Natalie Portman's 'Black Swan' Dance Double Continues to Speak Out (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 15th 2011 12:40PM
Sarah Lane on 'Good Morning America'Natalie Portman drew raves for dancing like a professional ballerina in 'Black Swan.' If it looked impossible, that's because it was, according to what Sarah Lane, Portman's dance double, said on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM on ABC). Lane expanded on her previous statements that she actually performed the more difficult shots in the film, which were credited to Portman.

Although Lane made clear she was never told she would get credit for specific scenes, she accused director Darren Aronofsky of trying to create an exaggerated image of Portman's dancing work. "They were trying to create this, you know, image, you know, this façade, really, that Natalie had done something extraordinary," she said. "Something that is pretty much impossible."

About to take the stage to host the 2011 'Film Independent Spirit Awards' (Sat., 10PM ET on IFC), Joel McHale caught his arm between a giant rock and his makeup table. Banksy to the rescue! But the mystery artist only sprayed Bart Simpson graffiti on the rock, and then revealed himself to be... Alex Trebek?

Later in the proceedings, Eva Mendes said she and Paul Rudd intended to do a funny bit that involved groping, but the show was running behind schedule. Rudd fondled Mendes' breast anyway. And as Mendes announced the Best Screenplay winner, Rosario Dawson grabbed Rudd's crotch. What a, uh, touching moment. Natalie Portman Was Injured on Her New Film -- and Swapped Her Trailer for a Doctor (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Nov 23rd 2010 3:01AM
Natalie Portman Was Injured on Her New Film -- and Swapped Her Trailer for a DoctorActress Natalie Portman started dancing lessons at age four. Still, she wasn't quite ready for her performance in the upcoming film 'Black Swan.' In the film, Natalie and fellow actress Mila Kunis play rival ballet dancers. But even after undergoing ballet training for six months -- for five hours every day -- Portman still got injured.

On 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) Natalie described her injury to David Letterman -- and explained what she had to do to get medical treatment. Portman was hurt while being lifted in the air by one of her dancing partners. The actress "dislocated a rib -- it sort of went under another one." "Whoa," Letterman said.

Natalie then asked the producer if he could get a medic to give her "an ice-pack or an Advil or something." But as it turned out, the film was so low-budget that they didn't actually have a medic. Whoops.

'Top Chef': Natalie Portman Drops by as Guest Judge

by Donald Deane, posted Oct 29th 2009 10:49AM
Natalie Portman guested on this week's 'Top Chef: Las Vegas' and threw the remaining contestants a curveball with her vegetarian dietary requirements. The final seven chefs were prepared to create a reimagined TV dinner using a variety of meat at Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak restaurant, but were instead asked to prepare a dish using nothing but veggies.

In this clip, diners react during the elimination challenge to Chef Michael Voltaggio's asparagus salad, Japanese tomato sashimi and banana polenta. Although Voltaggio wasn't the winner of the challenge, diners responded favorably to his unusual pairing of polenta with banana.

Just another month and a half until Top Chef returns

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 8th 2009 7:01PM
Top Chef Las VegasTop Chef Masters returns to Bravo tonight (after a week off), but some fans aren't into this more "professional" edition of the reality show and are waiting patiently (or maybe not too patiently) for the "real" Top Chef to return. You only have about six more weeks to wait.

Top Chef Las Vegas will premiere on August 26. According to the press release, we're going to see a lot of stars in this season too (only not as contestants, of course), including Penn & Teller, Todd English, Natalie Portman, Wolfgang Puck, Charlie Palmer, Daniel Bouland, and Nigella Lawson. Padma Lakshmi will be back as host, along with judges Tom Colicchio, Gail Simmons, and Toby Young (who a lot of fans don't seem to like that much, at least in his role here).

This could be a very fun season, considering what Las Vegas is like (as famous now for its restaurants as its gambling).

We hope this countdown makes you feel just as SNL-y in your digital shorts as when you first saw the videos, and if not, that's okay too. We're glad you're here anyway.

Of course, the rule is that they must have been prefaced by the "An SNL Digital Short" card to qualify. We know how much you love "Virgania Horsen's Hot Air Balloon Rides," but it's not happening. Sorry.
