Jon Hamm Gets New Gig with Mercedes

by Danny Gallagher, posted Mar 3rd 2010 8:29PM
Don't you just love it when life sort of imitates art?

Jon Hamm, who plays the chain smoking Don Draper on TV's 'Mad Men,' has been hired by Mercedes Benz as a pitchman for their car commercials, which will premiere during the Academy Awards.

This means, of course, that Mr. Hamm will replace actor Richard Thomas who has done the voiceover for Mercedes' car commercials for the last four years. Good night Jon-Boy.

The company's marketing VP Stephen Cannon called Hamm "a hot actor." That must have been one awkward audition.

You've read Allison's review and Joel's take on the Mad Men season finale, and I'd just like to add that I think it was the best episode of any TV series I've seen in years. Mad Men
So how are you celebrating the season finale of Mad Men tonight? I'm doing it the same way I do it every single Sunday night at 10, with a Mad Men party! Of course, my party consists of me and an alcoholic beverage, but still!

There are a lot of people who having parties tonight, including the cool ladies over at Basket of Kisses, who are throwing a bash at Phoenix Park in New York City. Noir Bar at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge, MA is having a season finale party, too, with retro drinks and snacks and even a lookalike contest with prizes. I bet there are a lot of bars in your local area that are having parties as well, so I'd check if you feel like dressing up and going out instead of being plopped on your couch tonight.

While we continue to wait for creator Matthew Weiner and some of the actors of Mad Men to re-sign for a third season of the show (really, I'm not worried at all, it will happen), let's talk about this Sunday's second season finale of the show, titled "Meditations In An Emergency."

Don is in California, being more Dick than Don, playing house with Anna Draper and baptizing himself in the waters of the Pacific. I think the big question for the season finale is what exactly is Don going to do? Is he going to stay out in California, running away from his responsibilities and change his name again, like he did after Korea? Or is Anna going to convince him to go back to his life in New York, back to Betty and his kids?

And what about Betty? Will she take him back, or has she become a woman now, finally, and on to the next chapter in her life?
