'SNL' Scorecard: Not Even Matt Damon Could Save Katy Perry's Terrible Show

by Mike Ryan, posted Dec 11th 2011 12:40PM

Katy Perry wasn't listed as the 'SNL' musical guest last night (that was Robyn), but, boy, she sure did sing a lot. Of the eight segments that Perry made an appearance in, she sang in six of them. I'm sorry, but that's pretty telling that the writers didn't know what else to really do with her. And to be fair to the writers: from what we saw of Perry, they probably did the best that they could. And it's always a bad sign when the host plays his or herself, which, yeah, she did that, too. I appreciate Perry willing to stretch herself as host instead of "musical guest who also appears in a sketch", but, yeesh, this was pretty bad. Not even Matt Damon and Val Kilmer could save this show. But, hey: At least Kristen Wiig had a good show. And 'Weekend Update' saved this show from being the worst of the season. Barely. On to a pretty ugly scorecard...

Dating back to when they were young teens, the boys set up a joint checking account for the sole purpose of financing trips to New York for auditions. They did commercials locally to fund these trips in the hopes of making it big. They were focused and dedicated to the dream ... well, mostly.

What Jobs Do Emmy Nominated TV Characters Hold? (Infographic)

by Alex Moaba, posted Aug 22nd 2011 10:45AM
We often joke that 95% of the characters we see on TV are either doctors, lawyers or cops. But among characters nominated for Emmys this year, the occupational breakdown is considerably more diverse.

Led by Don Draper, 12.6% of nominated characters are businessmen. 10.3% are stay-at-home moms or dads, 8% are lawyers, and 6.9% are teachers. The biggest group in the graphic falls into the 'Other' category, which includes Matt Damon's '30 Rock' character Carol, who's a pilot, and Dexter Morgan, a forensic scientist/serial killer of evil people.

Check out the infographic, courtesy of the official Emmys site, after the jump for the full breakdown.

Barbara Walters Offers Kissing Practice to Michael Douglas on 'The View'On 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated), Michael Douglas, who is set to play Liberace in an upcoming biopic, explained how co-star Matt Damon is readying for their inevitable kissing scenes. And Barbara Walters had an inventive idea for how Douglas himself could prepare.

Damon will play Liberace's lover, and has said he plans on using creative visualization in scenes where he and Douglas lock lips. "Matt said, 'Listen. Here's the way I look at it. When I kiss Michael Douglas, it's algebra. I'm kissing Michael Douglas and I'm going through him and I'm kissing his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones,'" Douglas explained, leaning closely toward Walters.

"Give it a minute," Kimmel said.

Yes, Jerry Weintraub -- producer of such films as Nashville, Diner, The Karate Kid and Ocean's 11 -- has indeed been married to his wife Jane Morgan for five decades now. But he's also been living with Susie Ekins, his girlfriend, for two decades.

According to Jerry, the two women get along fine -- they go out together, they cook together. But Jimmy Kimmel seemed skeptical. "Are you sure they're not planning to kill you?" he asked.

Matt Damon Big-Times Packers Coach Mike McCarthy for Laughs in Kenny Mayne Segment (VIDEO)

by PopEater Staff, posted Feb 7th 2011 12:15AM
An athletic mega-event that's practically a national holiday, Super Bowl Sunday has a way of inspiring a whole lot of cooking, marketing, music-making and, yes, low-budget comedy bits.

Resident ESPN jokester Kenny Mayne recently decided to take viewers on a "hard-hitting" tour of the town where Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy grew up: Greenfield, a neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Penn., smack in the middle of Steelers territory.

And who should pop up in the footage? Oscar winner Matt Damon, over-the-top cranky in his role as a high-school rival (Damon actually went to high school in Cambridge, Mass.), griping about McCarthy from inside his posh Hollywood trailer.

Shows That Need to Come Back: 'Project Greenlight'

by Jane Murphy, posted Feb 6th 2011 1:15PM
Tentpoles are letting us down ('Tron' ... meh) and big budget comedies are suddenly bombing ('The Dilemma'), so maybe it's time to put a small fraction of the business back in the hands of amateurs.

The always-riveting 'Project Greenlight' was gone too soon from TV. Sure, it didn't produce any Oscar winners, but it did give talent a leg up (wasn't THAT the point?).

A little-known actor named Shia LeBeouf stole the show in season 2 with his precocious professionalism in the face to 'Project Greenlight's' usual chaos. And on Feb. 25, the Farrelly Brothers' 'Hall Pass' opens wide; the naughty premise was brought to us by indefatigable screenwriter Pete Jones -- yes, that Pete Jones, the first to get 'Greenlight's greenlight, for the twee 'Stolen Summer' (oy, that title).

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jan 6th 2011 8:30AM
'30 Rock' fans only have a few more days to wait until the show comes back from its winter hiatus on January 20. And now that it will air in a new 10PM ET timeslot, creator and star Tina Fey says viewers can expect to some creative shakeups. And more Matt Damon.

A later timeslot means the show's writers can get away with more risqué stuff, and Fey told Entertainment Weekly that "It will be kind of exciting. ... We have been wondering: Can we do even weirder things?"

Given the high weirdness quotient of previous seasons -- The Generalissimo, Dr. Spaceman, the 'Live Show' -- it'll be fun to watch them raise the weird bar. But what about Matt Damon?
