Check out John K's Weird Al video
John Kricfalusi, creator of Ren and Stimpy, has made a hilariously subversive video for Weird Al's song "Close But No Cigar." The song is what Weird Al would refer to as a "style parody," meaning it's not a parody of a specific song but it does pay homage to the music stylings of Cake. The characters and poses were designed by Kricfalusi and fellow animator Katie Rice. The actual animation was done in Flash by Copernicus Studios in Canada. I've kind of lost track of Weird Al over the years, but this is a very funny song, and the video fits it perfectly. Lots of hot cartoon chicks, plus a face gets eaten and a squirrel is disemboweled. I don't think I could ask for much more in a music video. I've placed it after the jump:
Check out the Battlestar Galactica music video
Whoa! What's with all the Battlestar Galactica posts today? You'd think we're fans or something. Sheesh! This latest little tidbit is too good to pass up. There's a BSG music video over at the SciFi Channel's website. It doesn't say who sings it, but it's a goofy little comparison of the old Battlestar Galactica versus the new one. There are a couple of cute lines like, "Apollo's hair looks like a shampoo commercial," and "You're full of Cylon clones and those old fashioned phones." I don't watch SciFi often enough to know whether the music video is actually getting some play on the cable channel.
Enjoy!

Nobody's Watching stars make a music video -- VIDEO
Remember all the hoopla this summer over the very funny failed pilot called Nobody's Watching? It didn't get picked up by the WB last year but it got a lot of play on YouTube this year and, consequently, NBC decided to give the show a whirl. For some reason, the two guys who star in the show (Taran Killam and Paul Campbell) have a mock music video on YouTube. They lip sync and dance to a song by The Pretenders and there's a weird battle with pocket combs at the end. Not sure what this is all about but it is new to YouTube, since it was uploaded on Sept. 13th. Mildly amusing, anyway.Video is embedded after the jump.
Sneak peek at new season of Grey's Anatomy tonight
Footage from season three of Grey's Anatomy will premiere tonight in the form of a music video. The song is called How to Save a Life by The Fray (I've been hearing it on radio stations all summer long) and it has scenes from this coming season. The music video premieres after Grey's Anatomy tonight at about 10 pm and then a four minute, extended version of the video will accompany the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy on September 21.Music has been huge for the Grey's crowd, with The Fray striking a chord at the end of last season with their song. Good for The Fray for recognizing an opportunity. That season premiere is going to be huge.
YouTube to offer every music video ever created
According to BBC News, YouTube founder Steve Chen is working on a plan to "have every music video ever created" on his website within 18 months. He's in negotiations with various record companies for the deal and, when all those videos are up and running, users will be able to include music videos in their personal profiles.I'd have to go old school and include the most memorable music videos from my childhood in the '80s when MTV actually played music videos. My choices:
YouTube meets MySpace on new MTV website, channel
MTV is reaching out to the... uh... MTV generation with a new social networking website with accompanying television channel. The highlight of the website will be user-generated video clips and messages. On it, people can request music videos to be played (they still do that?), send on-screen messages via cell phone, and chat with each other through avatars. Basically, it's a user-generated television channel. This is definitely for the video game generation. I already can't keep up with MTV when it scrolls messages across the screen over the rare music video. The new channel and website are called Flux. The website launches Tuesday, August 1st while the channel launches in September.
David Cross and the Pornographers
If
you haven't seen the video for The New Pornographers' song "Use It," then you're probably in the majority.
I'm not sure why bands even make videos anymore, since they're rarely seen by a mass audience, and those that do see
them probably catch them at like 3 a.m. on MTV2. At any rate, I'm linking to the video because it features none other than
Arrested Development's own David Cross, playing what appears to be a very pivotal role. Also featured in
the video is some Candian guy I've never heard of named Nardwuar the Human Serviette. The album came out
in August and I don't think the video is much newer than that, but I figure your chances of catching it on television
are slim. That's why I'm here, to look out for you.
