Backstage Interviews at 'Dancing With the Stars': Wendy Williams on Her Elimination

by Michael Maloney, posted Apr 6th 2011 7:00AM
'DWTS' Season 12 Week 3 Elimination: Wendy WilliamsSurprise eliminations on 'Dancing With the Stars' aren't unusual. And, then, there are weeks in which the obvious contestant gets the boot. That's what happened last night when Wendy Williams, who'd scored a mere 15 points in Week Three, was sent packing.

The talk show diva was the first to admit that she's not a dancer, and her Foxtrot on Monday night proved her point. She earned a mere 15 points, down two points from her Week Two routine.

Williams and her pro partner, Tony Dovolani, spoke to reporters on the post-show press line. TV Squad was on the scene to get the scoop directly from the duo about their thoughts and feelings about being eliminated and their plans for the future.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Explains 'DWTS' Fall on 'GMA' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 5th 2011 10:45AM
On 'Dancing With the Stars' last night, Maksim Chmerkovskiy dropped partner Kirstie Alley while performing the rumba, explaining afterward that his "thigh just gave out" and that the fall had nothing to do with her.

Chmerkovskiy further clarified the blunder on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC), claiming that he suffered from a leg cramp. "It was ... like a charley horse. You know, it just gave out," he said.

Backstage Interviews at 'Dancing With the Stars': Maks and Kirstie on Their Week Three Fall

by Michael Maloney, posted Apr 5th 2011 7:00AM
Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy"Personal story" night always yields some heartfelt moments on 'Dancing With the Stars' and last night's installment of that theme was no exception as several stars cut open some veins, revealing stories of deep personal loss. They then incorporated those stories into their dances.

The decisions that the stars and dancers made yielded some interesting results: Hines Ward and Petra Nemcova tied for first place, taking the top position from previous front-runner Ralph Macchio.

But the most dramatic moment of last night's performance was when Maksim Chmerkovskiy suffered a spasm in his thigh, which sent him and partner Kirstie Alley to the dance floor, shortly after they began their dance.

The Ukrainian-born ballroom bad boy and comedic actress extraordinaire quickly composed themselves, however, and resumed their rumba to 'Over the Rainbow,' earning applause from the audience and classy comments from the judges, who praised them for their inspiring comeback.

After the show, the stars and their pro dance partners reflected on the highs and lows of the evening. TV Squad was on the scene to get the scoop.

Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy Take a Tumble on 'Dancing With the Stars' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 5th 2011 12:50AM
Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, 'Dancing with the Stars'It may not have looked like a massive tumble, but Maksim Chmerkovskiy clearly injured something rather painfully toward the beginning of his Rumba with Kirstie Alley on 'Dancing with the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC) this week. According to Chmerkovskiy, his "thigh just gave out."

In a number filled with emotional meaning for Alley, it was a shame they got off to such a shaky start.

Even after they recovered their feet, Chmerkovskiy held off a couple of beats as he grimaced in obvious discomfort. But then he regained himself and his partner, and they continued the dance.

Will Mike Catherwood Go From 'Dancing With the Stars' to 'The Bachelor'?

by Michael Maloney, posted Mar 30th 2011 11:30AM
Lacey Schwimmer and Mike CatherwoodIt wasn't too shocking that 'Psycho' Mike Catherwood, a Los Angeles–based disc jockey, was the first celebrity sent packing last night on season 12 of 'Dancing With the Stars.' After all, he earned the lowest combined score after two dances.

His pro partner, Lacey Schwimmer, who went all the way to the finals last season, now finds herself as the first dancer to exit the show. On the plus side, the dancer/singer got to meet Britney Spears last night since she was a guest on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live.' (Ejected stars and dancers are invited to appear on the late-night talk show the night that they're voted off the program.)

Before the couple headed to Hollywood to appear on Kimmel's show, they chatted with TV Squad on the post-show press line to talk about their 'DWTS' experience and plans for the future -- specifically, would Catherwood be the new 'Bachelor' on ABC?

"I had planned it, but I wanted to surprise him," Alley told 'Access Hollywood''s Shaun Robinson.

"I had no idea," said Chmerkovskiy.

Backstage Interviews at 'Dancing With the Stars': Week One Was 'Terrifying'

by Michael Maloney, posted Mar 22nd 2011 9:00AM
Karina Smirnoff and Ralph MacchioRalph Macchio, 49, and Kirstie Alley, 60, are two of the older contestants on season 12 of 'Dancing With the Stars,' but after the first night of dancing they took early leads with top scores of, respectively, 24 and 23.

