Satellite Award winners announced
Every mainstream offering has its alternative. The Oscars have the Independent Spirit Awards. Sundance has Slamdance. And, the Golden Globes have the Satellite Awards? Never heard of them? Me neither. Hosted by the International Press Academy, as opposed to Globe host - the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Satellites honor a slightly broader, more unexpected line-up of television greats. Some of the more intriguing names to turn up among the nominees included Laura Kightlinger for the Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman, Julie Benz for Dexter (pictured) and Stephen Colbert as a "best actor" nominee for The Colbert Report.
Winner were announced on Monday night. You can check them out after the jump:
Laura Kightlinger on Jackie Woodman
I wouldn't call myself a huge fan, but I've always had an admiration for comedian Laura Kightlinger. She's popped up from time to time on the TV screen on shows such as Saturday Night Live and Loveline, as well as Will and Grace, on which she was also a writer and producer. She's very funny, and this interview she did with USA Today's Whitney Matheson proves it. The two ladies talk about Kightlinger's IFC series The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman, which Anna first mentioned in May and is yet further proof that I need a better cable package because there are just too many channels with too many good shows I'm missing. At least, I assume the show is good since she's involved with it. Perhaps it totally sucks, but I wouldn't know. That's my point.
George Lopez producing new sitcom for ABC
George Lopez just signed on to executive produce a new sitcom for ABC starring the Vidal sisters, Lisa, Christina and
Tanya. I don't know who these women are or what it is about their lives that makes them so funny. Lopez met Lisa Vidal
when she played his wife in the 2004 television Christmas movie, Naughty or Nice. They got to talking and
decided Lisa's stories about her family and her sisters would make a good sitcom. All three sisters are actresses. Lisa
Vidal is currently on Boston Legal, Christina Vidal just finished a horror movie, See No Evil, and
Tanya Vidal has a recurring role on The Division. Laura Kightlinger, head writer for Will and Grace,
will executive produce and write the new sitcom. Lopez's wife, Ann, will be credited as a producer since she's the one
who came up with the idea in the first place.TV Squad Hot Topics
