by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 10th 2011 4:00AM
Adam Sandler, 'Late Show with David Letterman'When you hear celebrities talking in detail about their experiences out in public with the paparazzi, it sounds like it must be one of the most annoying experiences in the world. Unfortunately, as Adam Sandler pointed out on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), they have another guy recording video right next to them, so you can't even lose your cool while they're completely invading your life.

After a particularly relentless encounter when he was just trying to spend some time with his kids, his daughter presented a way that he could get the paparazzi to leave him alone. "Stop doing so many movies," she told him. And she's absolutely right, that would probably work pretty quick.

Robert Pattinson Uses Some Weird Techniques to Disguise Himself (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 9th 2011 3:15AM
Robert Pattinson, 'Late Show with David Letterman'One of the biggest things that celebrities have to deal with is getting recognized in public. Add to that the recognition coming from playing a ridiculously popular character like Edward Cullen in the 'Twilight' series of films, and Robert Pattinson gets more than just passively recognized. He gets mobbed, though he has some interesting ideas how to avoid it on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS).

Pattinson said he actually tried simply making strange expressions to avoid getting recognized. By this, he means contorting your face, or adopting tics to "draw attention to the wrong part of your body." However, he found that this doesn't particularly work.

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 8th 2011 3:00AM
Melissa McCarthy, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Melissa McCarthy will always be remembered for being crowned the winner of the Best Comedy Actress Emmy this past year with a tiara and flowers, like it was a beauty pageant. For her daughter Vivian, in fact, the crown was the highlight of the night, according to McCarthy on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS).

Vivian is four-and-a-half years old, and was so excited the day after the Emmy broadcast. "Mama, last night they made you a princess," she crowed. Then she asked if she could see it. Only when McCarthy showed her the Emmy, she wasn't impressed. "No, not that," she said, according to McCarthy. "The crown!"

Mike Judge Performs a Scene from 'Beavis and Butt-Head' for Letterman (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 4th 2011 3:45AM
Mike Judge, 'Late Show with David Letterman'David Letterman admitted to mourning the absence of 'Beavis and Butt-head' when the show went off the air from 1997 until last week. On 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), he admitted to creator Mike Judge that he thought it would be cool to spend the day with the animated delinquents.

Judge, who also does most of the voices on the show, couldn't make that reality come true, but he could re-enact a scene from this week's episode, which aired only an hour and a half before 'Late Show.'

Condoleezza Rice Defends President Bush's Intelligence on 'Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 3rd 2011 3:45AM
Condoleezza Rice, 'Late Show with David Letterman'As David Letterman readily admitted to Condoleezza Rice on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), he certainly made his fair share of jokes about former President George W. Bush, particularly targeting his seeming lack of intellect. And so he decided that with Bush's former Secretary of State on, he was going to get to the bottom of this once and for all.

We're not sure if he expected Rice to throw her former boss under the bus or what, but she defended his intelligence and due diligence at performing the duties of his job. "I saw more cabinet secretaries go in there with their presentation and have the president ask the one question that they hadn't thought of," she cited as an example of his inquisitive and insightful mind.

Whitney Cummings Has a Vagina Dialogue with David Letterman (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 2nd 2011 4:00AM
Whitney Cummings, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Whitney Cummings and David Letterman just couldn't get away from the word vagina on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS). She said she was appalled at how filthy his show was and how many times he'd referenced the word, so of course he did it again.

Because Cummings has two shows on competing networks right nows, '2 Broke Girls' on CBS and 'Whitney' on NBC, he decided to ask her which was the better show. "If you had to bet your vagina?" he asked, which set her off in gales of laughter.

So she threw it right back at him when he complimented her scent, but couldn't identify what it was. "You know what?" she said. "It's my vagina."

Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa Talks Retirement on 'Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 1st 2011 8:00AM
Tony La Russa, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Mere hours after announcing his retirement, St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was sitting on the couch opposite David Letterman on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS). The two talked about his storied career, and the Cardinals' improbable run toward World Series champions this season.

La Russa was humble in speculating on his potential for a spot in the Hall of Fame, and joked about future work. He figures he'll probably continue working in baseball, but also said that the first job offer he's seen is for an elephant keeper for the Performing Animal Welfare Society. That would certainly be a change of pace.

Johnny Depp Talks Justin Bieber on 'Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Oct 28th 2011 5:30AM
Johnny Depp, 'Late Show'Johnny Depp knows a thing or two about being a teen heartthrob, so who better to consider the phenomenon known as Justin Bieber? The first time Depp came across the Bieb, he told 'Late Show' (Weeknights., 11:30PM ET on CBS) host David Letterman, was when he was doing press interviews for his movie 'Rango.'

