by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 14th 2011 3:46AM
Barbara Walters, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Barbara Walters joined David Letterman on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on CBS) to discuss her "10 Most Fascinating People of 2011." Letterman mused that he was surprised the Syrian president wasn't on the list, but Donald Trump was.

"Whatever you think of him, the man is fascinating," Walters said. "The day after someone else is elected, Donald Trump is still going to be saying that he's the candidate."

When she asked if he liked the Kardashians, another curious entry, Letterman stammered for a while and finally said, "I'm gonna do you a favor. I'm taking them off the list." Her segment with the Kardashians should be interesting, as Walters interviewed them back in September.

'Late Show': Scarlett Johansson Talks About Her Leaked Nude Photos (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 13th 2011 3:30AM
Scarlett Johansson, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Even though she couldn't explain why she was, Scarlett Johansson found herself laughing about the nude photos of her that leaked online on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS).

"I don't know why I'm laughing, it was terrible," she said.

"On the other hand, a way to look at it is a lovely thing for mankind," David Letterman said.

Johansson did have a big smile when Letterman mentioned that the man responsible for hacking her email account and stealing the pictures could be looking at 100 years or so behind bars.

Charlize Theron Jokes She's Been Recovering From 'Massive Plastic Surgery' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 9th 2011 3:30AM
Charlize Theron, 'Late Show with David Letterman'It's been a while since Charlize Theron graced the cinema screen, though she has started making public appearances more recently. "I took about three years off, kind of," she admitted on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS).

When Letterman asked her what she'd been up to for three years, Theron joked, "I had massive plastic surgery and I needed to heal from it."

"From where I'm sitting, you got your money's worth," he responded, before trying to clarify for the audience that she was just kidding.

"No, I did," she insisted with a smile. "I think you should just be honest about it." Then, gesturing to her entire face she said, "I had everything replaced."

Tom Dreesen on the Perils of Trying to Keep Up With Frank Sinatra (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 8th 2011 4:00AM
Tom Dreeson talks Frank Sinatra, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Tom Dreesen was a groundbreaking comedian in the late 1960s, and wound up as the opening act for Frank Sinatra in later decades. It was an exciting life, but not always an easy one, as he explained on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS).

The biggest challenge for Dreesen, and in fact Sinatra's entire entourage, was the hours Ol' Blue Eyes kept. "Even when we were off the road, he never went to bed until dawn," Dreesen said. "Off the road or on the road, six o'clock in the morning he wanted you to hang with him."

After a particularly grueling cross-country trek, Dreesen finally had had enough for one night, and decided to go to bed. When Sinatra asked him why, he responded, "I got to get up early in the morning and go to the cemetery and visit those guys."

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 7th 2011 2:30AM
Matt Damon, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are big names in Hollywood now, but it wasn't always so. Everyone knows that they broke into the industry together, with their shared Oscar win for the screenplay of 'Good Will Hunting.' On 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), Damon revealed just how committed they were to making acting their career.

Dating back to when they were young teens, the boys set up a joint checking account for the sole purpose of financing trips to New York for auditions. They did commercials locally to fund these trips in the hopes of making it big. They were focused and dedicated to the dream ... well, mostly.

Jonah Hill's Mom Thinks He Knows All the Celebrities (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 6th 2011 3:00AM
Jonah Hill, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Confidence goes a long way in this life. Just as Jonah Hill's mother. He spoke of her on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), specifically about how she's enjoying getting to meet various celebrities now that her son is one of them.

It also helps that she goes into each encounter with the assumption that the celebrity she's meeting not only knows Jonah, but is good friends with him. After all, we always see them smiling and hugging on awards shows. Is it too much to assume that they all hang out together all the time?

We just love the idea of her going up to any random celebrity and saying, "Hi, I'm Jonah's mom!"

Justin Bieber Has a Better Story Than the One About Him Fathering a Child (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 24th 2011 2:00AM
Justin Bieber, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Justin Bieber has a better story than the one Mariah Yeater has been telling about him fathering her child. On 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET On CBS), he said he'd preferred the story be "Justin Bieber ran away with a 20-year old supermodel."

What will Selena Gomez say? She's still only 19!

Bieber also had to school David Letterman on how far medical technology has come. Letterman thought Bieber might have been unconscious when he gave a DNA sample, but it was a simple swab in the cheek.

Letterman Says Penn State Should Have Forfeited Remainder of Season (VIDEO)

Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo, 'Late Show with David Letterman'With Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on CBS), it was no surprise that the conversation quickly found its way to the Penn State controversy surrounding Jerry Sandusky and much of the university's organization.

Russo and David Letterman still, though, struggled to comprehend some of the particulars of the story. Specifically, the parts about the apparent cover-up of Sandusky's actions by members of the school staff, and people's continued involvement with him and his charity.

