Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer Blast Bruno Tonioli for Rude Remarks

by Catherine Lawson, posted Oct 26th 2011 7:15AM
Chaz Bono and Lacey SchwimmerHas Maksim Chmerkovskiy talking back to Len Goodman opened up the floodgates for more dancer vs. judge spats? After the furor surrounding the Maks vs. Len bust-up on 'Dancing With the Stars' Monday, emotions were running high on last night's results show, and the spotlight moved to judge Bruno Tonioli vs. Chaz Bono.

After the show, the newly eliminated Bono and pro dance partner Lacey Schwimmer were gracious in defeat, but had harsh words for Tonioli backstage. And Bono's fiercely protective mother Cher came out swinging on Twitter to lambast the Italian judge.

The reason for all the anger? On Monday Tonioli decribed Bono's 'Phantom of the Opera'-inspired performance as "a cute little penguin trying to be a big menacing bird of prey." Coming after a previous critique when he said watching the pair "was like watching a little Ewok dance with Princess Leia," Schwimmer decided she'd had enough. "He got under scored again," she Tweeted, "and tonights comments were the cherry on top. Having a judge refer to him as an animal every Week is so rude and unnecessary."

Richard Simmons' Appearance on 'Dancing With the Stars' Sparks Health Worries

by Catherine Lawson, posted Oct 12th 2011 6:00AM
Richard Simmons, Chaz Bono, Lacey SchwimmerMonday night saw a surprise cameo from 'Sweatin' to the Oldies' star Richard Simmons on 'Dancing With the Stars' as he put contestant Chaz Bono through his paces for his 'Rocky'-inspired routine.

However, Simmons' noticeably slimmed-down frame, amply showcased by his gold mesh tank top and tiny shorts, sparked fears among many viewers that he may be unwell.

A rep for the fitness guru denied that he's got any health problems. Tom Estey told 'People' that Simmons is "the healthiest he's ever been."

'DWTS' Backstage Report: Ron Artest Talks About Exiting, Will Chaz and Lacey Dance to a Cher Song?

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 21st 2011 7:00AM
Tom Bergeron, Brooke Burke Charvet, Peta Murgatroyd, Ron ArtestIt bites having to leave 'Dancing With the Stars,' especially when you enjoy being there as much as Ron Artest did.

But the pro basketball player focused on the positive after host Tom Bergeron announced on last night's results show that Artest and pro partner Peta Murgatroyd would be the first couple to leave Season 13.

Artest is a lesson to us all in having to embrace a change that we might not be so thrilled about having to make.

The couple earned the lowest score on Monday's show and this was Murgatroyd's first year as a pro dancer so she's yet to build a fan base like veterans Derek Hough, Cheryl Burke and Mark Ballas have. That combination apparently proved to be the duo's undoing.

AOL TV was on the post-show press line to talk to Artest and Murgatroyd about their exit and to some of the remaining participants to get their thoughts on what they need to do to stay in the game.

'DWTS' Backstage Report: Who's Going Home First? Also, Julianne Hough is Returning!

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 20th 2011 7:00AM
'DWTS' 13 CastIt's difficult to predict just who's going to be eliminated on tonight's results show of 'Dancing With the Stars.'

The scores ranged from 14 for pro basketball player Ron Artest (a.k.a. Metta World Peace) to 22 each for singer Chynna Phillips and 'All My Children' actor J.R. Martinez.

Since Artest's pro partner, Peta Murgatroyd, is also new to the show it's not like she's bringing in a lot of votes. Still, pro athletes have always done well on 'DWTS.'

How did the stars and pro dancers think they did? AOL TV was on the post-show press line to get reactions.

Chaz Bono Surprises and Impresses Judges on the 'DWTS' Premiere (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 20th 2011 12:08AM
Lacey Schwimmer & Chaz Bono, 'Dancing With the Stars''Dancing With the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC) producers knew that a lot of people were going to be curious to see how their first transgender contestant fared on the season premiere, so they cleverly saved Chaz Bono and professional partner Lacey Schwimmer for last.

When they finally came out, Bono proved he was a competitor with sheer likability and a spark of potential. While he's nowhere near the best dancer out there, he was graceful on his feet, he was there for his partner, and he showed that he has the drive and passion to improve.

