SuperSync iTunes file sync client adds TiVo support

by Brad Linder, posted Apr 23rd 2008 1:57PM
SuperSync
SuperSync is an application for keeping your iTunes libraries synchronized between multiple computers. The software works with Macs and PCs, and now with TiVo as well. SuperSync 2.3 adds support for synchronizing MP3 files with a TiVo.

TiVo users can use the software to access MP3s stored in their iTunes directories on computers connected to the home network. You can then use a TiVo remote to browse your music library by artist, genre, album, or playlist.

The latest version of SuperSync also has a new help system, improved transfer stats, and support for several other digital audio players. A SuperSync license for 2 machines runs $29, with discounted options available for 5 and 10 machine licenses.

Apple iTunes Plus music unencrypted, still unplayable on TiVo

by Brad Linder, posted Jun 6th 2007 10:52AM
iTunesIf you've got a TiVo Series2 box hooked up to your home network, you can play music from your computer's iTunes library on your TiVo -- and by music, I mean MP3 files or unprotected AAC files.

Now that Apple has begun selling unencrypted music from EMI, you'd think you could stream those files to your TiVo too. After all, they're designed to play on pretty much any portable media player that has AAC support.

But if you try to play the unencrypted AAC files purchased through iTunes plus through TiVo Desktop you'll get a "rejected song because song: format purchased AAC audio file not mp3 or convertible to mp3."

Since the tracks are DRM-free, you can convert them to MP3 or reencode them as unencrypted AAC files and TiVo will play them. But then you lose out on one of the selling points of iTunes plus files: higher quality. Any time you convert a file from one compressed format to another you're kind of butchering the sound quality. Hopefully TiVo or some hacker with too much free time on his or her hands will come along and offer a fix soon.

A whole lotta TV themes

by Adam Finley, posted Aug 14th 2006 5:31PM
notesIf you're like me, besides being totally hot, you probably also get television theme songs stuck in your head all the time. I think the theme to Facts of Life is the one that goes through my head at least twenty times a day. I don't know if it's because it's catchy or because it really does get to the core of what life is really all about. You pretty much just take the good, the bad, and that's it. At any rate, Luis from Bunch of Nerds hepped us to a cool Web site with a lousy interface where you can find MP3s of pretty much any theme song you can think of. If you've been longing to hear the theme to Alice after all these years, this is your chance. Now chase that dream, my fellow TV watchers.

Milonakis' phat rhymes

by Adam Finley, posted Apr 19th 2006 9:59AM
andy milonakisThe Andy Milonakis Show is currently in its second season on MTV2,  but a lot of us knew about Andy before he was on television, when he used to create little skits on his Web cam and ad lib his own rap songs over on the Angry Naked Pat site. When I spoke to Andy a few years ago he said he was interested in making an album of comedy rap songs, and it looks like the first song has been "leaked" (but not really) and you can hear it by clicking here. It's called "Me No Like Hollywood Douche Bags," and Andy uses the song to state with great clarity his dislike of douche bags from Hollywood. I assume douche bags from Sacramento are okay, though. The song is mildly amusing until he seems to run out of ideas and just starts saying "suck my ***k" a lot. I think this could be turned into a funny video, but as an audio file only it's a bit of a let down, even if I do agree with the sentiment.
