Jon Stewart Makes Full-Sized Politician Out of Mitch Daniels and Mike Bloomberg (VIDEO)
On 'The Daily Show With Jon Stewart' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), host Jon Stewart pointed out that no major GOP candidate has yet declared they are running for President, whereas at the same time in the 2008 cycle, 12 had already staked their claim. Then Stewart discussed all the Republicans who might eventually toss their hat into the ring. When he got to Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, who stands a generous 5'7" tall and has a comb-over style haircut, Stewart played a clip of Daniels acknowledging he doesn't look like the typical President.
"Sure, if it comes down to height and hair, I probably wouldn't do very well," Daniels said of his presidential chances in the clip.
NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg Wants David Letterman's Job (VIDEO)
Michael Bloomberg is the 10th richest man in America, and the 23rd richest man in the world. He's worth more than $18 billion. And, oh yeah, he's also the mayor of New York City. But that doesn't mean that he wouldn't consider starting a new career. On 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), Bloomberg expressed a desire for David Letterman's job.Currently, Bloomberg is caught up in the seemingly never-ending "Ground Zero Mosque" controversy. (And let's pause, as always, to point out that it's not technically a mosque, and isn't technically at Ground Zero.) The mayor said that he supports the right of the builders to construct the Islamic center, adding that they have a "First Amendment" right to build and worship wherever they want.
Jon Stewart Tries to Trick Mayor Bloomberg, Wants a Free Parking Pass (VIDEO)
Michael Bloomberg -- the current mayor of New York City -- appeared as a guest on 'The Daily Show' (weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central). While he was on the show, Jon Stewart tried to use a little deceit, in order to get a special privilege.Jon asked the mayor for his autograph on a glossy photo. "Just right on the line there; that'd be great ... that's terrific," he said. Next, Stewart whipped away the photo ... to reveal that the mayor had just signed a "All Access Five Borough" free parking pass that was lying underneath. Nice! Well-played, Mr. Stewart!
Colbert's cast to go up on eBay tonight
After tonight's episode of The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert will put his cast up for auction on eBay. Colbert broke his wrist in June while running around his set before the show began. The proceeds from the sale will go to the Yellow Ribbon Fund for injured military service members and their families as they recuperate at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center. The Yellow Ribbon Fund is a favorite of Colbert's. He has already used his cast to raise money for the injured soldiers and their families by selling 'WristStrong' bracelets, a spoof of Lance Armstrong (and Nike's) LiveStrong yellow bracelets that raise money for cancer research. By the way, if you can't afford Stephen's cast, you can probably still afford one of his 'WristStrong' bracelets, which are for sale on his website.
Colbert's cast is signed by a wide variety of political and news figures: Nancy Pelosi, Tony Snow, Katie Couric, Brian Williams, Tim Russert, Bill O'Reilly, and Michael Bloomberg.
Ross to sing at US Open, O'Brien to ruin US Open
There isn't an event I look forward to more than the U.S. Open (the tennis one, not the golf one). For two weeks, USA has over 10 hours of coverage each and every day, and it's like I'm in a wonderland. I'm glued to the set for two straight weeks, and there's nothing that can pull me away, not even getting a guy who likes to snort coke and make rude sexual remarks to women to host CBS' late night wrapup shows.
The Insider's Pat O'Brien will host CBS' 12:35am daily highlights show the second week of the Open. Ugh.
But whatever. One less thing to watch at 12:35 in the morning I guess. In other news, Diana Ross will sing at the opening night ceremonies, next Monday on USA. The night will include appearances by John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Chris Evert, Venus Williams, and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and they will rename the tennis center for veteran player Billie Jean King.
Peter Jennings Way christened in NYC
A portion of a street in New York City
was renamed Peter Jennings Way during a ceremony yesterday. The street was both near where Jennings lived and where he
worked as an anchor for ABC News. Jennings died of lung cancer in August. The section of street
is on 66th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park. Jennings' widow, two children, the president of ABC News,
and even mayor Michael Bloomberg attended the ceremony.TV Squad Hot Topics
