdle for his fans to overcome. Could they come through? If so, it was going to take a huge movement from his base.

More significantly, it Team Macchio came through and saves their 'Kid,' we'd be left with a virtual toss-up from the other four celebrities. Macchio is incredibly popular on the show. Is he popular enough?

Kirstie Alley Hits New Highs, and Drops an S-Bomb on 'Dancing with the Stars' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 10th 2011 12:49AM
Kirstie Alley, 'Dancing with the Stars'Kirstie Alley got off to a great start on her night with a 28 for the Argentine Tango. That proved to be her best marks of the season, but she didn't sit back and tackled her second performance on 'Dancing with the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC) with as much fervor and conviction.

During Bruno Tonioli's praise, Alley apparently dropped an s-bomb on live television, but the ABC censors caught it. In fact, they got so excited it looked like they tapped the button repeatedly several times.

Alley and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy both clapped their hands over her mouth, but both Tonioli and Tom Bergeron told her it was okay. "That's why we have people on a button," Bergeron explained. "Let them earn their money on the button back there."

Backstage Interviews at 'Dancing With the Stars': Shocker! Romeo's Safe! Kendra Wilkinson on Her Exit!

by Michael Maloney, posted May 4th 2011 7:00AM
Kendra Wilkinson and Louis van Amstel on 'DWTS' ExitEven Romeo thought he and his partner Chelsie Hightower were going home on last night's results show of 'Dancing With the Stars.' But, it turns out that Season 12 is the season in which anyone can be ejected at any time -- even an improved dancer like Kendra Wilkinson, who not only has a huge fan base, but also wasn't in the bottom two in terms of scores from Monday night's show.

After Wilkinson and partner Louis Van Amstel, who she credits for her successful journey, did a final twirl on the dance floor the couple walked the post-show press line.

TV Squad was on the scene to get reactions from the ejected duo and the surviving five pairs, who weighed in on a variety of topics including how and why they've survived and what they need to do to make it to the finals.

It's likely all going to come down to fan bases. The pairs spoke to TV Squad on the post-show press line to discuss what they think of their loyal followers.

Kirstie Alley Eyes Return to Sitcoms With Possible HBO, TV Land Projects

by Chris Harnick, posted Apr 26th 2011 10:30AM
Kirstie AlleyKirstie Alley is eyeing a return to situation comedy with potential projects in the works at TV Land and HBO.

The 'Dancing With the Stars' contestant spilled the beans to AOL TV's Michael Maloney on the 'DWTS' press line last night.

"I have a series being written for me right now that I really love the concept of," Alley told AOL TV. "They're doing it for TV Land and I like those guys. They are really bringing comedy back."

Alley said the TV Land concept is "sort of Virginia Woolf." However, that's not the only iron in the fire. "I have some people writing [a potential series] for me for HBO," she said. "But I really want to do movies."

Alley shot to fame as Rebecca on 'Cheers.' On the big screen she starred in the 'Look Who's Talking Movies' and returned to TV with 'Veronica's Closet' and 'Fat Actress.'

Backstage Interviews at 'Dancing With the Stars': Karina Smirnoff on Her Fall; Maksim Chmerkovskiy Is Not Married

by Michael Maloney, posted Apr 26th 2011 10:05AM
Kendra, Dancing With the StarsKendra Wilkinson's spectacular comeback with her sexy samba may save her for another week on 'Dancing With the Stars.' Fan favorite (and AOL TV blogger) Chris Jericho's tango scored lowest for the night, however, which potentially places the former pro wrestler in jeopardy on tonight's results program.

Monday's performance show contained many surprises, including the first two 10s of the season for Romeo and his pro partner Chelsie Hightower. The competition's other Chelsea -- Chelsea Kane -- earned a 10 with her pro partner Mark Ballas.

There were a pair of mishaps, too, but neither belong to Kirstie Alley. Karina Smirnoff took a brief fall while doing the paso doble with her partner, Ralph Macchio, and Ballas twisted his ankle during dress rehearsal, but he soldiered through with his and Kane's quick step.

AOL TV was on the post-show press line to talk to the remaining contestants, during which time Maksim Chmerkovskiy cleared up those rumors that he's secretly married.

Backstage Interviews at 'Dancing With the Stars': Petra Leaves the Show Happy; Kirstie Says Maks Is 'Sex on a Stick'

by Michael Maloney, posted Apr 20th 2011 7:00AM
Dmitry Chaplin and Petra Nemcova
'Dancing With the Stars' -- the hottest show on TV -- just got a little less hot. Supermodel Petra Nemcova and her equally attractive pro dance partner Dmitry Chaplin were voted off the dance competition reality series last night.

The ousting proves that this season of the show is the most unpredictable. Nemcova recently topped the leader board, but after slipping to a three-way tie for last place this week she became vulnerable. After failing to gain enough votes to remain in the game, she and Chaplin learned their time on the show had come to an end.

Traditionally, models haven't fared well on 'DWTS.' Albert Reed was voted off early in season 5. Joanna Krupa, who arguably should have won season 9, was cut during the semifinals. Nemcova proved she's just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside, however, in her post-show interview in which she and Chaplin reflected on their time on the show and the duo's plans for the future.

If there's a sliver lining to their exit it's that they're not likely to find any embarrassing rehearsal footage of themselves in future video packages in the way Chelsie Hightower, Hines Ward and Maksim Chmerkovskiy did on Tuesday's results show.
