Cookie Monster eats a machine - VIDEO
Muppet fans know that some characters evolve while others just spring up from out of nowhere. Cookie Monster, for example, began life as somewhat more ferocious-looking monster (the row of sharp teeth helped) in several commercials before being toned down and brought to Sesame Street.
In the clip below, a pre-Sesame Street Cookie Monster devours a machine while the machine describes how it works and what its many functions are. Actually, it only has one main function, but you'll have to watch the clip for that.
Gryphon attacks Sci-Fi this Saturday
This Saturday, February 27 at 9:00pm, tune into Sci-Fi to see the original made-for-TV movie Gryphon, billed in the network promo as the "ultimate weapon of mass destruction." That's not entirely true -- the ultimate "weapon of mass destruction" is actually a Gryphon with severe diarrhea. However, no matter how many times I've submitted my script for that particular movie, Sci-Fi continues to turn it down. Apparently my ideas are too radical for the timid minds at that particular network.
Gryphon tells the story of two rival kingdoms who must join forces when the Gryphon (a mythical beast with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle) is summoned to destroy them all. The movie stars Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Jonathan LaPaglia (The District, New York Undercover) and Larry Drake (LA Law). You can watch the promo here. I think it looks pretty cool, actually, in that fun, "matinee movie monster" kind of way.
The X-Files: Gender Bender
(S01E14) I can honestly say I had never, ever seen this episode of The X-Files. I'm not sure why I passed it over or missed it over the years, but it was new to me. And I totally loved it! Oh, and Nic Lea, who plays villain Alex Krycek in subsequent seasons, makes an appearance in this episode as 'Michael', a near-victim of the Monster of the Week. The opening scene of Gender Bender made me wonder what time of year this episode aired. It opens with sex, after all. But, alas, it was not created for ratings as it originally aired on January 21, 1994.
Stargate SG-1: Uninvited

(S10E05) For some reason, SG-1 is all about the little bits of 'previously on SG-1'. For tonights episode we saw the cloaked warriors from a previous season. I sort of wish they'd quit it. These little trips down memory lane have a habit of giving too much away.
Mitchell shows up at Jacks cabin driving a schweeet fastback mustang. (I just love late 60's mustangs) Some sort of alien peeping tom appears to have followed Mitchell or the General out to the cabin. The rest of the team is supposed to be at Landry's little retreat, but are checking out reports of some trouble on another planet. Teal'c arrives off-world and is shown some chainsaw massacre style carnage. The rest of SG-1 is more than a bit happy to go off-world and help hunt down the mysterious beast that's eating villagers. The beastie nibbles on one of the SG teams, and takes off in the woods.
Tom Goes to the Mayor: Jeffy the Sea Serpent
(S02E03) I think one of my favorite things about this show, besides its overall weirdness, is how calm and collected the titular character of Tom Peters is, even when the aloof Mayor twists his plans around and puts Tom at the risk of physical harm. Tom does have occasional freak outs, but it's funny how far he can actually be pushed before he snaps.
This episode began with Tom telling the Mayor about an episode of That's Amazing he was watching, a show hosted by "Bradley" (Bob Odenkirk) who tells his audience things like, "Balls are fun, but not when you're locked inside of one." Sometime during the show there was a mention of the Loch Ness monster, but Tom forgot to cue it up so he just tells the Mayor about it instead, and wonders if Jefferton has any mythical creatures they could use to promote tourism. The Mayor gets a brilliant idea and has Tom close his eyes for a total of 168 minutes while he sneaks off to draw up blueprints for a man-made serpent that Tom himself will pilot from inside. They'll tell the townsfolk the serpent is real, though.
The X-Files: Squeeze
(S01E03) Forget the werewolves, the green bugs, the camoflauge forest-dwellers, the inbred pig people and the aliens. You, Eugene Tooms, are the scariest monster ever to grace The X-Files. Squeeze is the first MOTW (Monster of the Week) episode of The X-Files and it's a doozy. The writers take us off the government-covers- up-aliens-on-earth storyline and focus on a major freak who has ten-inch long fingers and rips the livers out of five victims every 30 years. The experts at The X-Files wiki say FOX requested the script change-up away from aliens. Apparently, the idea came when one of the writers saw an air duct outside their office and wondered whether someone could sneak up inside it. Tooms' obsession with liver came from creator Chris Carter's recent trip to France where he ate a lot of foie gras. That, and the liver is just a funny organ.

Should Isaac Mizrahi work Oscars red carpet?
Fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi sparked a lot of discussion following his behavior on the red carpet last week
while co-hosting the Golden Globes arrival show for E! Some outrageous moments include grabbing Scarlett
Johansson's breast, looking down Teri Hatcher's dress, questioning Eva Longoria about her pubic hair, and referring to
Charlize Theron's character in Monster as a "scary dyke with bad teeth." Yes, he was totally
sexually harassing these women. Although none of those actresses have filed any complaints about their treatment, the
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is skeptical about whether Mizrahi should be working the red carpet during
the Oscars. A spokesman for the Academy said they expect that Mizrahi won't behave like that on their red carpet and,
if he does, "I cannot predict what we would do afterwards."Did anyone watch the E! preshow? Was it offensive? I didn't see it, but this totally makes me want to watch the Oscars preshow in March. I'm hoping he takes Russell Crowe down a notch or two.

OK, with that out of the way, let's talk tonight's Lost. Once again we're left with more questions than answers, though overall I'd say this was a good episode. Not great, but good. revelations about Eko, Charlie, the "monster" and ... Walt, maybe?

You may want to take this with a grain of salt, but Evangeline Lilly just let a big spoiler slip on Live
