'The Nate Berkus Show' Canceled, To End After This Season

'The Nate Berkus Show' has been canceled. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the current season, its second, will be the last for the daytime lifestyle show."I'm incredibly proud of my hard working and talented staff, and proud of the show we were able to produce every day," Berkus said in a statement.
The daytime talk show, somewhat of a spin-off from 'The Oprah Winfrey Show, is the lowest rated talk show on air right now. During the November sweeps period, it averaged about 1.4 million viewers.

The news that 'All My Children' was canceled Thursday had not yet hit when a pre-recorded 'Erica Kane' makeover segment aired on 'The Nate Berkus Show' (weekdays, syndicated). So TV watchers were treated to the awkward spectacle of watching three 'All My Children' fans being made-over to look like a much beloved, but recently canceled soap character. David Zyla, the show's stylist, was there, as was special guest Susan Lucci, who surprised the ladies on set.One fan broke down and cried upon meeting Lucci, who has been on a non-stop media tour lately, insisting that she thought the show had a bright future. If Lucci knew the news about 'AMC's' cancellation, she didn't show it, handling herself with typical grace and class. She complemented the women on their new looks and laughed with them. "I hope you all feel really good," said Lucci. "You look fantastic."

Kelly Ripa is prepping a return to primetime with a new series, 'Port Love.' Ripa, host of 'Live With Regis and Kelly,' and husband Mark Consuelos will co-write and executive-produce the project. Consuelos will star, with Ripa set for a recurring role. According to Deadline Hollywood, the project, a single camera workplace comedy, follows the cast and crew of a once-popular TV show who have quite a lot of backstage drama.

• Carol Mendelsohn has sold a new crime drama to CBS. The 'CSI' showrunner's new project adapts Thomas Perry's Jane Whitefield suspense novels. The character acts as a one-person witness protection program. [Reuters]
• 'Glee' star Mark Salling has released the first video from his debut album. The song, 'Illusions,' is off Salling's album, 'Pipe Dreams,' out Oct. 25. [Entertainment Weekly]
• Ellen DeGeneres is expanding her TV empire. The daytime talk show host as signed a new deal with Warner Bros. that will see her expand her production deal across various WB divisions. As a result, DeGeneres' company, A Very Good Production, will develop and produce network programs, cable shows, reality programming and syndicated shows. [Deadline Hollywood]
• Angela Lansbury has spoken out about her 'Murder, She Wrote' co-star Tom Bosley. "He was just a terrific person to work with," Lansbury said. "He was an actor's actor. He felt that the [happier] the atmosphere on the set was, the more we would get done." [TV Guide]

Nate Berkus may have started out as Oprah Winfrey's interior design guru, but as the host of his new talk show (syndicated, daily), he's aiming for to do more than help viewers redecorate their bedrooms. He wants to help them make over their lives."Living well encompasses a lot," he told TV Squad in an interview last week. 'The Nate Berkus Show' is "not just about design, but it's about everything that goes on in the home."
That can encompass many topics, from entertaining tips to planning a budget vacation. But Berkus also hopes his show will address issues, Oprah-style, that affect his audience, like gay bullying.
He spoke to us about why he's spoken out about bullying, what's coming up on the show and his dream segment.

Oprah Winfrey's empire grows by one more today, with the premiere of 'The Nate Berkus Show' (weekdays, syndicated). The 38-year-old interior designer follows in the footsteps of Oprah proteges Phil McGraw, Dr. Mehmet Oz and Rachael Ray. Berkus' daily talk show will mix design segments and celebrity guests like Dolly Parton and Elizabeth Edwards. It "goes beyond design," Berkus told USA Today. "The show is about lifestyle. It's about living well."
In today's premiere episode, Berkus surprises a single mom with a kitchen makeover and reveals an Instant Design Studio, which uses 3-D technology to create virtual spaces.

'Oprah Winfrey' regular and popular design expert Nate Berkus, a bestselling author and radio host with his own home line on Home Shopping Network and at Linens 'n Things, has his own syndicated show coming up this fall (co-produced by Winfrey's Harpo Prods. and Sony Pictures TV) and Winfrey took some tine on Tuesday's edition of 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' (weekdays, syndicated) to wish him good luck.She also presented him with a handmade "coffee table book" put together by the 'Oprah Show' staff; each member of the staff wrote a special note expressing "what you mean to us." it was a touching tribute, and brought a tear to Berkus' eye. 'The Nate Berkus Show' begins September 13.

'The Nate Berkus Show' Eyes Fall Premiere

Following a mini-pick-up hiccup, 'The Nate Berkus Show' will officially see the light of day this fall.According to the Hollywood Reporter, Berkus' show was just cleared on 10 NBC owned-and-operated stations, and will air in major cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia.
Distributed by Sony Pictures Television, 'The Nate Berkus Show' will be a daily, mutli-faceted series that covers topics ranging from entertainment to daily lifestyle tips.

Oprah often gives away cool things for those in her studio audience. It seems her featured guests don't do too badly either. "... And you get a show! And you get a show!"
Harpo Productions has announced plans for a new syndicated talk show featuring Nate Berkus, interior designer and featured regular on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show.' The as yet to be titled show is slated for 2010 and would be the second collaboration between Harpo Productions and its distributor, Sony Pictures Television. Their first collaboration, 'The Dr. Oz Show,' premiered this year and is proof that Oprah knows how to cultivate and develop new daytime talk show stars.
Berkus will join Dr. Phil, Rachael Ray and Dr. Oz in the "I was on Oprah, now I have my own show" club.
BBC America brings four news shows stateside

BBC America will add four new programs to its roster this January. The U.K. shows have been running for awhile overseas, but will be making their U.S. debuts in 2007. The line-up includes:
Soundproof, an urban thriller that puts a twist on your run-of-the-mill whodunit by bringing deaf and hearing actors together. Get excited, Gallaudet students. We're finally going to have a partially deaf heartthrob on the scene in the form of happening Brit Joseph Mawle.
