'MythBusters' Beauty Kari Byron Talks New Series 'Head Rush'

by Maggie Furlong, posted Aug 23rd 2010 3:30PM
Kari Byron, 'Head Rush'We know and love Kari Byron from 'MythBusters,' and now she's taking her enthusiasm and curiosity about all things science to a new after-school show aimed at middle school-aged kids.

'Head Rush' takes all the best bits of researching and testing hypotheses from 'MB' and walks its viewers through the process step by step. Encouraging kids to follow along at home or in the classroom, the show is conveniently commercial-free for totally uninterrupted experimentation.

I caught up with Kari to hear more about her new show, getting interactive with viewers, juggling both shows with having a new baby and her own unlikely path to TV science expert hall of fame.

'MythBusters' Dish On New Season, Fears & Things That Hurt Their Brains (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Aug 16th 2010 8:00PM
Few shows make me gasp, laugh, gag and cheer -- sometimes all in one episode -- more than 'MythBusters' (Wednesdays, 9PM ET on Discovery Channel). And I don't just love it for that mishmash of emotions; I watch it so religiously because I learn something new from every episode.

The gang is back soon with new episodes full of busting myths and going above and beyond with their experiments, all in the name of science. But with so many myths already tackled, will they ever run out? Don't count on it.

So how do you prove or disprove cold feet? Well, you do what scares you the most. And what, after all these years, could make the cast's and crew's brains hurt? Adam Savage, Jamie Hyneman, Kari Byron, Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci give me the scoop.

The Show Girl Does Comic-Con: Dream Guest Stars, Twitter & More (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jul 28th 2010 9:00AM
Elizabeth Mitchell at Comic-Con I survived Comic-Con 2010, and I've got an amazing arsenal of TV star interviews to prove it.

We stuck to the important stuff: What's happening next on your favorite shows, who would the stars themselves love to have guest star and -- since it was the most tweeted about geek event of the year -- what they think about Twitter.

So which fellow 'Lost' alum would Elizabeth Mitchell love to have on 'V'? How did an alien lizard queen turn the sky red? Which former 'ER' star is begging to work with George Clooney again? And why are zombies so darn awesome? Take a look for some of my favorite moments from the Con.

Comic-Con TV Highlights: Interviews with the Stars of Your Favorite Shows (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jul 26th 2010 11:00PM
Nathan Fillion at Comic-Con 2010Comic-Con in San Diego was a whirlwind for TV fans, with panels from favorite returning shows like 'Castle,' 'V,' 'Dexter,' 'Eureka' and 'MythBusters,' to new buzzed-about zombie series 'The Walking Dead,' mysterious shows like 'The Event' and TV's newest unlikely superheroes from 'No Ordinary Family.'

I was there for it all, and I've got the highlights from the press rooms, where the stars were still basking in the instant gratification from fans. So what's it like being at the Con? Some say it's 'Inception'-like, while others seem afraid to even walk the floor. Then there are the diehards -- Frank Darabont, Nathan Fillion and Elizabeth Mitchell could all be called Comic-Con royalty -- who just can't get enough.

See it all right here, then read the rest of our panel and press room coverage. And here's a very special Comic-Con episode of The Show Girl where I have more highlights, including scoop on upcoming episodes, dream guest stars and tons of Twitter talk.

They Blinded Us ... With Science: TV's Greatest Science Guys

by Danny Gallagher, posted May 15th 2010 1:04PM
Don Herbert aka Mr. WizardScience was one of my least favorite subjects in school. The subject material didn't bore me. It actually enthralled me. It makes me wish nutrition class involved more random explosions and pyrotechnics, so I wouldn't have to buy pants in bulk (the actual size, not the amount).

It was the teachers behind that tall mesh of test tubes and beakers that made it so boring. I'm sure they meant well as educators, but as teachers, they had no sense of showmanship. They couldn't sustain anyone's attention for longer than five minutes and their voice inflections could actually make dogs wish they were deaf.

Thank God for television. If it wasn't for TV's vast array of science shows from old favorites like 'Mr. Wizard's World' to newer fare like G4's upcoming spinoff 'It's Efffing Science,' my knowledge on the subject wouldn't reach beyond "Photosynthesis has nothing to do with photos or synthesizers." These are the greatest scientific minds to ever worm their way through the wondrous cathode ray in your TV.

by Scott Harris, posted Apr 6th 2010 3:00PM
The last week has been filled with important cultural and religious holidays. Passover. Easter. April Fool's Day. But while we're all about observing holidays with the family and taking a moment out of our busy schedules to remember what's important in life, we're worried that this convergence of celebrations may have obscured one of the most important holidays of all: New TV DVD Release Tuesday.

Luckily, if you were too busy punking your Rabbi to get to the local mall, all is not lost, because we've been working around the clock to make sure that everyone gets a chance to buy the best of this week's new DVD releases. And at the top of our special post-Holiday list? Why, it's 'King of the Hill,' of course.

After much trial and error, the special effects duo proves this is indeed possible. Now we can die happy.

Mythbusters to test Star Trek mythology

by Allison Waldman, posted Dec 20th 2009 2:01PM

How cool is this? On Mythbusters, the guys are going to test the Captain Kirk Gorn Cannon. If you have no idea what that is, you -- my Star Trek friend -- are not a Trekkie (or a Trekker depending on which camp you follow). If you do know, you have to watch, and if you don't know but are curious, you still have to watch Mythbusters on Discovery, Monday, December 28 at 9 p.m.

Basically, the Mythbusters will take a great scene from Star Trek and bring it to life. In the season one episode, Captain Kirk is put on a barren planet and forced to battle the commander of an alien ship in one on one battle. Some super alien is manipulating the two into fighting with the fate of their ships on the line.
