The Flintstones (and the Rubbles) are headed for Broadway

The FlintstonesThis news has part of me saying "great, this should be fun!" and the other part of me saying, "oh God, please don't have Mr. Slate making a sex tape with Wilma."

Marco Pennette is writing a Broadway musical version of The Flintstones, and this version is supposed to involve modern-day topics such as marriage problems, adoption, and the environment. Now, this could be good, in a Brady Bunch Movie sort of way, if they really play it for laughs. It could be horrible if they don't.

Crumbs pilotThose of you who saw Crumbs on Thursday know that the family depicted in the show is "based on a true story." But, given some of the "adjustments" that have been made to true stories these days, how close was the show to the actual story? Pretty close, if this article in the New York Daily News is any indication. In it, series creator Marco Pennette tells writer Richard Huff about some of the incidents that were either depicted or alluded to in the pilot (like his mother running over his father after he left her), and how the pilot script came to fruition. Even if you think, like I did, Crumbs is an intriguing premise that's hancuffed by generic sitcom writing, you'll find this article an interesting read.
