SAG members are talking about a strike
by Allison Waldman, posted Nov 23rd 2008 11:03AM
How's this for happy holiday cheer? The Screen Actors Guild is gearing up to ask members to authorize a strike. Yes, that's right. The actors' union leadership -- headed up by Alan Rosenberg -- is talking tough and threatening another strike. It's been nearly a year since the Writer's Guild strike and the ramifications are still being felt throughout the TV business. An actors strike would be crippling.Currently, SAG is working under a contract that expired on June 30. The WGA strike began on November 5, 2007 and was finally settled on February 12, 2008. Rosenberg and SAG knew how damaging the strike had been, and in the months before June 30, they tried for a settlement. They didn't get it done then, and they've been treading water ever since.
American Idol contestant goes into labor, keeps singing
by Anna Johns, posted Aug 9th 2007 6:02PM
Antoria Gillan really, really wants to be on American Idol. At nine months pregnant, she was auditioning for the show in Dallas earlier this week. Maybe it was all that standing around that contestants have to do... but Antoria went into labor just before it was her turn to sing for the judges. Amazingly, she ignored the contractions and sang her heart out. Then she went directly to the hospital and gave birth to a baby boy she named Jamil Labarron Idol McCowan. He weighed in at 6 pounds, 7 ounces.First of all: good for her for incorporating her unique labor experience into his name in a tasteful way. Second of all: you go girl! Apparently it was worth the pain and suffering, because Antoria got the go-ahead to Hollywood! I'm sure Fox got it all on camera, so expect to see Antoria and baby Jamil next January during auditions highlights.
