Everything You Need to Know About 'Breakout Kings'
by Annette Bourdeau, posted Mar 1st 2011 2:00PM

TV Squad is in one of the seediest strip clubs in Toronto, watching Lauren Velez from 'Dexter' chatting amicably with a tough-looking thug and a pretty young stripper.
We're on the set of the new A&E crime show 'Breakout Kings,' and Velez and company are gearing up to film an intense shoot-out scene. Created by Matt Olmstead ('Prison Break,' 'NYPD Blue') and Nick Santora ('Prison Break,' 'The Sopranos'), each episode follows an unconventional team of two U.S. Marshals and three inmates trying to catch an escaped fugitive.
The rationale behind the unusual arrangement is that "it takes a con to catch a con." In exchange for helping the Marshals hunt down escaped bad guys, the three inmates get a break from jail while they're on the case, and a month off of their total sentences for each criminal they net. This time around, Velez is playing the inmate on the run -– a far cry from her role as the career-driven Lt. Maria Laguerta on 'Dexter.'
'Breakout Kings' stars Domenick Lombardozzi ('The Wire,' 'Entourage') and Laz Alonso ('Southland') as the two U.S. Marshals, Brooke Nevin ('The Comebacks') as the Marshals' office staffer, and Jimmi Simpson ('It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia'), Malcolm Goodwin ('American Gangster') and Serinda Swan ('TRON: Legacy') as the three inmates.
We spent a day on the 'Breakout Kings' set and caught up with Olmstead, Lombardozzi, Alonso and Simpson to get the scoop on everything you need to know about prime time's latest crime show.
Dexter: Living the Dream (season premiere)
by Danny Gallagher, posted Sep 28th 2009 12:52AM
(S0401) "Who knew life could get so ... unsimple?" - Dexter Morgan Moving an unsuspecting serial killer to the burbs sounds like a pitch for a UPN sitcom. "What happens when a wacky serial killer moves into the wackiest suburban neighborhood in the wackiest town in America? You've got 'A Real Cutup.'"
Instead, this is where we find loveable ol' Dexter Morgan, played by Michael C. Hall, at the beginning of the fourth season of Showtime's most popular Sunday night drama that isn't all drama. It still plays heavy on the complex emotions and relationships that make Dexter's life so interesting, but it also features shimmers of laughter as Dexter tries to juggle the life of a father, wife, blood spatter expert, and avenging serial killer without relying too much on one device or character.
The promos for the new season probably made you think, as did I, that Dexter would go from kill room to kill room with a baby slung across his torso in a cute little mini rubber smock and welding mask.
Dexter's LaGuerta joins Ugly Betty
by Annie Wu, posted Dec 29th 2008 9:02AM
Lauren Velez, also known as Maria LaGuerta of Showtime's Dexter, has signed on for a guest role on Ugly Betty. No word on when she will be shooting her episodes or what she'll be doing, apart from wearing a nurse's uniform. In the world of Ugly Betty, though, that could really mean anything, right? According to the article, the super-secrecy surrounding her role has to do with a major plot point regarding one of the main characters. Let's hope Nurse Velez will give this show just enough to save it.
