What to Watch: TV Picks for December 5 - 11
by Stephanie Earp, posted Dec 5th 2011 9:44AM
A Michael Bublé Christmas - Tuesday December 6, 8PM ET/PT, CTV/NBCI will definitely not be watching this, but as I see this round-up as a service to others as much as an exercise in planning my own weekly viewing, I include it for all the people who, inexplicably, love this guy. The Bubbler is joined by guests including Justin Bieber, Kellie Pickler, Tracy Morgan and Ed Helms. (Forgive us, but we have to throw it in there: this unholy alliance can be called ... Bublieber?)
EXCLUSIVE Michael Buble & Ed Helms Team for 'Shocking' Christmas Song (VIDEO)
by Chris Harnick, posted Dec 1st 2011 11:35AM
What's better than a digital short featuring the very charming Michael Bublé? A digital short featuring Bublé and the musically inclined star of NBC's 'The Office,' Ed Helms!Helms and Bublé teamed up to do three digital shorts for NBC's 'A Michael Bublé Christmas' (Tues., Dec. 6, 8PM ET), but you won't see this one during the actual show. Yep, it's a shocking online exclusive. In the short, Helms and Bublé play hosts of a live 1974 Christmas special that goes horribly wrong.
Why did we say shocking? Well, the sweater on Helms' character does a little more than festively twinkle. Check out the video below.

Joy to Beliebers and their grandparents: The original pop star, Tony Bennett, will be showing Justin Bieber how it's done when they both perform at NBC's annual live Christmas tree-lighting ceremony, 'Christmas in Rockefeller Center' later this month. The roster of big name performers announced by the network spans not only generations, but also genres, with singers Michael Bublé, Cee Lo Green, Faith Hill, Carole King, Katharine McPhee and 'The Voice' winner Javier Colon performing a mix of current hits and holiday classics.
NBC announced that the hour-long special on November 30 will be hosted by the 'Today Show's Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie and will -- natch -- also feature seasonal high-kickers, The Radio City Rockettes. Prior to the primetime telecast, WNBC and other NBC affiliates (check your local listings) will also air an additional live hour of the special.

It's Jack Black vs. Michael Bublé, in a Battle for Best Singer of All Time (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 15th 2010 3:00AM
"You guys know each other?" Jay Leno said. Yeah, they've met before. And they've got a bit of a rivalry going on. And so, on the new 'Tonight Show' (11:35PM ET on NBC), the two legendary singers of our generation -- Grammy Award-winner Michael Bublé and, um, Jack Black -- squared off in a battle for supremacy. The two vocalists recalled a previous "sing-off" encounter that they had on an Australian talk show. Next, inspired by Black's performance in 'School of Rock,' the pair tried to determine who was more "hardcore" -- singing-wise, that is. Because really, you're not hardcore ... unless you live hardcore.
So, who would be the winner? Well, to be honest, they were both a little off-key, as Bublé screeched awkwardly in an effort to imitate Jack's, um, soaring vocal abilities.

Michael Buble, please forgive us for assuming you were humorless based upon your music. We were wrong. by Stephanie Earp, posted Mar 29th 2010 5:02PM

On Sunday night, I watched 'Keep Your Head Up Kid: The Don Cherry Story' on CBC because, as my beloved said, "We kind of have to, don't we?" I think he was thinking of my job as a Canadian TV columnist, our status as hockey fans or maybe he only meant there wasn't much else on.
But watch it we did (the first half anyway - the rest airs Monday March 29, 8 pm, CBC) and frankly, I thought it was pretty good, and I'm a little surprised about it.
CBC miniseries are not usually my cup of tea. The subjects are usually dead white guys who made Important Contributions to Our Country, which I always feel I'm supposed to know about already.
Don Cherry even agrees with me. "I feel like I should be dead," he said at a press conference for the series. "Don't they usually do these kinds of movies about dead people?"
Jon Hamm on 'Saturday Night Live': Clip Highlights (VIDEO)
by Jane Boursaw, posted Jan 31st 2010 11:20AM
A clean-shaven Jon Hamm hosted 'Saturday Night Live' this week, and the 'Mad Men' star brought the laughs during his second time hosting the show -- especially as a "crazy sexy" saxophonist named Sergio. The 'SNL' crew also took the politicians to task with bits on Obama's State of the Union speech, Sen. Scott Brown's new gig, and Justice Sonia Sotomayor's visit to Weekend Update. All that, and some Michael Bublé tunes.

Review: Saturday Night Live - Jon Hamm/Michael Bublé
by Annie Wu, posted Jan 31st 2010 10:32AM

(S35E13) The first time Jon Hamm hosted Saturday Night LIve, back in 2008, it was before I had seen his work on Mad Men and 30 Rock (the latter was due to the fact his guest appearances didn't exist at the time). I was super-excited that the seemingly perpetually serious Hamm actually turned out to be hilarious, and his performance led to one of the best episodes of the entire season. Taking all this into consideration, I was walking on dangerous ground as I prepared to watch Hamm's return to the SNL stage.
Were my expectations too high to be met? Did Hamm's pre-SNL beard somehow take funny away from him (I've heard beards can sometimes do that)? As it turned out, I had absolutely nothing to worry about. Hamm did yet another stellar job as host, bringing a level of charm and commitment that made just about every sketch work.
NBC has two promos for Jon Hamm's SNL this weekend (it's not bubble!)

I don't get excited that often about new episodes of Saturday Night Live, but I'll be watching this Saturday. Jon Hamm is the host again, and if it's as good as his previous hosting gig it's going to be well worth watching. The musical guest is Michael Bublé.

'Jennifer Hudson: I'll Be Home for Christmas' (8PM, ABC)The 'American Idol' alum, and, of course, Oscar and Grammy winner, has had an emotional couple of years that have played out very publicly, but it apparently hasn't chipped away at her Christmas spirit. In her first holiday special, Hudson returns to her hometown, Chicago, to revisit the people, places and music that helped set her on the path to stardom, including her high school and the church where her mother, nephew and brother were eulogized after their 2008 murders. In a lighter touch, Hudson pairs with fellow Grammy winner Michael Buble to croon the holiday classics 'Let It Snow' and 'Baby It's Cold Outside.'
Morgan Freeman Admits He Has Not Seen 'Invictus' (VIDEO)
by Elizabeth Chan, posted Dec 3rd 2009 4:00PM
How many films has Morgan Freeman done? Apparently too many to remember during his appearance on 'Live with Regis and Kelly.' During the interview, Kelly and guest host Michael Buble were stunned to hear that Freeman does not watch his own movies. Watch what Kelly says to Freeman after his admission.

Did NBC's Christmas in Rockefeller Center seem a little surreal to you?
by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 3rd 2009 12:41PM
So we didn't have any major walkout or cutting of the electricity during the live broadcast of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting on NBC last night. But we did have enough things to talk about the day after.I could discuss the lip synching that a lot of the acts decided to do (I'm looking at you, Barry Manilow) and point out just how bad Rod Stewart is at doing either old standards or soul songs. But I really want to talk about Jane Krakowski. She hosted (along with Chuck's Zachary Levi) and it was a little...surreal.
This was a variety show that wasn't too different than a special TGS that the 30 Rock gang might put on, and it almost seemed like it was Jenna Maroney hosting. Krakowski basically plays a really exaggerated version of herself on 30 Rock, and I was waiting for her to say something clueless or potentially racist or have a cat jump on her face and scratch her.
