Jeopardy! champion Bob Harris gives a lowly blogger some advice

by Danny Gallagher, posted Jan 27th 2009 2:04PM
Every apprentice who aims to journey on a quest fraught with peril and self-realization must seek someone with experience in facing it. He must consult with a man who not only has walked that road many times before, but has beaten it into submission until he emerged triumphant.

Hercules had to consult the Delphi Oracle if he wanted to avenge his family's death.

Rocky had to learn to trust Mickey if he wanted to defeat Apollo Creed.

Luke Skywalker had to find Yoda if he wanted to become a Jedi.

So if I wanted to achieve victory over the daunting behemoth of knowledge that is the Jeopardy! contestant test, I, too, would have to find an equally experienced and successful "Yoda" from the game show shire.

In short, Ken Jennings wasn't available but the Mace Windu of the Jeopardy! Council was.

The return of the game show?

by Bob Sassone, posted Apr 17th 2006 2:39PM
Vanna and PatKing World, the people behind Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy have created two new game shows and will offer the shows to syndication in a one hour block starting in the fall of 2007. NBC Universal is prepping a syndicated version of Deal Or No Deal. So now the show will be on 300 times a week.

The King World news is great, but frustrating, since there are no details at all yet on what the game shows will be. If they're successful, maybe this will mean a little resurgence of game shows (and not just reality show type game shows). But I won't be happy til they come back to daytime.

The
$1.4 Billion Dollar WomanOh, Oprah, you are still the Woman! Martha, well, your 15 minutes of fame are over, sister.

According to the latest installment of Forbes magazine's list of the world's billionaires, Ms. Winfrey is one of only 78 women whose net worth is a billion dollars or more. In fact, after netting an additional $100 million dollars last year she is now worth $1.4 billion dollars and ranks number 562 on the list.

On the other hand, Martha Stewart has dropped completely off of the list after entering last year with a paltry $1 billion. Since her release from prison last year Ms. Stewart's net worth has dropped to an even more minuscule sum of $500 million. Meanwhile, Martha's arch-nemesis, Donald Trump, remains a successful billionaire  with the hefty sum of $2.6 billion dollars.

The moral of this story, of course, is that crime does not pay!