People love to root for someone who shows growth throughout the season, and Bono definitely has room for that. According to Carrie Ann Inaba, though, one area Bono already impressed in was footwork. "It was sharp. It was precise," she said. "You've got so much joy. You light up this room!"

Chaz Bono Says His 'Dancing With the Stars' Training 'Is Going Really Well'

by Catherine Lawson, posted Sep 5th 2011 11:30AM
Lacey Schwimmer and Chaz BonoIt seems as though Chaz Bono has chosen to address his critics by training hard and giving it his all on the 'Dancing With the Stars' dance floor.

Over the weekend Bono Tweeted that "Dancing rehearsal with @LaceySchwimmer is going really well. I had a little breakthrough today and I'm getting all the choreography down."

His pro dance partner Lacey Schwimmer told 'People' that Chaz is working hard and has already dropped six pounds in weight thanks to his hard work and the gruelling regimen known as the 'DWTS' workout plan.

'DWTS' Boss Addresses Chaz Bono Controversy, Cher and Lacey Schwimmer Lend Their Support

by Catherine Lawson, posted Sep 1st 2011 7:10AM
Chaz BonoThe 'Dancing With the Stars' Season 13 premiere is still more than two weeks away, but the controversy surrounding the inclusion of Chaz Bono as the show's first transgender contestant rages on.

Now, the executive producer of 'DWTS' has spoken publicly about the issue, and both Bono's mom, Oscar-winning actress and singer Cher, and his pro dance partner, Lacey Schwimmer, have expressed their support for Bono and their disappointment at the negative reactions.

'DWTS' executive producer Conrad Green addressed allegations from some online commenters that the show is pushing a homosexual agenda. He told 'The Hollywood Reporter' that such charges are unfounded.

"We don't have an agenda of any sorts," said Green. "I think of the 120 celebrities we've put on the show, we've had, I think now, three transgender or gay contestants. If that's a homosexual agenda, we're not doing very well at it."

Even the Pros Fall Sometimes on 'Dancing With the Stars' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 20th 2011 1:24AM
Maksim Chmerkovskiy & Lacey Schimmer fall as Toby Keith performs, 'Dancing with the Stars'For this week's 'Dancing With the Stars' (Tue., 9PM ET on ABC) results show, Toby Keith was on hand to perform 'Should've Been a Cowboy,' his No. 1 hit from his debut album in 1993. But while Keith was flawless in his vocal performance, the same couldn't be said for the featured dancers.

Lacey Schwimmer and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were chosen to perform a cowboy swinging routine to the up-tempo song, and they proved that even the professional dancers have been known to take a tumble from time to time.

It was Chmerkovskiy who infamously dropped Kirstie Alley just a few short weeks ago, so maybe he's just having a tough time hanging onto his partners this season. Hopefully, he's gotten it out of his system, and he and Alley can have another clean performance next week.

Will Mike Catherwood Go From 'Dancing With the Stars' to 'The Bachelor'?

by Michael Maloney, posted Mar 30th 2011 11:30AM
Lacey Schwimmer and Mike CatherwoodIt wasn't too shocking that 'Psycho' Mike Catherwood, a Los Angeles–based disc jockey, was the first celebrity sent packing last night on season 12 of 'Dancing With the Stars.' After all, he earned the lowest combined score after two dances.

His pro partner, Lacey Schwimmer, who went all the way to the finals last season, now finds herself as the first dancer to exit the show. On the plus side, the dancer/singer got to meet Britney Spears last night since she was a guest on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live.' (Ejected stars and dancers are invited to appear on the late-night talk show the night that they're voted off the program.)

Before the couple headed to Hollywood to appear on Kimmel's show, they chatted with TV Squad on the post-show press line to talk about their 'DWTS' experience and plans for the future -- specifically, would Catherwood be the new 'Bachelor' on ABC?

Backstage Interviews at 'Dancing With the Stars': Week Two Elimination Nerves

by Michael Maloney, posted Mar 29th 2011 9:00AM
He may have the best smile, but Mike Catherwood is also the least-known star on season 12 of 'Dancing With the Stars', and his combined score of 30 after two weeks of dancing is the lowest. Can the Los Angeles disc jockey and his partner Lacey Schwimmer evade tonight's elimination on 'DWTS'?

