Justin Timberlake Would Love to Do a Musical, If the Format Was Redefined (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 27th 2011 4:45AM
With his obvious talent in the fields of music and acting, it's a no-brainer that people would be pushing Justin Timberlake to do a movie musical. And while he admits he'd love to do one some day on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), there aren't any out there that he'd be comfortable with.Timberlake suggests it might be a generational thing, but he get past the fact that people seem to randomly break into song, freezing the action of a scene. It's not plausible or realistic, though 'Glee' still does this from time to time. Admittedly, most of their musical numbers are done in such a way that the singing is a logical part of the story.
Stephen Colbert Fights Against Environmentalism in Halloween (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 27th 2011 4:30AM
Every year, Halloween comes under assault, but this new environmental-friendly notion of costume swapping is taking it too far. Stephen Colbert took to the airwaves on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central) to decry the besmirching of this noblest of holidays."Environmentalism goes against everything Halloween stands for," he said. "Rampant consumerism and waste."
He then gave a poignant and beautiful analogy of the life cycle of a tree, comparing Halloween to "clear-cutting a forest, pulping the trees into lush three-ply toilet paper ... and, as a heartless final insult, [hurling] them at their still living cousins."
Stewart Responds to Occupy Wall Street Riots in Oakland (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 27th 2011 4:15AM
Jon Stewart decided to check in on how the nationwide Occupy Wall Street movement has been going on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central). While most of the cities feature the same kind of peaceful protests we've become used to seeing, it's an entirely different picture in Oakland, California."The police saw the situation deteriorating in terms of a public safety threat," one report said. "They saw health conditions getting bad, so they decided to get rid of those protesters."
David Arquette Started a Feud With 'X Factor' by Using Simon Cowell's Toilet (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 27th 2011 3:45AM
'Dancing With the Stars' films their show very close to 'The X Factor' set, which means some tight quarters for those involved with either show. David Arquette talked on 'Chelsea Lately' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on E!) how those close quarters may have started a bit of a feud between the two shows.Apparently, the offense was that Arquette used Simon Cowell's bathroom, which didn't go over well at all. In his words, "I took a dump in Simon Cowell's bathroom and then everybody got all up in arms."
Fallon Not Having a Good Time With Jeff Musial's Animals on 'Late Night' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 26th 2011 6:45AM
Jimmy Fallon was not having a good time with animal expert Jeff Musial's scaly friends on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC). First, one of them not-pooped on Fallon's desk, which almost caused him to lose it.But then Musial brought out a snake he said "packs enough venom, it can drop an elephant within minutes."
And he wondered why Fallon was climbing through the set trying to get away? The snake wound up pretty agitated, and started trying to attack the floor, so Fallon urged Musial to put it in the box. But the box was on its side.
Eddie Murphy Talks About Who Destroyed His Leather Suit From 'Delirious' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 26th 2011 5:30AM
Eddie Murphy was talking a little bit about people's expectations of him as the Oscars host on '106 & Park' (Weeknights, 6PM ET on BET). One thing he wanted to make clear is that the show should not be about him coming out in a leather suit and cracking jokes, but rather about the awards themselves. But the leather suit comment prompted a question of if he still had the one from 'Delirious' or not. It turns out he did, but it got totally destroyed in a prank one night. According to Murphy, Keenen Ivory Wayans put on the suit one night, which looked hilarious because Wayans is much taller than Murphy.
Colbert Can't Figure Out How to Use the New 'Steve Jobs' Biography (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 26th 2011 4:00AM
Fans of 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central) know that Stephen Colbert is always first in line -- or begging desperately to get early editions -- for any new Apple product. So of course he was going to snag the new 'Steve Jobs' biography by Walter Isaacson. The only problem was that the book itself proved a disappointment for him. He treated it like any other handheld Apple device, but it simply wouldn't play along. "You turn it upside down, it doesn't even reorient," he lamented, holding the book upside down.
Walter Isaacson Sums Up the Difference Between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 26th 2011 3:45AM
Walter Isaacson spent a lot of time with Steve Jobs in preparation for the biography he was writing of the Apple co-founder. As such, he came to intimately understand the man and the perception that people had of him. By that same token, he gained an understanding of Bill Gates as well, as he related on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central).Just as Apple and Microsoft have become these two opposite giants in the field of technology, so were Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, according to Isaacson. "Steve is very mystical, artistic, sort of comes from the counter-culture," he said. "Bill Gates is awesomely smart ... and makes a great business model for Microsoft, but he never makes the artistic products."