The star of 'The Karate Kid' and his pro partner, Karina Smirnoff, performed a Foxtrot that judge Len Goodman called the best one of the night.

Macchio's an actor; did that play a role in how successfully he embraced his part on the dance floor?

"Yes. Dancing is like acting only you use your body," said Smirnoff. "It allows him tap into the character so much better."

"[Acting] is less painful," joked Macchio. "Less painful."

'DWTS': Kirstie Alley Surprises With a Fun and Great Cha-Cha-Cha (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 22nd 2011 12:13AM
Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy, 'Dancing With the Stars'Kendra Wilkinson may have had the oddsmakers in her corner before this new season of 'Dancing with the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC), but it was Kirstie Alley that had us all eating out of her hands with an irreverent Cha-cha-cha.

Along with her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Alley brought a lot of fun and silliness to the dance floor. Even more impressively, she brought foot placement that Bruno Tonioli declared "the best of the night."

Also the best was their score of 23 in the Cha-cha-cha category (Wilkinson scored only 18). In fact, only Ralph Macchio's Foxtrot was stronger, and that by only one point.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Is 'The Bachelor' ... in Ukraine!

by Kelly Woo, posted Jan 7th 2011 1:00PM
Maksim Chmerkovskiy The Bachelor UkraineSexy 'Dancing With the Stars' pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy has steamed up the dance floor with Brandy Norwood, Erin Andrews and Mel B, but now he's taking his moves to the Ukraine to win the heart of one lucky lady in that country's version of 'The Bachelor.'

On his website, Chmerkovskiy wrote that he turned down ABC's American 'Bachelor' (which, if true, means Brad Womack was their third choice, since 'Bachelorette' runner-up Chris Lambton also declined). And though he had previously declared he'd never go on a dating reality TV show, he defended his choice by writing, "This is the first thing in a VERY LONG TIME that I'm doing for ME. For the first time I don't really care what people think. First time that I'm not being 'judged', 'placed' or 'criticized.'"

Carrie Ann Inaba: 'DWTS' Should Have Same-Sex Couples! (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Nov 18th 2010 7:11AM
Carrie Ann Inaba: 'DWTS' Should Have Same-Sex Couples! On 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights, 12AM ET on TBS), 'Dancing With the Stars' judge Carrie Ann Inaba discussed a potentially controversial idea. She feels that 'DWTS' shoud have same-sex partners on the show.

Previously, dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy "came out" in favor of this plan. (That's just a bad pun, by the way. Carrie and Maks are straight, but they support gay rights, and want the show to broaden its appeal.)

While talking with George Lopez, Carrie expressed her belief that men and women should be able to dance together. She backed up this belief with a piece of personal history. Ms. Inaba has some experience with dancing with another lady -- and with making out with one too. The lady in question is a pretty famous one ... she goes by the name of "Madonna."

On the 'DWTS' Scene: Brandy Is 'Numb' Over Her Shocking Exit

by Michael Maloney, posted Nov 17th 2010 11:00AM
Mark Ballas, Bristol Palin, Brooke Burke, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Brandy NorwoodSeason 11 of 'Dancing With the Stars' has had more than its share of shocking exits, but none more than Brandy Norwood and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy being sent home on last night's results show.

Many predicted that the singer would advance to the finals, but her surprise departure means that teen activist Bristol Palin, who not only entered the contest with no dance or performing experience but also scored consistently low with the judges, is going to the final round along with actress Jennifer Grey and actor Kyle Massey.

The three finalist duos walked the post-show press line, understandably enthusiastic over their victories, but members of the press had one question on their minds: How has Palin managed to make it to the finals?

"I've known that I've worked hard to get to where I am now," Palin said. "I definitely feel like I'm one of the most improved dancers on the show."

Kimmel Talks Conspiracy Theories with Brandy, Maks After 'DWTS' Cast-Off (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Nov 17th 2010 4:45AM
Brandy and Maks Talk 'DWTS' on 'Kimmel Live'Jimmy Kimmel is outraged by America's vote to eliminate Brandy Norwood and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy from 'Dancing With the Stars.' The pair had scored well all season and garnered their first perfect 30 the previous night. Meanwhile, Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas earned lower scores but remain in the competition.

On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12:05AM ET on ABC), the host tried to draw some anger out of Brandy, but she was very gracious, saying the experience had restored her confidence. "I believe more in myself now." Kimmel countered, "This would destroy my confidence."

He then brought up the conspiracy theories: "Do you believe there is an organized tea party voting bloc? Maksim, you're from Russia, right, you know about these blocs and this sort of thing," he joked. "I blame America for this!"
