The Visitors Are Back: 'V' Cast Talks About Show's Return (VIDEO)

Moms rule on the first season of ABC's 'V,' the flashy remake of the 1983 miniseries. In the show's fall premiere, alien ships filled with "Visitors" appeared over Earth, proclaiming peace and promising truly universal healthcare.
A short four-episode run ended in cliffhangers galore -- FBI agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) found out her son Tyler was on the mothership with head Visitor Anna (Morena Baccarin) and her daughter Lisa (Laura Vandervoort); Father Jack Landry (Joel Gretsch) was stabbed by a V; reporter Chad Decker (Scott Wolf) discovered he had a potentially fatal brain aneurysm; and Ryan (Morris Chestnut), a V posing as human, learned his girlfriend (Lourdes Benedicto) was pregnant with his half-alien baby.
Review: V - It's Only the Beginning
(S01E04) Well, that's it until March 2010. The most important thing that V could do this week was to leave us hanging on the edge of our seats as to what's coming next. If the idea was to give us a sense of sheer hopelessness in the face of the power of the Visitors, then that's what we did.More importantly, we got to see the genesis of the Resistance movement led by Jack, Ryan and Erica. It makes an even more powerful figure when you consider that at this point there are exactly four people -- at least that we're following -- taking on 29 Visitor ships with technology and power almost beyond our imagining.
Everyone loves a scrappy underdog, and you couldn't ask for much more than that. But it was great seeing them take some of their first strikes against the Visitors as a unit. This is the struggle, against near impossible odds, that will keep us glued to our seats.
Introducing...Laura Vandervoort
How many gorgeous blondes can come out of Canada? Many, it seems. The latest is 25-year-old Laura Vandervoort, who plays the beautiful extra-terrestrial Lisa on hit sci-fi series 'V'. Vandervoort was born and raised in Canada, and she has had roles in many of the formative TV shows of our youth, including 'Goosebumps', 'Are You Afraid of the Dark', and 'Road to Avonlea.' It seems the young lady has finally come into her own as an alien, and the buzz south of the border is starting to grow.
Laura Vandervoort Talks 'V,' Anna's Powers and Getting It On with Humans - VIDEO
Oh the Visitors ... so spooky. So shrouded in mystery. Such flawless skin! On a whirlwind visit to the 'V' set in Vancouver, AOL TV got some one-on-one time with one of the Visitors' most promising recruiters: Lisa, played by the delightful Laura Vandervoort (who super geeks probably remember as Supergirl from 'Smallville').
Vandervoort dished about the V's cool weaponry and technology, and the possibility that queen bee Anna (Morena Baccarin) could have powers beyond what we've already seen. She also talked about seeing giant red "V"s everywhere, and making her mom proud with her great onscreen posture.
But with Lisa getting closer and closer to hormonal human Tyler (Logan Huffman), when will recruitment drive her to get it on with some humans? "I'm surprised she hasn't already," laughs Vandervoort. "But I'm sure that's in the future for the show."
Watch our full Q&A with her now, and check back here for more 'V' goodness in the coming days. We'll have a new cast Q&A every day until the next episode airs (Tues., Nov. 17, 8PM ET on ABC).
Some cast for SyFy's Riverworld and The Phantom
Sci Fi (or SyFy, whenever that changeover is taking place) has cast some of its upcoming projects. Battlestar Galactica and Dollhouse's Tahmoh Penikett and Smallville's Laura Vandevoort has been cast in Riverworld and Desperate Housewive's Ryan Carnes has been cast as the lead character in The Phantom. This is either a sign that Dollhouse is destined for only one season or Tahmoh Penikett's character of Paul Ballard is not going to survive beyond the first season. I'm hoping it is more of the latter than the former.
Smallville: Bloodline
(S08E08) Kara is back, fulfilling Laura Vandervoort's one-episode obligation for this season. She looked like she stepped right out of one of the Mad Max movies. The only question I had is how they would quickly dispose of the character after reintroducing her and I admit that they threw me on that one. I figured she'd die in the Phantom Zone, but it would somewhat diminish the spin-off possibilities if they did that. The current tactic of sending her on an indefinite mission so they could bring her back if they wanted works much better.Supergirl to appear in one episode of Smallville this season
Despite being a regular in season 7, Laura Vandervoort is scheduled to appear in only a single episode of season 8 of Smallville. Sorry to spoil those who haven't seen the season 7 finale by now, but considering her Kara/Supergirl character was trapped in the Phantom Zone at the end of the season, it's nice of the producers to allow her storyline to end on a more positive note (one can hope).Ms. Vandervoort also mentioned at the Toronto FanExpo this past weekend that there was consideration of spinning off her character to her own show. While that would have been a good idea, the ship sailed on a Smallville spin-off after season three. Also, a series about a super-powered blonde girl has been done already with a show about a certain Vampire Slayer.
I already have low expectations for season eight of Smallville (particularly given the radical change in cast). Without the regular presence of the rather attractive Kara, my expectations remain the same.
Instant Star returns!
I'm sure that thirty-something IT guys with freakish beards is not the demographic that The-N is searching for, but they've hooked me just the same. Instant Star, Beyond The Break, and South Of Nowhere have all long ago earned their season passes on my DVR, and I can be sucked into a Degrassi marathon on occasion.
If you share my predilection for Canadian teen drama, you might be interested to know that Instant Star is back with all new episodes tomorrow. And if you like the teen drama from the north but haven't managed to get on board with Jude's adventures just yet, you can catch up with a huge marathon tomorrow. Starting at 1AM, there will be 15 hours worth of episodes leading up to the fourth season premiere at 5PM PST. That premiere will, of course, answer the big question... As The-N's promo department puts it, "OMG! Who did Jude choose?!"
Helen Slater to guest star on Smallville
Supergirl, meet Supergirl. That is sort of what will happen in episode six of the upcoming season of Smallville when Helen Slater, who played the woman of steel in the 1984 movie Supergirl, will guest star on The CW hit series confirms Sci Fi Wire.It was announced a few weeks ago that Smallville was adding the character of Supergirl to its show and that Laura Vandervoort was cast in the role. So what role will Slater play? Spoilers after the jump!
And Smallville's Supergirl is...
A month after announcing that Supergirl would join The CW's Smallville as a new series regular, the network announced who will be playing her. TV Guide reveals that Clark Kent's cousin Kara will be played by Canadian Laura Vandervoort.Vandervoort fits the description from the Supergirl casting call: Caucasian 19-year-old who must be blond, smart, beautiful and funny. However, she is 22-years-old but since Tom Welling is a 30-year-old playing a teen, I guess fans will allow the actress to be three years older than the character!
