CBS to honor Bob Barker with two-night tribute - VIDEO

by Adam Finley, posted Apr 3rd 2007 3:22PM

bob barkerCBS is not only broadcasting a send-off to game show legend Bob Barker, they're asking fans to upload their own tributes to the soon-to-be-former Price is Right host.

That's why, in honor of his well-known pleas to help control the pet population, I'll be uploading footage of myself castrating a dachshund.

Anyway, on May 16 at 8:00 p.m., folks can tune in to a special nighttime showing of The Price is Right in which the winner will walk away with one million dollars. The following night, May 17, fans can catch the hour-long retrospective Bob Barker: A Celebration of 50 Years on Television. Some user-submitted videos will be featured during the special, and others will air during the final week of Bob's stint as host of the long-running program (no date has been given yet for Barker's departure).

Wink Martindale gets star on Walk of Fame

by Adam Finley, posted Jun 4th 2006 1:05PM
wink martindaleWell, I mentioned it back in October, but in case you forgot, game show host Wink Martindale (who can be seen these days in commercials for Orbitz) recently got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Martindale, who's real first name is Winston, has hosted about fifteen game shows in his lifetime. Having grown up in the 80s, I mostly remember him as the host of The New Tic Tac Dough. His other game shows included High Rollers, Trivial Pursuit, and Gambit. Martindale got his start in radio as a young man in Tennessee, and can still be heard today, hosting the syndicated program "Music of Your Life." So congrats, Wink, you deserve the recognition, and you also have one of the best game show host names ever.

Jon Stewart will host Peabody Awards

by Adam Finley, posted Mar 22nd 2006 1:02PM
jon stewartJon Stewart is gearing up for hosting duties yet again, this time for the Peabody Awards in New York City on June 5. Stewart, who has won two Peabodys himself for The Daily Show's election coverage, was chosen partly for his "journalistic smarts and comic genius." Well, I'll give them the "comic genius" part, but I still cringe whenever someone refers to The Daily Show as "journalism." Additionally, winners from the 2005 ceremony will be announced via satellite and Web cast on April 5.
