Mary Sunshine rising on USA
by Adam Finley, posted Jan 3rd 2007 8:37PM
Citing a need to create a series with a strong female lead after much success with male-centered shows like Monk and Psych, USA networks has greenlit a pilot and eleven additional episodes of Mary Sunshine, a "light drama" starring Mary McCormack as a woman who works as a U.S. Marshall for the Federal Witness Protection Program and must balance her work life with a dysfunctional family.
Don't start looking for the new series (originally titled "In Plain Sight") until later this year or early 2008. McCormack's pregnancy has stalled production on the series. If USA is willing to wait, I hope that means the new series is worthwhile. Given the network's success with the aforementioned quirky dramas, I'm remaining optimistic.