"I have the lowest fan base and lowest score," Catherwood told TV Squad on the post-show press line last night. "If anything keeps us on the show beyond this week we'll have to do things differently. It can't be just, 'Oh, I'll try harder.' We'll have to go back to the drawing board and break it down."

If Catherwood manages to avoid being sent home during tonight's elimination show he'll have Schwimmer to thank. She brings her own fan following, not just from 'DWTS,' but also from 'So You Think You Can Dance' on which she appeared from 2007–08.

Is the Sexual Chemistry Between Lacey Schwimmer and 'Psycho' Mike Catherwood Too Hot for ABC?

by PopEater Staff, posted Mar 27th 2011 3:30PM
Lacey Schwimmer and Psycho MikeLacey Schwimmer and Mike Catherwood might've had the lowest-rated dance on Monday's season premiere of 'Dancing with the Stars,' but their sexual chemistry heated up TV screens so much that ABC is reportedly worried.

"The network [ABC] asked them to tone down the sexual undertones," a source told RadarOnline.com. "They know there is a spark there -- everyone is talking about their amazing chemistry."

"They basically told them to cool it with the sexual tension," the source continued. "But they both just laughed about it."

Backstage Interviews at 'Dancing With the Stars': Week One Was 'Terrifying'

by Michael Maloney, posted Mar 22nd 2011 9:00AM
Karina Smirnoff and Ralph MacchioRalph Macchio, 49, and Kirstie Alley, 60, are two of the older contestants on season 12 of 'Dancing With the Stars,' but after the first night of dancing they took early leads with top scores of, respectively, 24 and 23.

The star of 'The Karate Kid' and his pro partner, Karina Smirnoff, performed a Foxtrot that judge Len Goodman called the best one of the night.

Macchio's an actor; did that play a role in how successfully he embraced his part on the dance floor?

"Yes. Dancing is like acting only you use your body," said Smirnoff. "It allows him tap into the character so much better."

"[Acting] is less painful," joked Macchio. "Less painful."

by Michael Maloney, posted Nov 24th 2010 10:00AM

Nobody -- not even the legion of fans who were keeping Bristol Palin in the competition -- puts Baby in the corner!

Jennifer Grey, who became America's sweetheart back in 1987 as teenager Baby in the film 'Dirty Dancing,' was crowned the season 11 champion of 'Dancing With the Stars' last night.

After the finale, TV Squad spoke to the winner and runners-up Kyle Massey and Bristol Palin; their respective pro partners, Derek Hough, Lacey Schwimmer and Mark Ballas; as well as returning contestants about the rollercoaster that was season 11.

On the 'DWTS' Scene: Who Will Triumph in the 'Dancing With the Stars' Finale'?

by Michael Maloney, posted Nov 23rd 2010 10:10AM

They still have a few more dances to complete before the season 11 mirrorball trophy is handed out on 'Dancing With the Stars,' but the three finalist pairs have performed their highly anticipated freestyle routines.

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough paid homage in their freestyle to a song ('Do You Love Me?') from 'Dirty Dancing,' the classic film from 1987 which Grey starred in opposite the late Patrick Swayze.

Teen activist Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas danced to a tune ('Cell Block Tango') from 'Chicago,' while Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer did a hip hop-inspired freestyle to the '69 Boyz' song 'Tootsee Roll.'

On the 'DWTS' Scene: Brandy Is 'Numb' Over Her Shocking Exit

by Michael Maloney, posted Nov 17th 2010 11:00AM
Mark Ballas, Bristol Palin, Brooke Burke, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Brandy NorwoodSeason 11 of 'Dancing With the Stars' has had more than its share of shocking exits, but none more than Brandy Norwood and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy being sent home on last night's results show.

Many predicted that the singer would advance to the finals, but her surprise departure means that teen activist Bristol Palin, who not only entered the contest with no dance or performing experience but also scored consistently low with the judges, is going to the final round along with actress Jennifer Grey and actor Kyle Massey.

The three finalist duos walked the post-show press line, understandably enthusiastic over their victories, but members of the press had one question on their minds: How has Palin managed to make it to the finals?

"I've known that I've worked hard to get to where I am now," Palin said. "I definitely feel like I'm one of the most improved dancers on the show."
