What's on tonight: NBA playoffs, Triumph, Al Roker, Henry Rollins, SNL

  • Julia Louis-DreyfusAt 8, ABC has NBA Playoffs, with the Spurs at the Mavericks.
  • CBS has repeats of CSI: Miami and CSI: NY, then a new 48 Hours Mystery.
  • NBC has a new Dateline at 8, followed by repeats of Law and Order: SVU and Law and Order: CI.
  • Over on FOX at 8, a Nextel Cup race, the Dodge Charger 500 (starts before 8, actually).
  • TLC has two new eps of Little People, Big World starting at 8, followed by a new Shalom in the Home and two new eps of Tuckerville.
  • Also at 8:  G4 has The Best of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.
  • At 9, Food Network has Deep Fried Foods Unwrapped! Check out everything from Kentucky Fried Chicken to deep fried candy bars. It's followed by Al Roker's Diner Destinations.
  • At 10, IFC has a new Henry Rollins Show.
  • HGTV has a new Design on a Dime at 10.
  • At 11:30, NBC has a new Saturday Night Live, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Paul Simon.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus to host SNL next week

Julia Louis-DreyfusMost people don't think of Julia Louis-Dreyfus as an SNL alumnus; sure, it's been mentioned here and there, and she did participate in the various show retrospectives that aired last year. But, unlike Will Ferrel, Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, and any number of big names that came from the show, when you hear JLD's name, the first thing you think of is Seinfeld, not SNL.

That might be because Julia wasn't used all that much during her time on the show, which was from 1982 to 1985. That was especially true in the classic "Short - Crystal - Guest - Shearer" season of 1984-1985, as the star power of that year overwhelmed whatever semi-known cast member was left over from previous years. Pre-Seinfeld, JLD was probably on the SNL fame meter somewhere around the Melanie Hutsell level.
