Will Maksim Chmerkovskiy Perform on the 'Dancing With the Stars' Finale?

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 21st 2011 7:20AM
This season of 'Dancing With the Stars' has had more than the usual amount of controversy, and a lot of it has come courtesy of clearly exasperated pro dancer -- and resident bad boy -- Maksim Chmerkovskiy. He's seemed dangerously close to boiling point all season and last week capped off an on-air altercation with judge Carrie Ann Inaba by dropping the f-bomb when talking about her to reporters.

Although Maks and partner Hope Solo's bad-tempered and uneven run on the show has come to an end, they're still due to perform on Tuesday night's live finale when each of this season's 12 couples returns to the dance floor for a special performance. But will they show up? After their elimination Maks and Hope were conspicuously absent from the post-show press lineup, and he rattled fans by writing in his blog: "What's next for me? I have no immediate plans at the moment. I'm not even sure if we're going to be at the finale!"

More Backstage Drama at 'Dancing With the Stars'

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 16th 2011 6:40AM
'DWTS' S13 semi-finals eliminationThis season of 'Dancing With the Stars' has its share of controversy. We've had Nipplegate, injuries, accusations of nepotism, dancers feuding with judges, dancers feuding with each other ... Now it's been reported that the strain of last night's semi-finals elimination all proved to be just too much for one dancer.

Each week the dancers go backstage and chat to reporters on the post-show press line, but last night one couple was conspicuously absent. According to E! Online, one half of the eliminated couple "was so upset about [their] elimination from the competition that she was unable to hold it together for interviews."

!!SPOILER ALERT!! If you don't know want to know who was eliminated last night, you might want to stop reading right about now.

Len Goodman Speaks Out on His 'Dancing' Feud With Maks Chmerkovskiy (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 25th 2011 2:00PM
Everyone's buzzing about the feud that erupted between Maks Chmerkovskiy and 'Dancing With the Stars' judge Len Goodman when Maks forcefully pushed back against Goodman's critique of his latest dance with Hope Solo.

Goodman stopped by 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC) to offer his perspective on the argument. "How often, in the heat of the moment, we say things that the next day we think 'why did I say that?'" he asked. "Maks is going through that right now."

Goodman isn't taking the back-and-forth personally, though. "I like Maks, we're good buddies, we play golf together," Goodman noted, before taking a jab at Maks' golf-swing. He then further clarified the judges' role on 'DWTS.' "What they've got to understand is ... they're on trial, and we're the judges. You can't be a judge at your own trial," Goodman said.

Does 'DWTS' Head Judge Len Goodman Need a Vacation?

by Catherine Lawson, posted Oct 25th 2011 9:20AM
Len Goodman, 'DWTS'Is the strain of his heavy workload and weekly transatlantic commute starting to take its toll on 'Dancing With the Stars' head judge Len Goodman? He and Bruno Tonioli have a punishing schedule, pulling double duty judging 'DWTS' during the week, and then flying back to the UK to judge the BBC's 'Strictly Come Dancing' at the weekend.

Now Len's had blow-ups with pro dancers on both shows in the space of just a few days. Is he crankier than usual? Last night he and Maksim Chmerkovskiy had a major falling out after Maks interrupted Len's harsh critique of his rumba. That bust up followed a furious on-air altercation with 'Strictly' dancer James Jordan on Saturday night, during which Len told him, "All you have to do is turn up, keep up and shut up."

Is an irascible Len overdue for a vacation? Well, luckily for him he'd already booked one before it got nasty on the dancefloor(s). It's been announced that Len is taking a week off from 'Strictly' next month, and subbing-in for him as guest judge on Nov. 5 and 6 will be none other than 'DWTS' Season 11 champ, Jennifer Grey.

Maks vs. Len: 'Dancing With the Stars' Contestants Speak Out

by Catherine Lawson, posted Oct 25th 2011 6:15AM
Maks and Hope Solo, 'DWTS'The oft-shirtless Maksim Chmerkovskiy's always filled the role of 'Dancing With the Stars' bad boy, and he can be relied upon to have at least one big outburst each season, with his anger usually directed toward head judge Len Goodman. Last night he reached boiling point and again lashed out at Len after he criticized Maks' and partner Hope Solo's rumba.