Ty Burrell Talks About His Dad Embarrassing Him As a Teen on 'Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 22nd 2011 3:15AM
Ty Burrell, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Ty Burrell accepted his Emmy with a story about his father. He seems to have tons of them, and they're all incredibly entertaining. After his latest on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), we're thinking he should write a book about the man. Maybe call it '$#*! My Dad Did' and get CBS to make a show about it ...

It looks like his dad did crazy things to help his son out, too, so it served a purpose. We loved his story about his father wearing a short robe into a hotel lobby to encourage his son to get changed faster after away games as a teen athlete.

Nothing embarrasses a teen more than their parents, and we can only imagine the added horror of the robe. Wonder if there'll be a run on those from parents irritated by their own teenagers looking for ways to get them in line?

Regis Philbin, 'Late Show with David Letterman'The Regis Philbin Farewell Tour made its way to the Ed Sullivan Theater and 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS). He told David Letterman that he wasn't sad about leaving 'Live! with Regis and Kelly.'

"It's a chapter coming to an end, and it should," Philbin said. "You know, there's a time in your life -- and you better start thinking about this, big boy -- when you realize you should walk away."

He then suggested that Letterman walk away with him. They could retire together and walk out together. But not before Philbin gets another kiss on the lips.

Jerry Seinfeld Talks About Filling In for Regis Philbin (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 17th 2011 4:30AM
Jerry Seinfield, 'Late Show with David Letterman'While there's yet to be any decision made on a permanent replacement for Regis Philbin after his retirement, Jerry Seinfield was chosen as the first fill-in co-host with Kelly Ripa. On 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), he dubbed it 'Operation: Smooth Transition.'

That said, though, Seinfeld isn't completely confident that he can fill the role. First of all, both he and Letterman acknowledge that Philbin is an institution, but there's something more specific that both Philbin does that Seinfeld says he can't.

"He sits there and ... he just kind of takes up people's time," he explained. "But you do it in a way that people say, 'I could take more of this.'"

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 16th 2011 3:00AM
Bill Maher, 'Late Show'Bill Maher's session with the women of 'The View' didn't go exactly to plan, thanks to Elisabeth Hasselbeck appearing to hold a grudge for an old joke he made about her. It made for such an uncomfortable moment, that David Letterman asked Maher about it on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS).

"I was abused. I felt like a teenage boy at Penn State," Maher quipped to a stunned crowd. But while Letterman's crowd wasn't sure they could get behind Maher after that joke, he said the incident with Hasselbeck united his Twitter followers behind him.

"It's always like 50/50," he admitted of his followers. "Today it was just all for me. It was like, 'thank you Elisabeth Hasselbeck for making me look good!'"

Jason Segel's Face Gets 'Unfavorable Reaction' From 'Muppets' Test Audience (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 15th 2011 3:45AM
Jason Segel, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Jason Segel has managed to have quite a successful career in comedy, despite having a face that apparently just continues to test poorly with audiences. On 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), he brought in a comment card from a 7-year old who was part of a screening for 'The Muppets.'

In it, the kid seemed to love the film, but when asked what he didn't like about it, the answer was pretty straightforward. "Gary's face," the kid wrote.

Gary is the name of Segel's character in the film.

Rick Perry Presents Top 10 Excuses For Debate 'Oops!' on 'Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 11th 2011 6:30AM
Rick Perry, 'Late Show with David Letterman'After forgetting the third government agency he wants to get rid of at this week's debate, Rick Perry has been doing the TV talk show damage control tour. Last night it was the turn of the 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), where Perry tried his hand at comedy.

The 'Top 10 Rick Perry Excuses' had some funny moments, and a nervous-looking Perry started off okay, but mostly he seemed stiff and uncomfortable.

We liked his riffs on Mitt Romney -- "You try concentrating with Mitt Romney smiling at you. That is one handsome dude!" -- and Herman Cain -- "I wanted to help take the heat off my buddy" -- but our advice to Governor Perry is: Don't quit the day job for stand-up.

Katie Holmes' Dress Starts Falling Off During Her Stupid Human Trick (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 11th 2011 3:00AM
Katie Holmes, 'Late Show with David Letterman'David Letterman would have been really kicking himself if he'd forgotten completely to ask Katie Holmes about her Stupid Human Trick' on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS). He just got so distracted talking to her about her five year old daughter, he nearly didn't ask her.

When she stood up and struck her pose to start showing the trick, the strap of her dress fell, and things might have wound up censored had she not pulled it back up. But even that shoulder was enough for Letterman to declare, "This trick ain't that stupid!"

Maybe the trick is Letterman finding different ways to get celebrities to start taking their clothes off on national television. It certainly wasn't the first time for him.