Beavis and Butt-Head Take Over 'Kimmel' to Interview Snooki (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 26th 2011 3:30AM
Beavis and Butt-head took over the 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC) set so they could hijack Kimmel's scheduled interview with Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi of 'Jersey Shore.'It was a cute skit, with Snooki gamely playing along as Butt-head, all decked out in a suit and sitting in Kimmel's chair, asked if she was DTF. At one point, Beavis, who was producing, held up a sign reading 'Talk About Boobs.'
"I had a question about your boobs," Butt-head said. When she asked what about them, he responded, "They're big."
Eddie Murphy Says He Won't Do Song and Dance Numbers Hosting the Oscars (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 26th 2011 3:15AM
Don't look for an overblown dance number at the next Oscars ceremony. Host Eddie Murphy told David Letterman on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) that this was the very first thing he addressed when the whole idea was first broached."The first thing that came out of my mouth was, 'I'm not doing one of those crazy dance numbers,'" Murphy said.
"That's exactly what you're gonna be doing," Letterman responded, so we'll see who turns out to be right. Will Murphy stand his ground, or be pressured into giving a musical performance. We'll all find out February 26, 2012 when 'The 84th Academy Awards' hits the airwaves.
T.I. Teases Chelsea, Says He Thought Her Last Name Was Cent (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 26th 2011 1:30AM
"Your last name isn't 'Lately,' by the way Chelsea," T.I. said during his appearance on 'Chelsea Lately' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on E!). He was there to promote his new book, 'Power and Beauty.' But he couldn't resist poking fun a little bit of fun at Chelsea Handler while he was there."I thought your last name was 'Cent,'" he said. "I thought it was 'Chelsea Cent.'"
Handler was ready for this, though. She's certainly made enough jokes about her and 50 Cent. "50's last name was 'Lately' for a while. But then we changed it back," she retorted.
President Obama Talks Reality TV, Ignoring the GOP Field on 'The Tonight Show' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 26th 2011 1:00AM
Barack Obama has managed to do something that many Americans are finding quite difficult. He's managed to avoid both the Kardashians and the current GOP field of candidates vying to take his job. On 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC), he admitted that while he doesn't want his daughters watching the Kardashians on television, he's never seen the show."I am probably a little biased against reality TV," he admitted. "Partly because there's this program on C-SPAN called Congress."
Naomi Watts on Working With Clint Eastwood, While Having a Crush on Him (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 25th 2011 5:00AM
Naomi Watts admitted to having a bit of a crush on Clint Eastwood when she was younger, but after seeing her on 'Late Night' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC), we think she still might. First, she stated that as a statement of fact if Clint Eastwood calls you and asks you to be in his movie, you say "yes," even if you haven't yet read the script.Granted, Eastwood makes great movies, but she continued to fawn over working with him on the set, where she admitted it's "not a comfortable situation" in the workplace if you're crushing on your boss.
But then she marveled at his physical fitness for a man of 81 years, talking about how he demonstrated push-ups for the film. At least now that filming is over, she's free to crush all she wants with no discomfort.
Jon Huntsman Asks Stephen Colbert in Mandarin to Be His Running Mate (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 25th 2011 4:00AM
Looking for that coveted Colbert bump to boost his current two percent standings in the Republican field, Gov. Jon Huntsman went on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central). There, he fielded questions about Mormonism being referred to as a cult -- he equated it to Catholocism being called a cult when JFK was running -- and why he doesn't just run as a Democrat. When Stephen Colbert asked him to say the most "non-scary thing" Huntsman could think of in Mandaran -- he's fluent in the language -- he did. But Colbert still responded with, "Terrifying."
When he asked what Huntsman had said, he replied, "I just said I think that you oughta consider being my running mate for vice president." That is terrifying. Imagine, a fictional character one heartbeat away from the presidency.
Jonah Hill Fought With a Couple at His Favorite Restaurant (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 25th 2011 3:45AM
This new, skinnier Jonah Hill is much more confident and aggressive than he used to be. Or at least, that's become more an aspect of the stories he likes to tell on talk shows like 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC).When he's not feuding with Matthew Morrison, Hill is standing up for his right to privacy and a peaceful meal at his favorite sushi restaurant. By standing up, we mean quite literally standing, shouting and eventually getting into a shoving match with a middle-aged man in a suit.