When a journalist acted Depp if he was "a Belieber" the actor was at first confused, and he thought maybe the guy either had a speech impediment or had downed a few drinks. But then the old synapses fired off and he realized what the guy was talking about.

So Depp said, "Of course, I'm a huge Belieber." And then, as if by magic, Bieber himself appeared in the room. "I don't know if we summoned him up?" joked Depp.

Justin Timberlake Would Love to Do a Musical, If the Format Was Redefined (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 27th 2011 4:45AM
Justin Timberlake, 'Late Show with David Letterman'With his obvious talent in the fields of music and acting, it's a no-brainer that people would be pushing Justin Timberlake to do a movie musical. And while he admits he'd love to do one some day on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), there aren't any out there that he'd be comfortable with.

Timberlake suggests it might be a generational thing, but he get past the fact that people seem to randomly break into song, freezing the action of a scene. It's not plausible or realistic, though 'Glee' still does this from time to time. Admittedly, most of their musical numbers are done in such a way that the singing is a logical part of the story.

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 26th 2011 3:15AM
Eddie Murphy, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Don't look for an overblown dance number at the next Oscars ceremony. Host Eddie Murphy told David Letterman on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) that this was the very first thing he addressed when the whole idea was first broached.

"The first thing that came out of my mouth was, 'I'm not doing one of those crazy dance numbers,'" Murphy said.

"That's exactly what you're gonna be doing," Letterman responded, so we'll see who turns out to be right. Will Murphy stand his ground, or be pressured into giving a musical performance. We'll all find out February 26, 2012 when 'The 84th Academy Awards' hits the airwaves.

Letterman Is Mesmerized by Salma Hayek's Earrings on 'Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 25th 2011 2:30AM
Salma Hayek, 'Late Show with David Letterman'David Letterman was positively transfixed by Salma Hayek's snake earrings on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS). "I've never seen anything that exotic," he said. "That's like Cleopatra kind of stuff."

When he asked how she takes them off, Hayek explained and then asked him to try taking them off so he could see. Letterman was clearly nervous at the prospect ... or maybe it was Hayek leaning-in so close to him. Either way, she was ready for him.

"All the things you've taken off on a woman and you cannot take an earring off?" she asked.

Bill O'Reilly Refuses to Give Letterman a High Five (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 14th 2011 10:50AM
Bill O'Reilly earned himself a new nickname with his latest appearance on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS). David Letterman proposed the notion that America turned Iraq into a hotbed of terrorism that it wasn't before our invasion.

Then, in a move that clearly surprised him, O'Reilly essentially agreed with him that our going in was a mistake. He supported it initially based on claims there were weapons of mass destruction there, which turned out to be false.

Letterman then decided to seal their moment of agreement with a high five, which O'Reilly was not inclined to do. At one point, he even chastised Letterman. "We're having a good conversation. Sit down," he ordered.

Letterman Talks to Bill Clinton About Who to Blame for Economy (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 13th 2011 3:45AM
Bill Clinton, 'Late Show with David Letterman'With a political powerhouse like Bill Clinton on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), David Letterman couldn't resist talking about some of the serious issues plaguing the United States today.

He couldn't understand why people who aren't struggling in these trying times aren't willing to have their taxes raised.

"If I was the kind of person who was struggling financially, and I saw somebody who wasn't, I would be more than happy to assail them for doing their fair share," he said.

But, as he argued, he's always looking to blame somebody, which he thinks is human nature. Clinton disagrees.

Surgery Talk Leads to Spanking for Matthew Broderick on 'Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 12th 2011 2:45AM
Matthew Broderick, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Things got a little kinky between Matthew Broderick and David Letterman on 'Late Show' (Tue., 11:35PM ET on CBS). Broderick was talking about his recent back surgery, which involved fusing his spine with "rods, screws, titanium and other metals." So Letterman logically asked if this was an issue with airport security.

Broderick had yet to fly since his surgery, so Letterman had the next best solution. He had a metal detector on hand and started passing it over where Broderick had the surgery. But there was no sound, so Letterman made one with by swatting Broderick on the butt with the detector.

Tracy Morgan, 'Late Show'Tracy Morgan had a rough summer, twice offending people with comments he made during his live stand-up shows. He talked about the apologies he made on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), where David Letterman said he was on Morgan's side.

"I apologized because people came to the show and they paid money and they got upset about it," Morgan said. "That wasn't my intention to hurt anybody with my humor."

He went on to say, "We live in a really sensitive time right now." Morgan is insistent that he's not homophobic, and further stated that he doesn't recall exactly what was said in that particular show that offended someone.
