Rose McGowan Plays a Swinger on 'Law & Order: SVU' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Mar 24th 2011 5:25AM
Rose McGowan Plays a Swinger on 'Law & Order: SVU'Ah, "undercover" forays into the sexy, sexy world of strip clubs and swinger clubs. Where would police procedural dramas be without them? After all, trips to dark nightclubs filled with scantily-clad women help to break up the monotony of your more "standard" crimes -- you know, murder and arson and such.

On the new 'Law & Order: SVU' (Wed., 10PM ET on NBC), Detectives Stabler and Benson (Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay) enter the steamy world of a swingers' club, posing as a sexy couple in order to investigate the murder of a swinger. Is this plausible? No. Is this something that real detectives ever do? Double no.

But it does give us a chance to see sultry Rose McGowan -- of 'Charmed' fame -- wearing a low-cut dress in her guest-starring role as a fellow swinger. So, that's nice.

Will 'Law & Order: SVU' Return for Season 13?

by Chris Harnick, posted Feb 10th 2011 10:10AM
Mariska Hargitay, Chris Meloni, Law and Order: SVUIt's that time again: Contract negotiations have begun with the stars of NBC's 'Law & Order: SVU.'

Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni are only contracted through the end of season 12, but according to departing showrunner Neal Baer, the show will likely return for a season 13.

"[Harigtay and Meloni are] as committed to playing Olivia and Elliot as they were the first day I walked in and saw them in the interrogation room," Baer told TVLine. "It's an amazing thing that never lags. [Mariska and Chris] are so professional and the ultimate artists in that they're there to realize their characters, making them as strong, believable and compelling as possible. And there aren't a lot of opportunities to do that [in television]."

Mariska Hargitay Previews 'Gray,' Talks Detective Benson's New Mother Role

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 15th 2010 4:30PM
Mariska HargitayAfter 12 seasons, 'Law & Order: SVU' Detectives Olivia Benson (Mariska Harigtay) and Eliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) have put away hundreds of rapists, protected countless children and solved more "ripped from the headlines" crimes than you can imagine.

In the Nov. 17 episode, a young college girl accuses a classmate of rape during a university's Take Back the Night-esque rally. Benson and Stabler, who are speakers at the event, step in to crack the case.

"The episode is called 'Gray,'" Hargitay told AOL's TV Squad. "It's about the gray area of what is rape and what is not, what's consensual and what happens, how gray things become when people drink. The fact is, non-consensual sex is rape. It's an issue that comes up when somebody is drinking."

The Emmy-winning actress sat down with TV Squad to discuss the very prevalent and sometimes-ignored issue of college date rape, her Joyful Heart foundation and what's ahead for Olivia Benson this year.

The Women of 'Law & Order: SVU' Speak Out

by Mariska Hargitay, posted Nov 11th 2010 11:00PM
Christine Lahit, Mariska Hargitay[Editor's note: 'Law & Order: SVU' has never been a show to shy away from touchy subjects. In the Nov. 17 episode, 'Gray,' Detectives Detectives Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Christopher Meloni) meet a young woman who claims to have been the victim of date rape by her classmate. The case becomes muddled when its revealed that the two had been drinking and partying the night of the alleged rape.

The women of 'Law & Order: SVU' -- Mariska Hargitay, Christine Lahti (ADA Sonya Paxton) and Allison Siko (Kathleen Stabler) -- spoke out about rape, the staggering statistics and what needs to be done about these crimes. Without further ado, Mariska Hargitay ...]

This episode is one that is very close to my heart. Given that rape is the most common violent crime on campuses, it is likely that someone you know and love was a victim of sexual violence during college. Its true for me -- people I care deeply about were raped in college. So many of the letters I receive from fans are from women who were raped in college. In fact, we know that one out of four female students will be sexually assaulted before she graduates.

