'Modern Family' - 'Airport 2010' Recap

by Jason Hughes, posted May 6th 2010 8:37AM
'Modern Family' - 'Airport 2010'(S01E22) Only 'Modern Family' could pull off having a set-up episode for their big Hawaiian vacation and have it succeed in its own right. The episode explored the comic misadventures that every sitcom explores when a trip is planned. They managed to find a clever way to play up familiar topics by playing around with time.

That way we could experience things like a stray sneeze at one point in the episode, wondering if there was more to it, only to find out later that it was the result of an entirely different scenario playing out during the same scene. Attention to detail keeps 'Modern Family' at a different level as all those other sitcoms out there.

by Oliver Miller, posted May 5th 2010 11:35PM
A Big Baby on 'Modern Family'No one likes getting stuck next to a crying baby on a plane. On 'Modern Family' (Wed., 9PM ET on ABC), a father comes up with a novel solution to this problem. Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) decides to completely exhaust his adopted daughter Lily before going on a flight. His partner Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) is there to handle any potential problems with this idea.

While discussing his plan, Mitchell relates the story of the last time he got stuck next to a crying baby on an airplane. Of course, it turns out that the big baby was Cameron, who spent the flight upset over the fact that they couldn't get tickets to the show 'Billy Elliot.' "Oh, I get it, you're talking about me," Cameron says. "...Very funny."

NBC's Relentless 'Parenthood' Promos: So Many, So Not Good

by Gary Susman, posted Feb 23rd 2010 3:00PM
I really want to like 'Parenthood.' Especially since it seems I can't avoid it. NBC is promoting the new series, which premieres March 2, constantly during the Olympics. And unfortunately, those oft-repeated promos make the show look like grim death.

Watching these clips, you wouldn't even necessarily be able to tell what 'Parenthood's' premise is, unless you already knew that the show is an update of the 1989 Ron Howard movie. As it is, the promos just make the show look like it's about a parent who has trouble communicating with her kids, which makes it like, oh, every other family show in the history of television.
