Stephen Colbert Thanks LeBron James for Being So Classy and Modest (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jun 14th 2011 8:35AM
Stephen Colbert vs. LeBron JamesNBA star Lebron James came in for some withering sarcasm on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central).

Talking about how LeBron and "America's Sweetheart Team," the Miami Heat, had fallen to the Dallas Mavericks in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, Stephen Colbert mocked the grandiose way in which LeBron opened the season and the petulant way he ended it.

Casting his eye over what he referred to as "the humble beginnings" of the season, when the ending of LeBron's free agent saga was the subject of a live one-hour TV "event" on ESPN, Colbert showed footage of LeBron and his teammates Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade rising heroically onto a stage via forklift amid a ton of smoke and spotlights.

Then Colbert showed us LeBron in defeat, saying "of course, [he] handled it with class," before running a clip of LeBron speaking at the post-Finals press conference, in which he was distinctly less than gracious about his critics.

Mike Tyson Breaks Down Bad NBA Tattoo Decisions on Kimmel's 'Game Night' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 1st 2011 12:01AM
Mike Tyson, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night'In the lead-up to Game One of the NBA Finals, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night' (Tue., 8PM ET on ABC) featured a new segment that explores the world of tattoos in professional basketball. Who better to look at athletes with garish tattoos than Mike Tyson?

Tyson famously got a tribal design on the left side of his face back in 2003. Of late, he's been showing a comedic side, and he was positively giddy in the role of host. 'Tattoo Time With Mike Tyson' even had an intro segment, with Tyson dancing wildly.

He said Chris Anderson looked like a "a psychadelic turkey or something," while comparing Marquis Daniels to MapQuest for his tat of Florida on his back. "This guy would be wonderful to have around if you get lost in Fort Lauderdale."

The LA Lakers Are Very Concerned About Their Hair -- and Their GroinsThe Los Angeles Lakers are now your 2010 World Champions. What will they do next? Will all the players stay on the team? Will coach Phil Jackson return next year? Will they manage to 'three-peat'?

Strangely enough, when the Lakers appeared on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live,' (weeknights, 12:05AM ET on ABC), they didn't seem all that focused on these questions. Rather, they discussed guard Sasha Vujacic's obsession with making sure that his hair looks awesome. Vujacic was caught primping on camera in a clip that host Jimmy Kimmel shared. The clip got plenty of laughter from the team. Then, the conversation moved on to groins -- and testicles.

Danny DeVito Likes Drinking, Basketball ... and Pot (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jun 17th 2010 11:00PM
Danny DeVito Likes Drinking, Basketball ... and PotWhat do guys like? Well, according to actor Danny DeVito, they enjoy "basketball," "gore," they like to "drink a lot" -- and then they enjoy marijuana. Yeah. That sounds about right, more or less.

On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night' (Thu., 8PM ET on ABC), DeVito discusses these burning issues. He points out that in November, the state of California may end up legalizing "something." (Hint: it's pot.) And DeVito seems pretty excited by the possibility of this.

But host Jimmy Kimmel chooses to believe that Danny is excited by the possibility of legalizing gay marriage. So he gets down on one knee and proposes to DeVito. ... Oh, Jimmy. You and Danny DeVito -- it's just never going to happen. You're just going to have to deal with that fact and move on.

A Busboy Defeats the NBA on 'Jimmy Kimmel' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jun 15th 2010 9:40PM
A Busboy Defeats the NBA on 'Jimmy Kimmel'Busboy Ricardo Reyes is the 'Pop-a-Shot' master. He has defeated all challengers at the mini-basketball game, and his challengers have included NBA All-Stars Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. (You can see his victories here for yourself.)

Jimmy Kimmel and his staff discovered 'Pop-a-Shot' prodigy Reyes in a local bar, and brought him on the show. In addition to beating LeBron and Kobe at the game, Reyes has also beaten Charles Barkley and Carmelo Anthony. And so, what reward does Reyes get for his mini-basketball dominance?

Why, a new car, of course! On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night' (Tue., 8PM ET on ABC), Kimmel awards the unsuspecting Ricardo with a brand new Ford Mustang. And then, Reyes drives off into the sunset, the undefeated champion of 'Pop-a-Shot.' Perhaps one day he will return -- if his title ever needs defending. Until then, Mr. Reyes, we bid you adiós.