'Law & Order: SVU': Another Link in the Chain (VIDEO)

'Law & Order: SVU': Another Link in the ChainInvestigating a grizzly murder is bad enough on its own. But what if that single crime leads to a much greater mystery? That's the situation on 'Law & Order: SVU' (Wed., 9PM ET on NBC).

[Warning: Spoiler alert.]

A young woman named Samantha is raped and murdered; her body is left in an industrial laundry facility. Now Detectives Benson and Stabler (Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni) must track down her killer. But when a string of clues leads them to an anonymous house in New York City, they get a lot more than they bargained for.

The detectives stop Jason Gamble (Joseph Sikora) outside his house, just to ask a few questions. He's not the suspect they're looking for. But when Jason goes inside to get a piece of info for the cops, he suddenly locks the door on them. That's rude, but what happens next is a lot worse.

Seemingly innocent men are being mutilated with the use of a coat hanger. Horrifically, words are scratched into the men's chests. The first word is "RUINER." The second word is "TRAITOR." What is going on? Soon, the two detectives (played by Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni) discover that a third man is targeted. They rush to the aid of the "innocent" man, but will they make it in time?

'Law & Order: SVU' -- Jennifer Love Hewitt in a Shockingly Different Role (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 30th 2010 2:17AM
'Law & Order: SVU' -- Jennifer Love Hewitt in a Shockingly Different RoleActress Jennifer Love Hewitt is perhaps best known for starring in the slightly cheesy supernatural drama 'Ghost Whisperer.' Or you might remember her from the vastly more cheesy slasher film 'I Know What You Did Last Summer.' Although Hewitt is a fine actress and a bankable star, she's never really been called on to stretch her dramatic range that much. Which is why her appearance on tonight's 'Law & Order: SVU' (Wed., 9PM ET on NBC) might come as a surprise.

[Warning: Spoiler alert.]

Hewitt guest stars as rape victim Vicki Sayers, who has been attacked and violated by the same man over a 15-year period, and fear of her assailant has turned her into a virtual recluse. Now, she must come face-to-face with her attacker, and overcome her greatest fear.

Emmy Picks: Best Lead Actress in a Drama

by Joel Keller, posted Aug 22nd 2010 4:30PM

With the Emmy awards a week away, I'm continuing to pick who I think should and who I think will win the major awards.

On Friday, I discussed the Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy category. Now come the categories for lead actress and actor, starting with the six worthy nominees for Lead Actress in a Drama.

Nominees:
Connie Britton, 'Friday Night Lights'
Glenn Close, 'Damages'

Mariska Hargitay, 'Law & Order: SVU'
January Jones, 'Mad Men'
Julianna Margulies, 'The Good Wife'
Kyra Sedgwick, 'The Closer'

Who will win:
The temptation here is to say that one of the previous winners, such as Hargitay or Close, will take the award because of the Academy's lack of creativity with their picks. But Margulies is a known quantity -- she's been nominated six times for 'ER,' both in the lead and supporting categories, winning after the show's first season -- and 'The Good Wife' was widely-watched enough to make me think that she may get the award this year. She carried the first year hit on her shoulders and did a great job playing the wounded but resilient Alicia Florrick.

Mariska Hargitay and Kathy Griffin Finally Get Their Lesbian Kiss (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jun 16th 2010 1:35AM
Mariska Hargitay and Kathy Griffin Finally Get Their Lesbian KissWell, it's no Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Johansson. But it's still two girls making out, and that's good enough.

Kathy Griffin appeared as a guest star on 'Law and Order: SVU,' where she and Mariska Hargitay were supposed to share a lesbian kiss. NBC promoted the kiss as a big deal, but then the network got complaints about potentially homophobic dialogue in the scene. As a result, NBC cut the kiss -- but weirdly kept the dialogue that offended many people. Huh? How does that make sense again?

But you can't keep a good same-sex kiss down, and so, on 'Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List' (Tue., 9PM ET on Bravo), we finally get to see what all the fuss was about. The footage of Griffin's smooch with Hargitay is revealed. Then, Griffin shares her belief that the actress has a crush on her.

