NASCAR Wives coming to TLC

by Brad Trechak, posted Jan 6th 2009 12:02PM
NASCARTLC will begin airing yet another new reality show. This one will capitalize on the fame of NASCAR by following the lives of several wives of famous NASCAR drivers. Between this and the animated Jeff Foxworthy show, NASCAR would certainly be a household name if it weren't already.

It's interesting how they're trying to combine the male-skewing genre of NASCAR with the female-skewing genre of the "wives" reality-TV subculture. It could be seen as an attempt to get a certain type of wife to understand her husband a little better. Perhaps now they could go to NASCAR shows together and each recognize their own brand of celebrity.

While I don't follow it, I can understand the appeal of NASCAR. Not everybody can play hoops or football at a professional level. However, to drive in NASCAR you only need to be able to drive fast and make lots of turns (mostly left). I've seen a myriad of drivers on New Jersey highways that could qualify.

If you land an animated series about NASCAR at FOX, you might be Jeff Foxworthy

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 18th 2008 10:05AM
Jeff FoxworthyI guess they think he's FOX-worthy. Now to go along with his hit game show Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?, FOX has greenlit an animated series about a NASCAR family by and featuring the voice talent of Jeff Foxworthy. In fact, the same article goes on to report that they're developing a daily syndicated version of Fifth Grader also to be hosted by the redneck king. I could never really get into the show because too often the answer to the titular question is "No" and at this point it's just getting sad how stupid we're collectively getting.

As for the animated series, with the show set in the world of NASCAR, I worry that the premise is too narrow. But if anybody can turn a show about the redneck's sport of choice into a bona fide hit it would be the guy who helped turn the Blue Collar Comedy Tour into a national phenomenon. This guy gets the working class and they love him right back. I suspect he'll be gently poking fun at them much like his "You might be a redneck" jokes. If he goes too gentle, he can just call it King of the Track and be done with it.

Nielsen cable ratings for the week ending July 27

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 31st 2008 1:23PM
The CloserHere are the weekly cable ratings, by number of viewers.

While I'm really, really happy that Burn Notice grabbed the #6 slot this week, I'm a little bummed out that Mad Men didn't make the top 10. In fact, it didn't even make it in anywhere near the top 10, despite getting two million viewers for its season premiere. Still, that's better than the ratings for last season.

1. The Closer (TNT)
2. NASCAR Sprint Cup (ESPN)
3. Saving Grace (TNT)

6. Burn Notice (USA)
7. Monday Night RAW (USA)

Jon StewartHere are the weekly TV ratings, by number of viewers.

Sure, we can talk about how this year's Oscars were the worst-rated in TV history, but its still came in at #1 for the week, knocking American Idol from the top slot. It also got the #5 slot with their red carpet special and the #13 slot with the Barbara Walters special. Of course, the folks at FOX aren't that worried: it still took the next three slots, and hey, the Oscars won't be on next week.