Jimmy Kimmel Shatters a Basketball Backboard (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jun 13th 2010 9:35PM
Jimmy Kimmel Shatters a Basketball BackboardIt is the dream of every red-blooded male to smash a basketball backboard in his lifetime. Or at least, that's the dream of Jimmy Kimmel -- and he counts as a red-blooded male, right?

On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night,' (Sun., 7PM ET on ABC), the host lives out his hoop dreams by shattering a plexiglass backboard. By doing this, he joins the ranks of such famed b-ball players as Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal. Awesome job, Jimmy Kimmel, way to go!

But sadly, Kimmel seems to have gotten a little help in his quest. For one thing, the basketball hoop looks like it's about five feet tall -- not the required ten feet. And not that we're doubting Jimmy's athletic prowess or anything, but the backboard breaks suspiciously easily ... almost as if it had been specially altered or something.

Kobe Bryant Is Defeated by a Busboy in BasketballLos Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant shows up on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night' (Thu., 8PM ET on ABC). Kobe tries to compete at what he's best at ... basketball. And then he loses to a busboy.

Though most people will agree that Kobe is one of the greatest NBA players of all time, he can't match the awesome skills of busboy Ricardo Reyes. The writing team of the 'Kimmel' show discovered Ricardo at a local bar, and learned that he is fantastically amazing at the mini-basketball game of 'Pop-a-Shot.' So now, Reyes takes on former MVP Bryant to discover who is the true champion.

And ... Kobe loses. Actually, Kobe gets destroyed. Ricardo beats him by the score of 82 to 58. Total dominance!

'Jimmy Kimmel' Quizzes NBA Stars About 'Sex and the City'It's NBA Finals time, and all during the playoffs, Jimmy Kimmel is kicking things off early with a live broadcast before the games. On the latest episode of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night' (Tue., 8PM ET on ABC), Kimmel sends his sidekick Guillermo to talk with the players about the most important thing ever. ... And what is the most important thing ever, you ask? Why, it's the movie 'Sex and the City 2,' of course.

Guillermo interrogates the confused players about their knowledge of Samantha, Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda. He also helpfully shares some information about the movie with them: for instance, the fact that Samantha is "the slutty one." Basketball stars such as Kevin Garnett and Derek Fisher seem a little startled by the whole thing, but they do their best to play along.

Nielsen ratings for the week ending June 22

by Bob Sassone, posted Jun 25th 2008 6:40PM

Morgan, Osbourne, Hasselhoff

Here are the weekly TV ratings, by number of viewers.

A little behind the scenes info about the making of this post. When I started to type the #16 entry, my eye drifted to the #17 entry and I actually started to type Are You Smarter Than The Bachelorette? Which got me thinking that we could probably create other TV shows from this list, if the networks are looking for new ideas. How about America's Got Bones? Two and Half 60 Million? CSI: So You Think You Can Dance?

1. NBA Finals - Game 6 (ABC)
2. America's Got Talent (NBC)

So You Think You Can Dance

Here are the weekly TV ratings, by number of viewers.

Summer is a funny time for TV ratings. You're not quite sure what's going to be in the mix, just that's it's going to be a mix of new shows and repeats. This isn't a big surprise, but it which repeats that make the list. CBS seems to be dominating the summer, with repeats of CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Two and a Half Men, Without a Trace, Criminal Minds, Rules of Engagement, and 60 Minutes taking up many spots in the top 20. The top show with new episodes is also a CBS show, Million Dollar Password.

1. NBA Finals - Game 5 (ABC)
2. NBA Finals - Game 3 (ABC)
3. NBA Finals - Game 4 (ABC)

Reege

Here are the weekly TV ratings, by number of viewers.

While ABC is probably happy with the NBA Finals games (predictably) grabbing the top slots, CBS has to be happy with the way two of their new shows fared. Million Dollar Password was number 6 this week (number three last week) and the debut of Swingtown hit number 12. Actually, CBS has to be happy in general, as they grabbed 13 of the top 20 shows, though I'm kinda surprised that 60 Minutes continues to do so well in the off season, considering the episodes are all repeat segments.

1. NBA Finals - Game 1 (ABC)
2. NBA Finals - Game 2 (ABC)