When Maks questioned Len's credentials, the head judge said "I've been in this business for nearly 50 years," to which Maks quipped "Maybe it's time to go." Things escalated after Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli tried to intervene, and Maks said "Everybody on that balcony has been dying and killing themselves only to hear your guy's a little judgmental comments [sic]. ... I am not being disrespectful, I'm protecting my partner."

Up until that point it was just between Maks and the judges, but then did the Ukrainian take it too far? When he told host Brooke Charvet that "With all due respect, this is my show, I help make it what it is," the look on fellow pro dancer Derek Hough's face in the background was priceless. So, what did the other dancers think of his outburst? And does Maks regret saying what he did?

Hope Solo Calls Maks Chmerkovskiy the 'Girliest Man' She's Ever Met (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 14th 2011 6:00PM
Maks Chmerkovskiy specializes in having flirty rivalries with his female 'Dancing With the Stars' partners. Last season, he and Kirstey Alley had a strange, unsettling chemistry that nobody could quite figure out. This year, he's been paired with the significantly younger and hotter Hope Solo, but she doesn't appear susceptible to the charms of the man who calls himself "sex on a stick."

On 'Good Day LA' (weekdays, 7AM ET on Fox) Solo, the former goalie of the U.S. Women's Soccer team, said she tried putting Maks in goal, but his jeans were too tight for him to move quickly. Hope also shared that when they first met, she told him Maks he was "the girliest man" she'd ever met.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Charms His 'H8R' Through Dance (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 6th 2011 1:30AM
Maksim Chmerkosvskiy, 'H8R'Maksim Chmerkovskiy was the target of Rebecca's vitriol on 'H8R' (Wed., 8PM ET on ABC). She'd decided, based on seeing him on 'Dancing With the Stars,' that he was way too full of himself and that she therefore couldn't stand him.

But Chmerkovskiy knows the way to a woman's heart is through her feet. He dressed Rebecca up in one of those frilly almost-there dresses the women wear on 'Dancing' and gave her a cha-cha-cha she'll not soon forget. In fact, he quite literally had her swooning by the end.

In fact, she decided that she was no longer a hater, but now a lover. "Better look out or I'll go into heat," she laughed.

'Dancing With the Stars' Week 3 Elimination Shocks the Judges (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 5th 2011 12:00AM
'Dancing With the Stars' Week 3 ResultsAccording to Len Goodman on the 'Dancing With the Stars' (Tue., 9PM ET on ABC) results show for this third week, "My expectations were that these two couples would be fighting for the final and maybe one of them going home with the mirrorball." He was talking about the two couples left standing in threat of elimination.

!!SPOILER ALERT!!

That said, though, neither of them had the highest scores on the previous night. However, they didn't have the lowest scores either. What they clearly lacked was a large enough fan base. Or maybe, as Tom Bergeron suggested, everyone just assumed they were safe.

Is the Rivalry Between Maksim and Val Chmerkovskiy on 'Dancing With the Stars' Real?

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 20th 2011 8:00AM
Maks and Val ChmerkovskiyForget about rivalries between celebrities on this season of 'Dancing With the Stars' -- there's definitely a sense of competition between Maksim Chmerkovskiy and his kid brother Val, who's one of the show's new pro dancers.

Val showed that the gloves (or rather the shirts) are off when he made his entrance on last night's premiere by descending the stairs bare-chested.

Prior to dancing the cha-cha with his celebrity partner, model/TV host Elisabetta Canalis, Val said that he'd given his brother ten seasons to win the mirrorball trophy, but that since he hasn't taken it home, well, Val was just going to have to do it himself. (Ouch!)

Is this just some brotherly banter to rile up the audience or is Val trying to dethrone Maks as the "bad boy of the ballroom?"

'Dancing With the Stars' Runners-Up Visit 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted May 26th 2011 1:00PM
Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kirstie Alley on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy seemed to have developed the closest relationship of any of the celebrity/dancer couples on 'Dancing With the Stars' this season, and it showed today on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated). They appeared on the show along with Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas, the other runners-up from Tuesday's results show.

