Katee Sackhoff on 'Longmire,' Saying Goodbye to Starbuck and Her 'Plan'

katee sackhoff'Battlestar Galactica' alum Katee Sackhoff may be best-known amongst the sci-fi nerd sect, but the charismatic blonde actress has appeared in several prime-time shows and is gearing up to begin a new, big venture on A&E's 'Longmire,' in which she gets top billing.

AOL TV caught up with Sackhoff as she worked the Comic-Con/Fan Expo circuit to promote her voicework in the feature-length animated film, 'Batman: Year One.' We spoke to her about saying goodbye to 'Battlestar' and Starbuck for good, 'Longmire' and why it's so tough in Hollywood these days.

A&E Orders 'Longmire' to Series

Katee SackhoffAttention 'Battlestar Galactica' fans: Katee Sackhoff is returning to TV in a series regular role!

According to the Hollywood Reporter, A&E has ordered 10 episodes 'Longmire,' a new series about a widowed sheriff in Wyoming. Sackhoff will play one of his deputies. The series also stars Robert Taylor, Lou DIamond Phillips, Bailey Chase and Cassidy Freeman.

The series is based on Craig Allen Johnson's Walt Longmire series of novels.

Aaron Sorkin to Guest As Himself on '30 Rock,' Son of 'Real Housewives' Star to Guest on 'Glee' and More

According to Entertainment Weekly, the Oscar nominee will play himself in an episode set to air this spring.

Will he finally put to rest the 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip' / '30 Rock' weirdness? Time will tell.

The 'West Wing' creator has appeared on screen before. Besides a cameo in 'The Social Network,' he recently popped up on 'Entourage.'

In other casting news ...

Grayson Smiley, son of 'Real Housewives of Orange County' fixture Slade Smiley, will appear on tonight's episode of 'Glee.' Grayson, who has a rare form of brain cancer, will pop up in a scene where the characters perform at a children's hospital. [The Orange County Register]

Robert Taylor has been cast in A&E's 'Longmire.' The 'Matrix' actor will play Walt Longmire, a widowed sheriff in Absaroka County, Wyo. The series is based on Craig Johnson's series of mystery novels. [Deadline Hollywood]

Tommy Dewey will star opposite Gary Cole in Fox's 'Tagged' pilot. The 'Sons of Tucson' actor will play Wally Percy, son of Gary Cole's coroner character James Percy. [Deadline Hollywood]

Marc Cherry Preps 'Hallelujah,' ABC's Heidi Jones Arrested and More

Marc CherryCan Marc Cherry do for faith what he did for the suburban housewife? The 'Desperate Housewives' creator is at work on a new series, 'Hallelujah,' based on a small town that is being torn apart by the forces of good and evil.

According to Variety, things change in Hallelujah, Tenn. when a stranger comes to town and brings in peace, justice and faith.

Cherry has been with 'Desperate Housewives' since its launch in 2004 and is contracted until 2013, but the stars are only signed until the end of this season. The creator also has a two-year deal with ABC.

In other TV news ...

WABC weather anchor Heidi Jones was arrested for filing a false police report. The weather anchor, who regularly fills in on 'Good Morning America,' was charged with a Class A misdemeanor for filing a report that a man tried to rape her in Central Park. She faces up to a year in jail or a $1,000 fine. [NY Post]

The first 'American Idol' promo poster has been released. Those new judges certainly seem happy. [EW]

A&E has ordered pilots for two hour-long dramas. 'Big Mike,' from Happy Madison and Sony Pictures TV, follows a plus-sized detective with the San Diego Police Department. He's an ace detective with a crappy romantic life. The other project, 'Longmire,' is based on the 'Walt Longmire Mystery' novels by Craig Johnson, about a small-town sheriff. [Deadline Hollywood]
