Judge Marilyn Milian Says It's Hard Finding Good Cases for 'People's Court' (VIDEO)
by Donald Deane, posted Feb 24th 2011 1:00PM
Judge Marilyn Milian of 'The People's Court' said that, given her many years of experience in the legal system, she's not surprised that people are naive enough to air their dirty laundry on the courtroom show. And yet, it's hard finding good cases, she said on 'The Rachael Ray Show' (weekdays, syndicated)."It's hard to get good cases. It's not that it's so easy and people are lining up to humiliate themselves nationally," said Milian.
A Very Unexpected Roommate on 'The People's Court' (VIDEO)

Getting a new apartment is always a tricky affair. Does the shower work properly? Is the hot water hot enough? Is the AC cold? ... Is there a strange man living in the middle of the apartment? The last issue is the one that comes up on 'The People's Court' (weekdays, syndicated). Judge Marilyn Milian has to deal with a young woman who is suing her landlord -- because some weird stuff happens when the girl moves into her new place.
The judge is willing to sympathize with the landlord to a certain extent. The apartment is dirty? Okay, that's not so bad. The lock on the bathroom door doesn't work? Not so great, but understandable.
... But then it is revealed that there's a strange man living in the place, and no one told the new girl. That's not cool. That's going to be a deal-breaker. Judge Milian points out that living with a dude kind of sucks even when you already know the guy. But a strange, unexpected guy in your new home for no reason? Bad, very bad. The judge orders the landlord to give the money back. Case closed!
'People's Court' Judge Marilyn Milian Loses Her Cool (VIDEO)

Judge Marilyn Milian lays into a plaintiff for trusting a 22-year-old man with no money to pay rent on 'The People's Court' (weekdays, syndicated). Milian harshly criticizes the plaintiff for counting on the young tenant to receive financial support from his family. "You are a 57-year-old adult and you ended up trusting that a 22-year-old, who has no money, would end up paying rent for six months, because you hoped he'd get it from his folks? I mean, that's just goofy. That's beyond goofy," she said.

Judging nine TV judges

Not to worry -- this isn't about Simon, Randy, or Paula. I'm not talking American Idol here. Nah, I'm talking real people, real cases, true litigants ... and so much more! You see, I'm generally off from my day job one weekday a week. Of course I have to watch television. It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it, right?I just never got into soap operas. Well, there was that period decades ago when I spent the summer home with a broken foot before the advent of the internet. But I digress. What I watch these days during the daytime hours tend to be the judge shows. Well, to digress a moment again -- WGN airs Homicide: Life on the Street at noon here. I can't miss that, of course. But then it's justice served. Who judges the judges? I do, naturally!
