'The Talk' Ladies Discuss Mark Halperin's Presidential Gaffe (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 30th 2011 5:50PM
Leah Remini, Sara Gilbert, and Sharon Osbourne on 'The Talk'Thursday morning on 'Morning Joe,' Mark Halperin of Time Magazine and MSNBC said he thought President Obama was "kind of a dick" in his recent press conference. Halperin was quickly suspended by MSNBC, and critiques of his comment poured in from all corners, including a couple on Thursday's edition of 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS).

Holly Robinson Peete started the discussion on a lighter note, saying, "There hasn't been a man called 'Dick' in the oval office since President Richard Nixon." Leah Remini said she liked the fact that the president could be kind of a dick. "I don't know, I like to hear that people are like hard-asses a little bit, especially our president," she said.

Sharon Osbourne said that wasn't the context in which Halperin used the term. "He didn't say 'this guy is a ball-buster, he's a toughie,'" said Osbourne. "He did it in a very disrespectful way."

Jill Zarin Tells Leah Remini She'd Make a Great 'Real Housewife' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 15th 2011 5:10PM
Leah Remini on 'The Real Housewives of New York City' on 'The Talk''The Real Housewives of New York City' is missing its most recognizable face this season without Bethenny Frankel. But that hasn't hurt the show, said Jill Zarin on Wednesday's 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS). Zarin said she was happy for Frankel and all of her post-show success, and then got into the details that make the show popular, the interpersonal friction between the different housewives.

At the insistence of Leah Remini, Zarin addressed her troubles with fellow housewife Ramona Singer. "Have you sat her down, seriously, off camera and said, 'Ramona, come and watch the show and look how you look," said Remini. Zarin said she was having problems with Singer lying about small details, like whether Zarin owned the Ferrari she drove in season one.

Remini was so passionate about the feud that Holly Robinson Peete asked Zarin if she thought Remini would make a good addition to the cast. Zarin said she would, and Remini seemed open to the idea, saying she loves the show.

Angela Basset Announces 'Waiting to Exhale' Sequel on 'The Talk' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted May 5th 2011 5:30PM
Angela Bassett on 'The Talk''Waiting to Exhale' was a hit in 1995, a success for its stars, Angela Bassett and Whitney Houston, and director Forest Whitaker. Today on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS), Bassett had a special announcement that fans probably weren't expecting: There is definitely a sequel in the works.

"It's preliminary, but it's going to happen," she said. Terry McMillan, who wrote the original novel and screenplay, has written the script based on her book 'Getting to Happy.' And all of the original stars will be back, according to Bassett. That presumably includes Houston.

Bassett asked Leah Remini if she wanted to be in it, and she said yes. So look forward to that cameo.

Niecy Nash Gives Leah Remini Baby-Naming Advice on 'The Talk'

by Nick Zaino, posted May 2nd 2011 5:40PM
Leah Remini and Niecy Nash on 'The Talk'Niecy Nash has three kids whose names all start with the letter "D." There's a formula to naming kids, she said today on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS): You take the first names of the parents and make a new name for your child. For example, Don and Aisha's kid would be Daniesha.

"You know, it's what black people do," she said. "I'll give you a lesson on how to do it." She laid out the combination principle, which fascinated Leah Remini. She asked what she should have named her daughter Sophia, given that her husband is named Angelo.

Nash came up with "L'Angela," which floored Remini. Remember that if Remini has a fourth kid. Especially if it's a boy.

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 21st 2011 5:05PM
Julie Chen's Julie Chen has always had an interesting sense of fashion. Thursday on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS), Sharon Osbourne called the blouse Chen was wearing into question, causing the rest of the panel to crack up laughing and Chen to blush.

"I just have one thing to ask today," said Osbourne. "Why are you wearing sofas on your breasts?" Chen's shirt resembled a living room scene, she explained. Chen had no good answer. "I don't know," she said, "I just wanted to try something new."

Luckily for Chen, she had not removed the label, so she can follow Osbourne's advice and take it back to the store.

'The Talk' Declares War on Tucked-in Shirts for Men (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 14th 2011 4:55PM
The fashion police on 'The Talk'The fashion police are real, and they are in your home, on your TV, on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS). Using their audience members as examples, Holly Robinson Peete, Julie Chen and Leah Remini laid down some basic rules of men's fashion, searching for men with tucked in shirts like Tommy Lee Jones searched for Harrison Ford in 'The Fugitive.' Except they were much more efficient.

The rules, as described by Robinson Peete, dictate that a man should never tuck in a button-down shirt, t-shirt, or jersey, leaving only leaves sweaters and upper body casts as garments untouched by the bylaws of tucking. Two men were brought onstage to have their shirts untucked. The only fashion victim left unscathed was a man in slacks and a tie, because he was dressed up.

Holly Robinson Peete
had no qualms about doing the untucking herself, but Leah Remini exercised an abundance of caution. "Untuck it, because I don't want to violate you," she said. If only the TSA were so kind.

Jerry O'Connell Steals Stuff From Hotels (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 13th 2011 5:15PM
Jerry O'Connell on 'The Talk'Hotels, beware: If you see Jerry O'Connell coming through your lobby, you may want to start nailing things down -- especially if he's brought his wife. O'Connell admitted today on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) that he steals from hotels, and so does his wife. Usually it's just soap, but sometimes it's something bigger.

O'Connell said if he pays more than $200 a night for a place, then he will steal the soap. And not just the one he has opened. He will take as many as he can carry, and went into a little pantomime of backing a truck up to pack it with sundries.

