'In Plain Sight' Gets Renewed for One More Season

by Maggie Furlong, posted Aug 11th 2011 7:30PM
Mary McCormack, 'In Plain Sight''In Plain Sight' will be back for more ... but not too much more. USA announced today that it has renewed the series for a fifth and final season.

Sound like good news? Well it sort of is, but if you think about it, it's really just a very nice way of saying the show has been canceled. Plus, since the network gave the show an additional two-season pick-up last year, this isn't exactly news either.

What is news is that Season 5 will be a shortened swan song for the show, with only eight episodes ordered to wrap up the series instead of the usual 13. Season 5 is set to air next spring.

The news comes just days after the show's Season 4 finale aired earlier this week.

Mary McCormack Gives Awkward Advice to Her Daughter on 'Late Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 28th 2011 4:50AM
Mary McCormack, 'The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson'Mary McCormack managed to make an awkward pause on 'The Late Late Show' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS) even more awkward. More than that, it's something that may yet come back to haunt her when four-year old daughter Rose grows up a bit.

When you say "I wonder if I can say this" twice as a preface to a story you're considering laying on a nationally televised show, you may actually be trying to ask yourself "should I say this?"

McCormack's impromptu story was one of those "kids do the darndest things" moments with her daughter Rose that parents will often tell one another. We just wonder what the fallout might be if Rose grows up and hears about this interview or, worse yet, sees the footage.

Mary's Shocking Hotel Romp on 'In Plain Sight' Season 3 Finale (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Jul 1st 2010 8:15AM
Mary's Hotel Romp on 'In Plain Sight' Season 3 FinaleSteven Weber's FBI Agent Mike Faber returned to 'In Plain Sight' (Wed., 10PM ET on USA) for the season 3 finale -- in a most unexpected way.

[Spoiler alert.]

As Mary settles into a hotel room in Mexico, she flirts with the cute room-service guy. He asks, "May I interest you in a drink before dinner -- champagne or a sex on the beach?" She's intrigued by the innuendo but replies, "Get back to me when you've taken your SATs." She looks him up and down.

As he leaves, Faber walks out of the bathroom in a towel. He chides her for flirting with the "cabana boy" and picks up the bottle of wine, saying, "I think this has had enough time to breathe, don't you?"

"I can't believe I'm in Mexico with a guy who lets his drinks breathe." Neither can we.

'In Plain Sight' - 'When Mary Met Marshall' Recap

by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 8th 2010 12:32AM
In its third season, 'In Plain Sight' has become one of the best dramas on cable. In a pool that includes 'Mad Men,' 'Burn Notice,' 'Breaking Bad' and 'Justified,' to name a few, that's some damn good company.

Granted, 'In Plain Sight' isn't as lofty as some of those others, but the characters are sharp, the writing is excellent for this genre, and it's a show that you can look forward to watching each week. Try saying that about some network dramas. More on tonight's episode and remembering when Hello, Kitty rings were cute, after the jump.

'In Plain Sight' - 'Father Goes West' Recap (Season Premiere)

by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 1st 2010 1:52AM
in_plain_sight_mary_marshall_usa(S03E01) As originally planned, this season opener of 'In Plain Sight' was supposed to have run last season, but when Mary was shot and left clinging to life, USA Network and all the other brainiacs involved with the show decided to give us a cliffhanger. Not that there was ever really any doubt that Mary would survive, because without Mary in the middle, there's really no show.

Nevertheless, it was refreshing to see the new season kick off with Mary not clinging to life, but instead being the world's worst patient. More on her return to active duty and Marshall's green cashmere scarf and cheese danish theories after the jump.

How USA Network Found its Groove

by Gary Susman, posted Mar 31st 2010 12:00PM
How did USA become basic cable's most popular channel? They found a formula that works, and they stuck with it.

This week sees the season premieres of USA's 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' (Tuesday's debut, introducing a new detective played by Saffron Burrows, marks the beginning of season 9) and 'In Plain Sight' (starting its third season on Wednesday). Both series feature USA doing what it does best: offering quirky crimefighters who nail bad guys even as their own lives are falling apart.

Preview of 'In Plain Sight's' March 31st Premiere

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 10th 2010 2:01PM
Spring is definitely on the way, and not just because we'll be spring forward with the clocks this weekend. No, it's on TV that spring is busting out all over. 'Army Wives' is returning with a new season, 'Glee' is coming back to finish this season, even 'Friday Night Lights' will finally commence on NBC -- after already having a complete run on DirecTV. One of the premieres that's got me intrigued is the March 31st 'In Plain Sight' on USA Network.

Big Name Stars Coming to 'In Plain Sight'

by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 19th 2010 11:01AM
in_plain_sight_mary_mccormack_frederick_wellerLast night during 'Burn Notice,' there were promos for 'In Plain Sight' and it got my heart pumped just to hear Mary McCormack's voice again. Hooray, Mary's back. And so is 'In Plain Sight,' one of the most improved series on cable in its sophomore run last season. The new season kicks off on March 31 on USA Network, and 'In Plain Sight's' lined up some big stars as guests.

The top of the list is Allison Janney. They're not saying if it's more than a single episode -- here's hoping -- but Allison will be a playing a "newly appointed U.S. Marshal who clashes with Mary." If you remember Janney and McCormack in the last couple of seasons of 'The West Wing,' this should be a great reunion.

USA signs up for more In Plain Sight

by Allison Waldman, posted Aug 4th 2009 8:02PM

Things are really cooking at the USA Network. Not only has the new show Royal Pains been renewed for a second season, but Burn Notice is also coming back for a fourth. Law and Order: Criminal Intent is on the verge of being re-upped, and now In Plain Sight has just gotten a pick-up for Season Three.

Wow! Talk about a winning formula. This part of the Universal family, as opposed to NBC, seems to have figured out how to make dramas work and work well.

In praise of In Plain Sight

by Allison Waldman, posted May 24th 2009 1:31PM
Richard Schiff In Plain sight
In Plain Sight has become one of my favorite TV shows. I didn't think that way last year, its rookie season, when the show lurched a bit to try and find balance between Mary's professional life as a U.S. Marshal in the Witness Protection Program and her dysfunctional personal life with an alcoholic mother, a troubled younger sister with a drug-dealing boyfriend, and an on-again/off-again relationship with a hot Latin minor league baseball player.

When it went well, it was very satisfying, but the show seemed to be struggling to find its tone. Well, this season is a whole new thing. Perhaps there were changes behind the scenes, perhaps the first year was about shaking out all those story strands and building a stronger foundation, perhaps it was simply the actors getting more comfortable in their roles. Whatever the case, In Plain Sight is now hitting on all cylinders.

In Plain Sight: A Stand-Up Triple - open thread

In Plain Sight

In Plain Sight is one of those shows that completely escapes my radar. That's not a comment on its quality or lack thereof, it's just that I didn't catch it when it first came on. It's a cable show, so the schedule is more unpredictable than the major networks, and I guess the plot doesn't grab me enough to remember to watch it so late at night on a Sunday (unlike Mad Men, which has the same time slot). But if you're a fan, feel free to go crazy and discuss last night's episode.
