'America's Most Wanted' Moves to Lifetime

by Catherine Lawson, posted Sep 7th 2011 6:05AM
John WalshFans of 'America's Most Wanted' can rest easy. Host John Walsh has come through on his promise to find a new home for the weekly series after it was cancelled by Fox back in May. Later this year the veteran law-enforcement show will launch its 25th season on ... Lifetime.

It sounds like an odd pairing, but the two may not be as mismatched as first appears. Earlier this summer, Lifetime President and General Manager Nancy Dubuc spoke of the network's new push to embrace the contemporary woman.

And, according to Deadline, although the series seems very macho and guy-oriented on the surface, if you dig a little deeper you find that it's actually female-skewing because of its "wish-fulfillment element that justice will be served."

In a statement announcing the move, Dubuc said "'America's Most Wanted' is a seminal program that provides a very valuable service to both viewers and law enforcement agencies. For more than two decades John Walsh has been leading the fight against crime and it's an honor to partner with him on bringing back this important show."

by Alex Moaba, posted Sep 6th 2011 4:25PM
'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) returned from its summer hiatus Tuesday, and Jennifer Love Hewitt was one of its first guests. Hewitt previewed her latest project, 'The Client List,' which Lifetime is expanding from a TV movie into a series. Hewitt also starred in the movie version as Sam Horton, a Texas woman who falls on hard times and has to take a job at a massage parlor that doubles as a brothel.

The series will be different from the movie version in two central ways, Hewitt shared. Firstly, her character will now have red hair, news which pleased co-host Sharon Osbourne. Sam will also be taking on more of a business role in the prostitution operation to support her family.

Olivier Wants to Glue His Dress to the Model on 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 2nd 2011 2:30AM
'Project Runway'We're certainly not designers, but even we could have guessed that gluing a dress to your model is never a good idea. Olivier was running out of time and was concerned the top of his dress would fall down, so he came up with this brilliant idea on 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime).

!!SPOILER ALERT!!

Luckily, Tim Gunn caught wind of it before he had completely slathered the model's chest with glue. He showed up to advise Olivier that this is clearly against the rules. The clothing must stay up of its own accord, which you would think is kind of obvious.

'The Millionaire Matchmaker' Is a Love Guru on 'Drop Dead Diva' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 29th 2011 8:08AM
Patti Stanger the Millionaire Matchmaker, 'Drop Dead Diva''The Millionaire Matchmaker' herself, Patti Stanger, made a special guest appearance on 'Drop Dead Diva' (Sun., 9PM ET on Lifetime). It was her first acting performance, and she did a solid job. To keep it familiar perhaps, her character was also in the relationship business, but Marcy's focus was on encouraging women not to give it away.

When she targeted Jane at one of her workshops, Teri stood up to defend her friend and take down her old high school classmate. Marcy was a bully then and she proved herself to still be a bully.

"Teri Lee," she said. "I see you've changed. Your acne cleared up."

'Russian Dolls'After five years of college, Anastasia has finallly decided what she wants to do with her life on 'Russian Dolls' (Thu., 11:30PM ET on Lifetime). At least for now. Law is a really solid choice, right?

After paying for and supporting her daughter through the first five years, which haven't really gone anywhere except through several degree problems, Anastasia's mother dared to ask how she was planning to pay for this?

Anastasia took this as a sign that her mother was never proud of her, and insisted that she fully intended to pay for her own loans. It was an awkward encounter, with Anastasia cursing out her mother, who simply stood there and took it.

A Quitter, a Diva, and a Design-for-Heidi Challenge on 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 26th 2011 2:03AM
'Project Runway' - 'Off the Track'Whatever happened to fun challenges? This week, they designers had to design for Heidi Klum on 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime), or more specifically for tennis shoes that she designed. $300, 24 hours and each team needs to come up with three looks.

We're not sure what running a track has to do with fashion design, but that was how team leaders were decided. Sure, the tennis shoe angle, but really?

Maybe it's because of how frantically you have to run around behind-the-scenes at a fashion show? Or maybe the producers just wanted to see some of these out-of-shape people run. Do you think they're getting bored?

Then, she still expected Dawn to pay her bill. So Dawn came back, with a very smug smile on her face, insisting she wasn't going to pay it because by throwing her daughter out, Abby breached the contract. Abby insists the contract wasn't breached even after that and is ready to take it to court.

Grayson's New Girl Reminds Jane of Her Old Self on 'Drop Dead Diva' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 22nd 2011 6:26AM
'Drop Dead Diva' - 'You Bet Your Life'It must be difficult to have to work with the man you were once engaged to. But imagine how much more difficult it would be to see that man with a woman who is everything you used to be. That's the world Jane found herself in this week on 'Drop Dead Diva' (Sun., 9PM ET on Lifetime).

To make matters worse, she actually knew Grayson's new girlfriend, Cassie, back when she was Deb. "We took acting classes together. And we auditioned for the same roles. We were a lot alike," she admitted.

The problem is that she now thinks Grayson is better than to date some as shallow as she was, and Cassie still is. Fred told her it was because she had higher expectations of herself now and therefore had higher expectations for Grayson. If only he had them for himself as well, she wouldn't have any of these problems.

