The Seinfelds vs. The Cookbook Author, Round Two
by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 15th 2010 10:01AM
Well, you have to give her points for persistence.Missy Chase Lapine, author of the cookbook 'The Sneaky Chef,' is suing Jerry Seinfeld for remarks he made about her on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' a couple of years ago. I watched that episode, as Seinfeld made a few jokes about her, including calling her a 'wacko' and hinting that she might be a stalker and crazy because she goes by three names. As I mentioned a while back, it was obvious that was going to cause some trouble.
Lapine already sued the Seinfelds and their publishing company for supposedly stealing ideas from her book for Jessica Seinfeld's book 'Deceptively Delicious' (both books had similar angles to them). That suit was dismissed.
I'm sure Seinfeld would like any promotion for 'The Marriage Ref,' but I'm equally sure he just wants this to go away as quickly as possible.
Seinfelds cleared in copyright suit

It's been a while since we brought you news that Jessica Seinfeld (Jerry's wife) was being sued for copyright infringement and trademark violations for her book Deceptively Delicious. Author Missy Chase Lapine had accused Seinfeld of copying from her book, The Sneaky Chef, which came out several months before Seinfeld's similar book. Both books feature ways to get your kids to eat healthier foods. The judge said that, yeah, there are similarities between the two books but not enough to prove Lapine's case.
Seinfelds respond to cookbook author's lawsuit

Well, Jerry and his wife have finally responded to cookbook author Missy Chase Lapine's lawsuit.
Lapine sued the Seinfelds after Jerry went on The Late Show with David Letterman and said some rather nasty things about her, including calling her a "wacko" and suggesting she was a stalker (even making a joke about her having three names, like killers often do). This also stems from the incredible similarities between Lapine's hide-your-veggies book The Sneaky Chef (released in April of 2007) and Jessica Seinfeld's hide-your-veggies Deceptively Delicious (released in October of 2007).
Seinfelds sued over cookbook

Believe it or not, I'm a little bit surprised by this news: According to The Smoking Gun (via AOL), Missy Chase Lapine has sued Jessica and Jerry Seinfeld over the flap concerning the similarities between her cookbook, The Sneaky Chef, and Mrs. Seinfeld's cookbook, Deceptively Delicious.Jessica is accused of plagiarizing Lapine's book. But why is Jerry included in the suit? Because Lapine has decided that in the process of defending his wife in various TV appearances, Jerry defamed her by accusing her of being a "wacko" and a stalker. In fact, the suit specifically mentions Jerry's appearance on Letterman where the w-word was uttered.