He also noted that when he and his wife were staying at one hotel, she took a liking to a sculpture on a coffee table in the room. When they got home, O'Connell was surprised to find the sculpture had come with them. "She was like, 'I wanted it,' and I was like, 'Are you crazy?'"

Leah Remini, for one was outraged, even after O'Connell explained the sculpture wasn't encrusted with diamonds or a Faberge egg.

Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini's Heart Karaoke Scares Kids ... and Heart (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 11th 2011 6:30PM
Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini on 'The Talk'Whenever 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) leaves the studio, it's always trouble. Today's edition featured video of Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini karaoke-ing Heart's 'Barracuda' and 'These Dreams' in front of a group of frightened children. Back in the studio, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart offered their critique.

"You guys were scaring your kids," said Ann Wilson. Remini asked if the Wilson sisters felt threatened, then asked if they felt scared. Ann Wilson said yes, and we guess she meant more the latter than the former. Nancy was kind enough to say they had really captured "the ooh thing."

Sharon Osbourne, who is a bit familiar with music herself, said, "It sounded a bit like a cat." But she was probably just being kind.

Dana Delany Flushes the Toilet for Good Luck (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 5th 2011 5:20PM
Dana Delany on 'The Talk'Dana Delany explained today on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) that she is heir to a very particular throne -- that of Delany Flush Valves. Her great grandfather invented an improvement to the chain flushing system popular at the time, and the company he created is still around. It didn't make the Delany family rich, as Leah Remini thought, but it did provide Dana Delany, who currently stars on 'Body of Proof,' an interesting good luck charm.

"In New York, especially at the ABC building, which I'm still on," she explained, "there was Delany Flush Valves in the building, and so before I had an audition for, like, 'One Life to Live' or 'All My Children,' I would go in there and flush the toilet for good luck."

There's a metaphor for making it in television in there somewhere. We'll leave you to come up with your own details.

Smooth Blake Shelton Liked 'Roseanne,' But Loves Holly Robinson Peete (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 1st 2011 5:55PM
Blake Shelton gives up his seat for Holly Robinson Peete on 'The Talk'Blake Shelton, country music star and one of the coaches on the new singing show 'The Voice,' which debuts April 26, said on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) that he was a fan of the show 'Roseanne' and that he may have something of a crush on Holly Robinson Peete. He tried to be a gentleman about it, but he still managed to ruffle the feathers of Sara Gilbert and Leah Remini.

"I was like, wait, where's the love?" said Gilbert. "He's just a fan of 'Roseanne,' but he's got a crush on Holly?" But Shelton was smooth, saying his thoughts about Gilbert were "way beyond" a crush. Peete herself had not been participating in the interview, but when she came out, Shelton sat on the floor and offered his seat to her.

Peete mentioned another show Shelton had not given an opinion on, 'King Of Queens,' starring Remini. He got in trouble with Remini for saying he mostly liked shows that were on when he was a kid, but then Peete took offense. "That makes me old as hell," she said. Shelton had an answer for even that, saying that Peete was just a teen on that show.

Shelton should now be considered one of the smoothest guys on television. If he can escape the ire of three-fifths of the hosts of 'The Talk,' he should have no problem with auditioners on 'The Voice.'

Leah Remini and Sara Gilbert Share Competing Food Cravings on 'The Talk' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Mar 30th 2011 7:00PM
Leah Remini on 'The Talk'Leah Remini and Sara Gilbert are a world apart when it comes to their food cravings, something they detailed on Wednesday's 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS). Remini gets hit with urges for fast food like McDonald's and Kentucky Fried Chicken, and even once wound up Tweeting Entenmann's in desperation. Gilbert's urges are a tad more esoteric.

So what's her craving? "It's this raw almond milk," she said, to taunts from her co-hosts. It's something a friend carries at their store. "Yummy yummy yummy milk," Remini said sarcastically.

Gilbert also said she liked raw chocolate ice cream. "Wait until you guys taste it," she said. That was apparently the last straw for Remini, who cut Gilbert off with, "Oh my god, blah blah blah. Anyway ..."

Sara Gilbert's Family Dynamics Confuses Leah Remini's Daughter (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Mar 7th 2011 6:05PM
Sara Gilbert on 'The Talk'On today's 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS), Sara Gilbert told the story of trying to explain her family dynamics to co-host Leah Remini's 6-year-old daughter, Sofia. Gilbert is gay, and has two children with her longtime partner, Allison Adler.

Apparently while visiting Remini's house, the precocious Sofia cornered Gilbert and asked why her kids have two mommies. "Most people have a mommy and a daddy, but they've got a mommy and a mamma," Gilbert remembered saying. "She's like, 'I don't get it.' She's like, 'It's weird.' "

Sofia wanted to know who the kids' "real" mother was. Gilbert carried one of the couple's children, while Adler carried the other. Further explanations didn't seem to clear things up for Sofia. "She's like, 'I don't get it, are you guys sisters?' "

Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini Imitate Drunken Fan on 'The Talk'It's probably not wise to mock your fans, but it sure makes for entertaining television. Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini imitate a drunken fan of Remini's on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated).

Peete said the fan was so inebriated that he incorrectly referred to Remini's show 'The King of Queens' and babbled nonsense phrases such as "cricker-croaker." Then, the man does a dance that Peete calls "The White Man's Overbite," which she's more than happy to recreate for the audience.