Sharon Stone on 'Law & Order: SVU' (VIDEO)

Sharon Stone on 'Law & Order: SVU'Sharon Stone has joined the cast of 'Law & Order: SVU' (Wed., 10PM ET on NBC). She'll be doing a four-episode arc as a guest star. On the show, Stone plays an Assistant District Attorney who is the former partner of Detective Stabler (Christopher Meloni). To prepare for her role, Stone visited a real courtroom -- and she also accompanied female cops in crime-ridden sections of Los Angeles, in order to get a feel for what the job is really like.

Kathy Griffin Tries to Kiss Olivia on 'Law and Order: SVU' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 4th 2010 1:04AM
Law and Order: SVU, Kathy GriffinWell, this is awkward. On 'Law and Order: SVU' (Wed., 9PM ET on NBC), Kathy Griffin guest-starred as a militant lesbian activist (her words, not ours). While in protective custody, she gets the wrong vibe from Detective Olivia Benson and tries to kiss her.

Even after Benson explains that she's straight, Griffin's character isn't buying it. "Come on ... I mean, the job and the gun and the attitude ... you're like Ellen, Joan Crawford and Calamity Jane all rolled into one ... I know how difficult it can be ... the conflicted feelings, but the heart wants what the heart wants."

We know this is serious role for Griffin, but that last part is pretty funny. And she'd better start re-thinking her D-List status. She's getting some good gigs lately.

Is Christopher Meloni Leaving 'SVU'? In a Tweet, "No"

by Gary Susman, posted Feb 8th 2010 1:15PM
Rest easy, 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' fans. Despite a story published on Friday (and later yanked offline) in Australia's Courier-Mail newspaper, Christopher Meloni is not quitting his day job as Det. Elliot Stabler on 'SVU.' At least, that's what his boss says.

'SVU' executive producer Neal Baer debunked the rumor in a tweet. Asked by a fan if the story about Meloni's departure was true, Baer simply replied, "No." To another fan's similar question, he replied, "Don't believe everything you read in the papers!"

The original article purportedly quoted Meloni as saying that he'd be leaving the show at the end of the 2010-11 season to focus on theater and film, and that he felt 12 years on the show would be enough. It also purportedly quoted his TV partner Mariska Hargitay as saying she hoped Stabler doesn't get written off the show by being killed because that would devastate her character, Det. Olivia Benson.

Benjamin Bratt back on the beat at Law & Order

by Kona Gallagher, posted Oct 25th 2009 11:06AM
law and order
I started watching Law & Order during the Briscoe and Green days, so I don't know a whole lot about Detective Rey Curtis, Briscoe's former partner from '94-'99. What I do know is that Benjamin Bratt is pulling a Chris Noth and returning to the show that gave him his big break.

Bratt, whose A&E series, The Cleaner, was just canceled, is reprising his role as Detective Rey Curtis on the original Law & Order. However, it doesn't look like the current crime-fighting duo of Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Bernard (Anthony Anderson) have anything to worry about: Bratt is only signed up for one episode.

Emmy Wish List: Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series

by Allison Waldman, posted Jul 14th 2009 2:01PM
Emmys_ABC_awardsThe actresses who have been competing for the Primetime Emmy award in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category these past few years are some of the top names in the business. Two-time Oscar winner Sally Field for Brothers & Sisters, multiple Emmy winner -- including last year's award -- Glenn Close for Damages. Previous winner Mariska Hargitay for Law & Order: SVU. Oh, yes, there's also Saving Grace's Holly Hunter, another former Oscar winner, and Golden Globe winner Kyra Sedgwick for The Closer.

All these ladies are worthy of winning nominations again, and it wouldn't be surprising to see one or all of them nominated. But if I were to have a say, there are some other women I hope to see recognized when the Primetime Emmy nominations are announced this Thursday.