Even though Alley and Chmerkovskiy lost the Mirrorball Trophy to Hines Ward, Chmerkovskiy said he was happy with how they finished. Alley, not so much. "I think you're an idiot," she said as Chmerkovskiy rolled his eyes. "When you don't get it ... I realize that it's just a Mirrorball, but I was devastated."

Ballas has already won two, one fewer than Derek Hough, who is Regis Philbin's partner of choice, should he ever get on the show.

'Dancing With the Stars' Finalists Talk About the Season (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted May 25th 2011 1:15PM
Hines Ward and Kym Johnson on 'Dancing With the Stars'Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward took home the Mirrorball Trophy last night on 'Dancing With the Stars,' and today he and his fellow finalists were on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM on ABC) talking about this past season.

Ward revealed that dancing scared him so much that he has generally avoided it altogether. "I've never danced in my whole life," he said. "I was so scared I didn't even go to my prom."

Kirstie Alley
said it was the hardest she's worked in her life, and she has the weight loss to prove it.

And to prove they hadn't had enough of dancing yet, Ward, Alley, Kym Johnson, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Chelsea Kane, Mark Ballas and the 'GMA' crew got out on a dance floor for a bit of a free-for-all. And that was after apparently taking an overnight flight to get to the show. Then again, now no one is judging them when they dance, except perhaps the audience.

'DWTS' Backstage Q&A: Hines Ward and Kym Johnson on Winning the Mirrorball Trophy!

by Michael Maloney, posted May 25th 2011 7:00AM
Kym Johnson and Hines WardWith the scores among the three finalists in 'Dancing With the Stars' being so close it was going to come down to who had the strongest fan base. In the end, the Steeler Nation, the fan base of the pro football team that Hines Ward plays for in Pittsburgh, turned out to be stronger than all the 'Cheers' and 'Disney' fans.

Ward and his partner Kym Johnson took home the coveted mirrorball trophy. Emmy-winning actress Kirstie Alley and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy came in second. Disney star Chelsea Kane and partner Mark Ballas, who was celebrating his 25th birthday yesterday, came in third.

Immediately after the show, the ballroom dance floor turned into a media frenzy. ABC publicists quickly set up a press line with a white, plastic chain-link fence, separated by poles, with press on one side, stars and dancers on the other, and a flurry of interviews began.

AOL TV was on the scene to talk to the new champions, the runner-ups and other Season 12 participants.

'DWTS' Backstage Q&A: Kirstie Alley, Chelsea Kane and Hines Ward Dish the Finals

by Michael Maloney, posted May 24th 2011 7:00AM
Kirstie Alley, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Kym Johnson, Hines Ward, Chelse Kane, Mark BallasMany times the winner of 'Dancing With the Stars' is predictable. Season 11's Jennifer Grey and Season 6's Kristi Yamaguchi were favored to win their respective seasons and, sure enough, both emerged as winners.

But this season, it's been nearly impossible to predict who's going to win.

Kirstie Alley trails both Chelsea Kane and Hines Ward (who are tied for first place) by a mere five points going into tonight's finale, but the former 'Cheers' actress has probably the biggest fan base of the three finalists. (Let's not forget that she played a Vulcan in fan favorite 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.')

Ward is a crowd favorite and has sports fans everywhere rooting for him. Kane, a Disney star, is likely supported by younger viewers, who may be more savvy when it comes to voting on-line.

The three finalists and their pro dance partners weighed in on their performances on last night's post-show press line, and AOL TV was on the scene to get their reactions.

EXCLUSIVE! Is Maksim Chmerkovskiy Leaving 'Dancing With the Stars?'

by Michael Maloney, posted May 24th 2011 4:30AM
Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kirstie AlleyIt seems that Season 13 of 'Dancing With the Stars' could be a very unlucky one for fans of pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

After the finals last night AOL TV asked the bad boy of the ballroom if he'll be returning to the show when it comes back for its next installment (likely in mid-September.)

"I don't know," he shared. "It takes a lot out of you. When you invest that much of you into something that's supposed to be just work you [can] get misinterpreted. I don't know [if I'm coming back]. We'll see. Right now, I'm drained."

Chmerkovskiy, who joined the show in Season 2, has taken a break from 'DWTS' before, sitting out Season 6 back in 2008.