Eddie's Low Blow Sends Anna Off in Tears on 'Russian Dolls' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 19th 2011 6:10AM
'Russian Dolls'Television can teach you things. Just like 'Jersey Shore' is teaching us -- Well, we're still not sure what we're learning from that show, but 'Russian Dolls' (Thu., 10PM ET on Lifetime) is teaching us about Russian culture.

This week we learned that you do not discuss a man's financial situation. Anna cracked a joke at Eddie's expense that he didn't have any money, after he said he'd put his money on Anastasia in a fight between the two women.

"Believe me, I got more money than you, you fake model," he said. "Your little modeling school with twelve-year olds is nothing." Anna runs a modeling school, so Eddie's digs hurt her particularly hard and she left in tears.

Julie Unleashes a 'Droat' on the Judges of 'Project Runway' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 19th 2011 5:34AM
'Project Runway'Designing a day-to-night look for Nina Garcia, fashion director for 'Hell' magazine, was the challenge presented to the contestants on 'Project Runway' (Thu., 9PM ET on Lifetime). And Garcia was on hand to give them lots of guidance and tell them that all their ideas were terrible. Should make for a fun episode, right?

!!SPOILER ALERT!!

In the end, simple was better, and shapely was far better than ... well, whatever it was that Julie came up with. 'Marie Claire' editor-in-chief Joanna Coles dubbed it a droat as it was best described as almost a dress and almost a coat, but not really the best of either. What it wasn't was liked by anyone, except for Julie.

The 'Picker Sisters' Show When Haggling Gets Easy (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 17th 2011 12:44AM
'Picker Sisters'The art of haggling may be lost to most people in this modern era, but for the 'Picker Sisters' (Tue., 10PM ET on Lifetime), it's a way of life. The show follows 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' designers Tracy Hutson and Tanya McQueen as they travel the country in search of items they can turn into one-of-a-kind treasures.

They thought they might have found a match in a man who had a piece of log they wanted. He started them off at $1200 and balked at her $750 counter-offer. Instead, he dropped to $960. But when the girls stepped off to talk about it, hoping to maybe get him to $900, he must have panicked.

"What about $800?" he blurted out abruptly. We can only imagine his chagrin when he watches the playback and realizes his $100 blunder.

Kathy Griffin and Margaret Cho Spar Over Almond Milk on 'Drop Dead Diva' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 15th 2011 2:11AM
Kathy Griffin, 'Drop Dead Diva'Fans of 'Drop Dead Diva' (Sun., 10PM ET on Lifetime) know that Kim can be catty with Jane, and pretty much everyone else on the show. What we learned this week, is that this behavior is a family trait, as Kathy Griffin guest-starred as her sister.

When Teri (Margaret Cho) catches Griffin drinking the last of her almond milk out of the refrigerator, even though it was clearly labeled with her name, Griffin offered no apologies. When asked if she was planning to replace it, she said, "I would tell you to have your assistant buy you another carton, but I can tell by your shoes that you are the assistant."

The two comedians threw a few barbs back and forth, with Cho getting in jabs about Griffin's plastic surgery and wardrobe choices. Griffin is certainly having a bit of a renaissance on television right now, appearing in shows across the dial.

Diana Dumps Paul Because He's Not Russian on the 'Russian Dolls' Premiere (VIDEO)

by Laura Prudom, posted Aug 12th 2011 1:45AM
Russian Dolls - DianaThe course of true love (or casual dating) never did run smooth, and apparently a Russian dating a non-Russian makes things even bumpier, according to 'Russian Dolls' (Thurs., 10PM ET on Lifetime).

The new show follows the trials and tribulations of eight Russian-Americans living in Brooklyn's Brighton Beach neighborhood, but time will tell if it plans to go the way of 'Jersey Shore'.

Episode one introduced us to (among others) Diana, a blonde 23 year-old who has aspirations of marrying by the time she's 25. Unfortunately for her boyfriend Paul, a Spaniard, her husband criteria seemed to be fairly narrow: Russian.

'Russian Dolls' Star Promises to Put Brighton Beach & Partying, Russian Style, on the Map

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 11th 2011 3:00PM
Marina Levitis, Russian DollsWhile the 'Jersey Shore' kids get their GTL on in Italy tonight, Lifetime will broadcast the adventures of another subset of American culture: the animal print-clad characters of Brooklyn's Russian-American Brighton Beach neighborhood.

'Russian Dolls' (premieres Thu., Aug. 11, 10:30PM ET on Lifetime) was originally conceived as another addition to the 'Real Housewives' franchise, but since Lifetime picked up the show it's been getting comparisons to our favorite Macaroni Rascals.

Star Marina Levitis seems to bridge the gap between 'Jersey Shore' and 'Housewives.' The 34-year-old is raising two children, a 13-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, with her husband, Michael, but is intimately familiar with the nightlife as co-owner of the famous Russian nightclub Rasputin, located in Brighton Beach.

The soon-to-be reality star, who immigrated to America 20 years ago, called AOL TV while en route to a photo shoot for Steppin' Out magazine -- she's going to be on the cover -- and chatted about how she became involved in the show, whether 'Russian Dolls' actually is anything like 'Jersey Shore,' and what her kids think about the TV cameras following them around.
