A Snake Reminds Rebecca She's a Long Way from Miami on 'Combat Hospital' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 22nd 2011 5:04AM
'Combat Hospital'The Series Premiere of 'Combat Hospital' (Tue., 10PM ET on ABC) dropped Major Rebecca Gordon into war-torn Afghanistan in 2006. Wartime medical dramas are nothing new, and in fact have given television some of its best television series. But we're not ready to say 'Combat Hospital' is ready to join their ranks.

It does, however, feature a likable cast and lead in Gordon (Michelle Borth). A little out of her depth in Afghanistan, we thought the snake scene in the O.R. did a great job of spotlighting just how out of her element she was.

"I was the youngest chief surgical resident in Miami General's history," she was telling her superior officer during surgery when he stopped everyone in the room cold.

It Looks Like It's Over for 'The Forgotten'

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 3rd 2010 3:02PM
The ForgottenChristian Slater needs to pick better TV shows. Or at least pick TV shows that have some sort of chance of surviving. That's easier said than done, of course, or I'd be the most successful programmer in network history. Last year Slater starred in the short-lived 'My Own Worst Enemy' (a show I actually kinda liked) and now it looks like ABC's 'The Forgotten' is going to be short-lived too, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The March 23 episode was supposed to be the season finale, but ABC is pulling the show before then and the March 9 episode will be the season finale instead (no episode on March 16 either). And since ABC doesn't seem to have enough faith in the show to even let a couple more episodes air, we can pretty much bet that those "season finale" tags will be changed to "series finale" tags.

Maybe Slater should star in one of those 'NCIS'/'CSI'/'Criminal Minds' spinoffs that seem to happen every year. I can picture that.

Two Join 'Matadors' Pilot

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 16th 2010 4:01PM
ABC logoIt looks like we're going to have another legal drama on TV, but at least this one looks like it might have a twist to it. ABC has cast the two lead roles for 'Matadors,' about two battling families who also happen to be filled with attorneys. One family has a private practice while the other works for the state. The Hollywood Reporter describes it as a "Romeo and Juliet-style drama" because the two lovebirds come from each of those battling families.

Michelle Borth, who currently co-stars on ABC's 'The Forgotten' (though I'm guessing not for long) will play Juliana, while Zach Gilford will play Alex, the guy who Juliana will fall in love with. The woman's name is Juliana? Well, at least they didn't name the man's character Roman or something like that.

Gilford plays Matt on 'Friday Night Lights.' He's not a regular anymore but did make appearances this season.

Amy Smart Scrubs in for CBS Medical Drama

by Michael D. Ayers, posted Feb 16th 2010 11:00AM
CBS is getting smart -- Amy Smart, that is.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Smart will star in CBS' untitled medical drama from executive producer John Wells ('ER'; 'Southland'). In it, she will play a "tough nurse" who speaks her mind and is romantically involved with another character.

The show follows a group of medics who travel the country to help less-fortunate people in need of medical care.

While Smart's career has mostly been relegated to film -- she's had a long history with both frat comedies ('Road Trip,' 'Varsity Blues') and romantic comedies ('Just Friends,' 'Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!') -- she's had a few roles on the small screen, including a season of 'Felicity' and a four-episode arc on 'Scrubs' as "Tasty Coma Wife."

Another sneak peek: ABC's The Forgotten

by Bob Sassone, posted May 21st 2009 6:01PM
I want to give every show (that isn't a reality show) the benefit of the doubt, because even the more mundane premise can be great with the right writing and cast. Having said that, do we really need another TV show about a team of quirky investigators solving crimes? Here's a clip from the first episode of The Forgotten. (And here are previews of ABC's new comedies.)

Supernatural: What Is And What Should Never Be

Michelle Borth, Samantha Smith, Adrianne Palicki
It's been a strange week of coincidences on television. Bones and CSI both did alien episodes while Heroes and Supernatural both featured what if stories. Having now watched all four of those, "What Is And What Should Never Be" was my favorite of the bunch. Credit the lions share of that accomplishment to the ever improving Jensen Ackles.
